@@coke-cinelle to be fair, I'd rather the metallic and glow ones, but some people collect the whole set. They also don't have a HUGE selection of the retro toys line still

Number 6 is a Glow Worm. My daughter had 1 when she was younger. Its a soft cuddly toy that's a night light. The calendar was doing really well until the repeats started appearing. Definitely a let down for sure.
You could also get little pocket sized Glow Worms. I remember us bringing them in to school when I was in primary 4 (I’m now 47! 😂). I’ve now got the song from the Glow Friends advert stuck in my head. How do I remember that but I can’t remember what I did last week? 😂
i had one too! although since it was sitting around for 20 years the battery corroded and it turned super super gross and started shaking around like it was having a seizure 😮
I never had real transformers, but I did have the McDonald's transformer toys that would morph from like a hamburger or fries into a character. I loved those toys!
Transformers IS retro, the original movie/series was released in the Mid 80's. I was like screaming at my screen "THEY ARE RETRO!!!" And yes they should, Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee are the duo, and you can't have them without Megatron either AHHHH
I got a Disney Funko advent calendar few years ago and at least with the repeat characters in that one they all had different poses or outfits, not just a straight recolor.
Cherry, bless your heart, a bunch of these are 80s early 90s. Transformers are 80s. That one pink thing you didn’t recognize is a Popple from the 80s. They fold into themselves like a ball, loved mine, might still have it. Funny enough you might be to young rather than showing your age. 😍💕💖
id still be upset like theyre literally the same characters just glow in the dark?? make them different characters that are glow in the dark or even not glow in the dark. idk thats just me. its like getting blind boxes but getting duplicates
That is cool, but they could have made the first one glow in the dark instead of doing duplicates or put the characters in different poses. Something to make it less of a let down. They still missed out on lots of franchises and toys that would have fit into this calendar by having those duplicates.
Number 13 is a Popple! 🙌🏻 I’m a child of the 80’s and I think you have to be ‘old’ to know a lot of these like the Popple, My Pet Monster and the Glo Worms 😆
Spent SO many hours with my Lite-Brite. The My Little Pony Salon was my top Christmas gift one year. Transformers was a favorite after school cartoon, and Bumblebee was originally a VW Bug.
I loved this calendar except for the end where it truly did feel like a cop-out to have so many duplicates that just look slightly different from each other. There were just so many other options they could have gone with. Even under the Hasbro umbrella. (Though personally I do like one of the glow-worms because I had one as a child.)
Yes! Came here to say this!! Several years ago my husband got a bunch of the Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation mini Funkos from the store he works at. I screwed eyelets in their heads and gave them to my family gifts. They loved them!
Transformers came out in 1984. I grew up playing with them and watching them. The newer movies and whatnot are just capitalizing on the retro love for them from late Gen X and early millennials.
100% agree, Funko calendars in recent years just feel like a money grab, they always have repeats. Like you said, especially in the HP ones, and their pretty expensive so such a cop out putting repeats in ☹️ But I love the idea of turning the duplicates into earrings 😊
I had almost all of these! Day 6 is a glow worm, they're for babies. They give off a warm glow light and plays lullaby music. I loved mine and my daughters had one to ❤ Yea I feel bad for a kid that gets this, all the repeats is so lame
I remember ALL of these… I’m American and I grew up in the 80’s lol - so that might be why you don’t recognize a lot of them (and, YES, Transformers are retro 😂). Also, it’s pretty common for POPs to have “chase” versions, which are slightly different colors of the same character. It’s disappointing, but it’s in line with the brand (and might match the larger versions of the characters already in existence). Love this series, by the way… so fun!
I agree, about the chase ones, I think they could have saved a unique one for the last day, though. But iirc the order varies between each (or it has with previous calendars, as I was opening one at the same time as a friend and we got different ones on most of the days, but ultimately they were all the same ones), so it would be hard to do that.
TROUBLE!! This was one of my favorites!! The red guy was the peg you used to go around the board. You would press the plastic dome he's holding to "roll" the dice and whoever gets to the middle of the board first wins ands yells TROUBLE! haha....i was easily entertained 😅
Transformers definitely retro my brother had them he’s in his 40’s and I had a glow worm, you squeezed them and their face lit up, I’m also in my 40’s. Before your time, you young thing!
I actually got the Marvel funko advent calendar a couple years ago because of you. I was disappointed they gave doubles of some characters. The doubles either had glitter or glow added but I would have preferred them giving different characters. I was very happy to get some type of marvel collectibles in advent form though. I hope they make another with newer characters and no doubles.
Most of these toys were originated in the 80s with the exception of a few that were much older and that’s why you don’t recognize them all, the ones you recognize were either re-released or never stopped being released. I do agree with you with the repeats, I think that was uncalled for and ridiculous. The game Trouble is a board game by Milton Bradley in 1965, the worm was Glo worm that was originated in 1982, it was a plush toy that had a plastic head that would light up. It was a toy special for kids to go to sleep with and have a night light in their arms. The first my little pony was in 1983. Play-Doh was originally a wallpaper cleaner the reformulated it as an educational toy in the mid 50s. The transformers were from 1984 so yes I would consider them retro.🤣 The cute little pink guy is called a Popple, originated in 1986 from Mattel. They were stuffed animals with tails and they would transform into a ball. Super cute! Light Brite was originated in 1967. I do remember them having to remake them because the lightbulb that was inside would get burning 🔥 hot‼️ George Lerner invented Mr. Potato Head in 1949. Hasbro then distributed them in 1952. It was the first toy advertised on television and has stayed in production since. The original toy cost $0.98. The kit contained hands, feet, ears, two mouths, two pairs of eyes, four noses, three hats, eyeglasses, a pipe, and eight felt pieces resembling facial hair. The original toy did not include a potato you had to use your own. A Mrs. Potato Head appeared in 1953, followed by brother Spud, sister Yam, various pets, and a car and trailer. Hasbro promoted the happy family in LIFE magazine. A plastic potato appeared in 1964. I really enjoyed researching all of these I especially did not know that about Play-Doh and Lite Brite.
@@simoneansell867 I think Ludo and Frustration are quite similar. You have to get all round the board and then into the safe zone. Sorry is quite similar as well I think
Glow Worms were in the show Glow Friends. My Pet Monster was part of the start of the "kids take over" movement where they could now select their own entertainment and toys made more for them. Think early days of Nickelodeon with You Can't Do That On Television, candy made to look like slime, etc. My Little Ponies have cutie marks or their tush. Transformers debuted as a cartoon in 1984. 13 is a Popple. They fold up into a pouch on their backs and kids could use the plush as a pillow. It was a cute show. To be fair, you got the leader of the Autobots, the most famous Autobot, and a Decepticon, so now you can make your own little Transformers play! I don't get that stoked about shiny variants, either 🤷🏼♀️
I don't know about later Glow worms but the originals only lit up if you squeezed them and they were so stiff and hard to squeeze that little kids weren't strong enough to make them light up. Heck, I was an adult and even I couldn't make my daughter's worm light up! A lot of the first Glow Worms ended up at Goodwill stores or Salvation Army stores.

#4 is related to the game of Trouble. The character is a game piece. So glad you recognized the game of Operation character after not recognizing him on the cover.
I’m a child of the 80s and these were all toys I had growing up. Since then, some of these franchises have had nostalgic resurgences so younger folks also had them growing up. This was really cool until all the duplicates.
I recognized everything but the monster. Yes, I'm old!lol. The glow worm was my favorite toy as a baby/toddler. Popples were the best!! They turned into a fuzzy ball (look them up they were the best!!❤).
Well how nostalgic…… monkeys in a barrel ? LITE BRITE?!? The little baby worm doll?! (Nightlight for kids) Goodness and the trouble dude is a game piece we would use when playing the game trouble !! And Furby!? My goodness I loved ALL OF these as a child
The grub thing is a glo-worm. They were plushy except for the face which would glow when you squeezed them, like a night light. I had one when I was little
I think Trouble was called Frustration for us as kids. You'd pop the bit in the middle that contained dice. Oo also Transformers were released in the 80s 😮 we are old! 😂
I tell our Furby story all the time - we actually loved them but my daughter's one day started sneezing over and over, then it said Worried. Then it DIED. We tried everything but it was just - dead. Traumatic!
The Amazon title says it's the Funko Hasbro Retro Toy Advent Calendar: #6 - a glowworm from the cartoon in the 1980s, #4 is probably a playing piece from the board game called Trouble, #11-12 are both Transformers which are from the 1980s cartoon. So many reviews are saying that the duplicates are making them really mad. Cute calendar otherwise.
Very much retro for ‘80’s North American kids! Every one of them should recognize all of these and either had them all or their friends or kids they babysat had them all! The last row was a let down but was probably meant to be the chase versions of the original versions found earlier which is typical of Funko. Not really what I would want in an advent calendar but predictable when it comes to Funko.😊
Yesss, we did have a Furby! In fact, we had two! One day we went on a trip and we put the Furbies into the trunk of our car. Right at the bottom, below all of our suitcases and stuff. Very soon they started babbling to each other. Which was rather disturbing after a while and we couldn't reach them without stopping the car at a gass station and unpacking the whole trunk! 😂
The lil worm thing is a Glow Worm. The red thing is a play piece from the Trouble board game. The colorful one you thought looked like a bunny was a Popple!! You turned it inside out and it turned into a ball!! OMG I had ALL of these!!
Oh I'd give my soul for a whole transformers Funko advent, it's totally not for everyone and not everyone will vibe or remember growing with it, but it is a childhood in its purest
That last row was such a cop-out. I agree there were so many opportunities they missed.
Yes imagine, last week before christmas and every day you get a duplicate it would make me so mad
They are chase variants, hence the metallic and i would bet the gloworm is a glow in the dark. It's a common trope of funko.

I’m Canadian and I recognize all of them. Had so many of them as a child.
I'm 50 and played with every one of these toys!!
Agree there were SO many missed opportunities with the duplicates
I would love to see more hasbro games figures like a Simon, connect 4 , sorry or even weapons from clue.
Transformers are indeed retro 😄 they’ve been around since 1984. 🖤
The weird grub thing is a glow worm! Literally a glow in the dark bug!
6 is a glow warm!! You would but batteries in it the head would light up! I had two of them. They were a really sweet toy !!
I loved Lite Brite as a kid. They would give you templates to put on the screen. Then there are clear pegs to put on the template then the lights shine thru the pegs.
The worm is a glowworm. The pink one was a popple, which was my favorite toy growing up :)
No.13 is a Popple another 80s toy. Transformers started in the 80s so yeah definitely retro lol
What a fun series! Glad this got recommended to me. Cant wait to binge your previous years❤
The last row is glow in the dark additions , think aimed at collectors who are massive collectors 😊😊😊
That makes sense but also seems like a cop out. They should have done better.
@@eternalbookwyrm9481 oh absolutely, should of been completely different ones or limited edition id be anoyed of that was the callanders I really wanted and paid money for
#4 is related to the game of Trouble. The character is a game piece. So glad you recognized the game of Operation character after not recognizing him on the cover.
Door 24 could've had a Santa-themed Monopoly Man
I’m a child of the 80s and these were all toys I had growing up. Since then, some of these franchises have had nostalgic resurgences so younger folks also had them growing up. This was really cool until all the duplicates.
I don’t mind the transformers because they were at least different 😂 the “metallic” duplicates were crazy
Somebody said they're glow in the dark. Not sure if that's accurate.
The baby is a glow worm! A "baby doll" that lit up when you squeezed the belly! ❤
Your videos are getting me through my exams😊
I recognized everything but the monster. Yes, I'm old!lol. The glow worm was my favorite toy as a baby/toddler. Popples were the best!! They turned into a fuzzy ball (look them up they were the best!!❤).
I'm sorry you felt disappointed... and I completely agree: the idea for this advent calendar had a lot of potential that never came to fruition.
Glow worm Cherry. My daughter had all of them
And there was smaller ones called glow friends
Aw the “grub” is a glo worm! I had one as a toddler, and it was like my favorite toy.
Luv the Glo Worms and the Popple!!
The grub thing is a glo-worm. They were plushy except for the face which would glow when you squeezed them, like a night light. I had one when I was little
Number 4 is I think the American version of Frustration.
Correct! (American here that has the Trouble game and it looks similar to the Frustration game)
Not sure what the Frustration game is, but #4 is the Trouble game here in the U.S.
No it was called trouble. Frustration was a different game 😊
Yes definitely Trouble. The popper for the dice was very satisfying to push.
I think Trouble was called Frustration for us as kids. You'd pop the bit in the middle that contained dice. Oo also Transformers were released in the 80s 😮 we are old! 😂
I was born in 1990 I feel your pain about being called “vintage” lol
I remember all of these, The little baby “worm” is called a Glow Worm! I had a green one!
In Was born in 1975, so think how I feel!!! 😂😵xx
I was born in 90 too 😅
@@michellescott1211that’s the year my dad graduated high school lol! We’re all vintage and AWESOME! ❤️
41 here. 👋 😂
Impatiently waiting for the next one 😊 these advent calendar videos have become a real Christmas tradition for me and they bring so much joy ❤
I tell our Furby story all the time - we actually loved them but my daughter's one day started sneezing over and over, then it said Worried. Then it DIED. We tried everything but it was just - dead. Traumatic!
😂
Glow worm!! It's basically a baby night light that babies can sleep with for comfort. It very slightly glows!
Transformers, Glow Worm, Mr. Potato Head, Stretch Armstrong...These are GenX toys ❤
This box is my childhood! all of these are core 80's toys.
I would say this is very 80’s and a few 90’s toys - literally all my fav toys as a child ❤
glow worms was soo popular when i was young in early 80s
It's a glo worm you pressed the tummy and it lite up. Love you videos 😊
This takes me back to my childhood. 😅 I'm 49. All these are fun
Trouble looks like frustration for us brits.
The last one is a gloworm, it’s a babies toy technically and it lights up when you hug it. Very retro.
Just what i needed to distract me from the insanity known as my country's election! Pray for us! 😰
I'm obsessed with the little Glo Worm! 😭
Cherry you need to show them how its done and create a lost cauldron advent 💯
Oh I'd give my soul for a whole transformers Funko advent, it's totally not for everyone and not everyone will vibe or remember growing with it, but it is a childhood in its purest
