This was the first time I've ever seen two players hugging each other after the match. Very rare in table tennis. Normally they only shake hands for a millisecond, which looks really aloof and impersonal. Nice to see two players who really respect each other as two men with the same passion for the sport...

Very theatrical and cool to see the US open on a channel I subscribe to. 8>)

@grandkarate Your said beliefs are correct. The NCTTA is a growing organization that is making great strides with collegiate table tennis. I actually have been running the Southern California division for the past few years & will continue to. Our division has grown every year since I started USC's Ping Pong Posse & helped UCLA form a club to get a region going. We are working to get in High Schools, then middle schools, then elementary. The sport is very popular, it just needs organization.

There is no doubt Kamal is really good because his routine and techniques are quite offensive. Keinath was just a little too cocky for me, but in the end, that was the best shakehand I've ever seen, or a hug to be exact.

@justin90876 Good question. As an American who loves table tennis and wants to grow the sport, it's an important question. I think the country needs to see how this sport can generate money in the US. I think that's the motivation for many things in the US (generally speaking). Maybe getting it into our schools would be a good start. We're working on teams leagues as we speak. It's a step in a long journey. 8>)

Great match - Thomas was a squealing jerk during the match, but to his credit showed good sportsmanship at the end.

@adambobrow I believe there is a collegiate table tennis league but it is not that big, instead of integrating it into schools we need to expand it.

I'm just asking the question overall. American players, when compared to players from China and European players, are not good.

@grandkarate Yeah, he sure beat his ass by winning by the most narrow margin possible in the sport after a come back. Kamal did beat Chen Weixing's ass if you wanna look that up though.

Thomas he tried to use "monkey and angry face" tactics to win this match but he couldn't. Check his play in other videos he didn't have this unsportmanship tactic.

Have to say, like some others here, found Keinath a bit of an ass...
    no, he was an ass.
    I like Achanta's game
@justin90876, The answer to your question is fairly simple. Maybe you know the answer but wanted to ask aloud all the same.
It is not part of American "culture" and as such does not cultivate players from a young age, developing them with great infrastructure & competition nor does it draw the most talented athletes to it as there is:
    a. no glory in it
    but really
    b. NO MONEY in it

I'm so glad Kamal won. Keinath is my least favorite player in all of tt. Nothing personal, his spastic style is just so ugly to watch, makes the sport look silly. *(not remarking about his ability in any regard, just don't like the way it looks)
