A tip for anyone considering one of the larger and less mobile chain sets. If you plan on using it daily at home or at work, you can keep the chain and lock attached at that location, around a pole, fence, etc. for your use to avoid having to carry the chain and lock with you.

Really bad advice! Thieves are known to cut those chains at night when nobody is around, replacing broken chain links with zip ties. When you arrive the next day, lock your bike and leave for work, they steal your bike in a matter of seconds!

@@Alex-he8gx why the hell would anyone replace the links with zip ties only to steal it the next day, when they have the opportunity right there?
That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard

@trollface3240 this thread was about leaving the chain in public overnight. The bike would obviously be with you at home at the time duh. This is a common stealing tactic here in London

I was looking at the Evolution, but you sold me on that New York chain with the pass-thru loop.
Very glad you explained the purpose of that, because it's exactly what I didn't know I needed!
It gives the flexibility of chaining up your bike/e-bike in both "B" shape with the pass-thru, or "O" shape like the traditional chain.

I use Kryptonite Evolution 4 Mini (55cm) 10mm chain. It's probably the best portability to weight ratio while still having adequate security for the price of my Escooter. I went for a chain over a D-Lock because I can wrap the chain 1 or 2 times around the frame-neck so there is no chance a thief can take the front wheel off and slip the lock through the gap. And if I find something more sturdier to lock it to then I have extra available length. All considering my Escooter is worth $500, not $5000.

@@misconduct6845 You can cut it with the big one with pure strength in seconds. I would strongly recommend at least the Evolution and a chain. U-Locks can be busted open with leverage tools like a long metal bar and other tools.

All vulnerable to cutting by angle grinders, even battery-powered ones. You didn't mention that at all. "Overview" was stretching it - was more like a QVC presntation of "features and benefits"of products, with no downside beyond thier weight.

None of these chains are advisable for any half decent bicycle in London England.
The scrotes here go around with portable angle grinders.
Best stick to Hiplok D1000 or Hiplok X1 / X3 d-locks which are the only (so far) grinder resistant locks available.
Just make sure to lock it onto something big or sturdy.

I’ve heard of thieves super gluing lock channels. That way they can come back later and cut the lock when less people are around.
