Used to stay with a lady on Monmouth road on holidays in the 70's and 80's. Happy times. Also remember the Odeon, and the high street and going to the Angerstein cafe for meals.
Lived on portchester road in the sixty’s . I can remember the buses powered by overhead cables.
I live only 15mins walk from old Kingston Crescent and I baffled many a bus driver by saying "can I have a single to Kingston cross please". Yep it was also known as that too. Nice to see someone videos of my home town (oops , sorry to the new school, CITY lol ). Thank you posting this video
When I was a child I always wondered why it was called North End. I thought it was because it was the North of Portsea Island. I was surprised when I found out the truth.
@@TimLambert101 and so many people don't realize Portsmouth is originally Portsea Island lol . I'm only 51 but still learning about my home town . Thank you for sharing this and other videos of this town
Really interesting thank you. I am an ex-North End boy myself.
Nostalgic... ex northender
Do you know what parts of North End were bombed during WW2?
There is a website called Portsmouthblitz.co.uk which has a map of the bombing of Portsmouth. I believe it is being updated at the moment but should be back soon.
Paddington road, every six house lost at least a roof in incendiary attacks!
I lived on Kingston Crescent when I was a little boy in the Seventies. This brought back more memories than Google maps can!
