- Everyone's favorite is back!! Which is strange, because i still haven't heard a cover, as in instrumental cover, of this song yet. I've heard an 8 bit version, and a Mother 3 Instrument version though.

I know what it feels like...I tried beating Spyro 2 on our old PS2 without a memory card and I got stuck on the trolley part, so eventually I gave up.

@@LilXancheX I also love that game, its from my childhood :). Anyway: In 2001 there were many games that were much more advanced. Even in the early 90s for example there were lot of better games, for example the Super Mario series.

Jelly Fields Zone Bad Future
Really does remind me of a mix of Palmtree Panic and Quartz Quadrant maybe. Sonic CD was definitely an inspiration for this soundtrack

Very emotional for a game that's about Spongebob acquiring a birthday gift for Patrick.
It's a game about a yellow sponge I used to play alot as a kid on the ps1 but this moment of the game and song reminds me a bit of entering adulthood.
The first level of the game being happy go lucky like a viewpoint of a child but seeing it years later and you start to see the issue of some things you liked as a kid
That's also the kind of feeling that I get from this too. This song makes me think about how I took my younger years for granted and didn't think they were anything special, or that growing up is what I wanted to do. Now all of those years are gone, and all that's left is the worse, longest part of anyone's life, where I now see things as what they actually are, instead of what kids see.
Really dumb idea coming through, but do you think Industrial Jelly Fields could be the result of SB going back in time and messing something up in the past?
It seems to be the same Jelly Fields from the first level, but more polluted and dystopian. Oil comes from fossils, and fossils come from skeletons. So maybe defeating Parasitic Worm somehow killed the whale, and that's why there's a plethora of oil in Bikini Bottom now.
Heh, look at me, trying to unironically theorize about a friggin' Spongebob game that came out two decades ago...
I actually really like this theory. That would be a neat background detail for the level but I'm sure the developers didn't put that much thought into it as they really didn't care a lot about Spongebob anyways. There is literally a folder named _"New Sbsp like we care"_ that was found in the development archives for this game among other things like crude drawings of the characters doing naughty things. This was just another licensed game for them to pump out.
This actually reminds me of the game Sonic CD since that game has time travel as a part of its gameplay. You are able to travel to the past and if you destroy robot generators you can make a good future. However, if that is neglected then a bad future is made where the landscape becomes bleak and polluted much like the Industrial Fields of this game.

Why is the music this good for a spongebob game for the ps1?
I think that has to do with the composer, Matthew Simmonds aka 4mat, having already been experienced in creating music by getting his start from being a part of the 90s demoscene for the Amiga computer systems. He would then take his skills to make music for officially released Amiga games and eventually on to other systems.
Overall, I do think this is the best track in the game. It certainly doesn’t sound like something for a Spongebob game. It has a more somber tone to it but I think that’s appropriate given that it plays in levels in the final world. It’s like it's indicating that this is close to the end of Spongebob’s journey.

For me, this song is really evocative of the good old days I spent with my brother trying to beat the game in a single session, as we never owned a memory card. It would take us an entire afternoon for us to reach this point in the game. By the time we did, the evening sun would start to set, signaling the end of the day and the final chapter of the journey. Looking back, the game itself is pretty generic, but this song and soundtrack still elevated the experience for me
And the pain of only having three continues too, then it’s back to the start of the game… not having a memory cards is like playing the hardcore version of the game
Whatever you receive as a kid is welcome, excellent, appreciated and entertaining.
Though I very much like the entire soundtrack to this game, this song is the one that stood out to me even as I was a kid playing it, and stands out to me now as I remember it.

I come back to this game's OST every so often and I always come to the same conclusion. This is the best track in the game for me. Soothing, relaxing and very depressing.

What's funny is how Man Ray was featured in the intro but only appeared as a regular enemy here (I don't think he appeared at all in the GBA version), meanwhile The Flying Dutchman, not featured in the intro, is a boss in both versions.
I wish Man Ray was the final boss with his own little plot (being the one to break Mermaid Man's TV just to mess with him :p) or at least a mini boss in Man Ray's Lair, but oh well.
He was probably gonna be replaced by the unused buff shark enemies at some point, maybe, cuz it's weird that there's multiple man rays and there's a stage for him but he isn't a boss, so at some point he had to be planned as one...
It's kind of insulting Man Ray are weak clones, but it could have been fixed, if the plot was about the real Man Ray was just using his clones as minions, and he is the last powerful boss.
Your idea for the story would be definitely more interesting along with some dialogue lines, and the Dogfish is just a forgetable character.

I don't know if I permit to say this, but if you want to look at any song that has similar chord progression, you can search N Flying - Good Night (it's a kpop song, btw). For me, the vibe is kind of similar with this song, too. But still, I still prefer this song because of the nostalgia that this song gives so much...

This is the playstation version, the gba version isn't quite as good sounding
It's a bit surprising, isn't it? This good composition (along with many others in this game) was made for a *SpongeBob* game of all things... Also, nah, this isn't the GBA version. That version messed up these songs. In the case of this song, they removed the intro for whatever reason, which is important in the PlayStation version as it's what gradually introduces the sad feeling.
The GBA version sounds awful. This doesn't.
