My step grand mother always spoke about that she was born on Lambay and stayed there until she was five when her family moved to Dublin, In her later years her children bought summer homes off the north Beach in Rush.
Nice Vid Caroline, beautiful place! Did you happen to see any remains of the earlier church settlement that got attacked by vikings in 795? I believe it was situated to the west of the current chapel.
Hi Christopher, sorry about the VERY late reply!!! Firstly thank you for your nice comment and secondly no I didn't even know about the remains of the earlier church. That is such a pity as nobody mentioned it to be when I was out there!!
Was always intrigued by Lambay. I wrote to Lord Revelstoke who owned Lambay asking if me and my family could visit. Revelstoke (as he used to sign his letters) did not grace me with a reply. Think the Baring family who were a Banking family got much of their fortune from generous compensation from Parliament for the loss of their slaves after the Abolition of Slavery.
Love the sight of the place

Must go and see.

For comparison. Garnish Island world renowed island. Derreen Garden world renowed welcome.
I dont understand how owners can allow hunts there every year.
Should be thrown out after Brexit
The hunts are for culling. There are no natural predators on the Island.
Absolutely disgusting this Island is privately owned by a foreigner.
The Irish government should take control and hand it over to the OPW
And pack it full of Ukrainians who can then do for Lambay what they're doing for Carna. You'll have to be fluent in Irish then if you want to visit.
