If you're at all interested in behind-the-scenes, there's a shooting sketch for this Kinetic Manifesto MV and also the ON Commentary that shows behind the scenes for the musicians.
This song is from their Map of the Soul series where they examine themselves through the lens of famous psychologist Carl Jung’s theories about the psyche. Namely that the psyche consists of three parts: the persona = how other people see you, the Ego= how you see yourself, and the Shadow = all the parts of yourself that you hide from Both others and yourself, including your weaknesses, flaws, and fears. Jung theorizes that you need to accept and reconcile all three parts in order to become whole and find contentment. In other songs in this series BTS talk about their fear of and pain that comes with examining their shadows, but in this song they are ready to embrace the pain so that they can learn to love themselves for who they are and accept all the decisions they have made, both good and bad that have led them to become what they are today.
Thanks Todd. I am a 65 year old ARMY and what strikes me most, beyond their obvious talent, is their genius songwriting. This song, and others that are part of the Map of the Soul, were inspired by Swiss Psychiatrist Carl Jung's map of the soul theory of individuation and the struggle for full acceptance of all parts of ones self. You'll see it expressed in the use of lyrics about shadows, egos, and inner battles. The introduction song for this 'series' is presented in a rap song by RM called 'Persona'. 'Persona', like other BTS songs cannot be understood by the lyrics alone. There is a channel called DKDKTV that explains the lyrics from a Korean perspective. Whenever there is an explanation, you might want to consider reacting to the mv and the explanation, back to back. I think you will be quite impressed, as I have been, on just how brilliant the members are in bringing their message to us. I am going to subscribe so that I can enjoy your journey with you. ARMY grandma
forgot to mention....the dance group is from LA, called The Lab. As the MV starts out, front and center, there is a 19 year old girl named Sienna Lalau who created the choreography for this song and she has a you tube channel. There is also a short documentary about the background music by UCLA marching band and lyrics by a gospel choir.
Their lyrics have always been a reflection of their world at a given moment -- whether a deep dive into their inner selves or a commentary about the society and condition around them -- ever since their debut in 2013, when most of them were still in their teens (the youngest only 15 at the time). It's the sincerity and positivity in these lyrics that resonate with people and inspire them. I look forward to your next BTS reaction. "Black Swan", another single from the same album as "ON", shows you a different side to them -- a slower song and an artistic, contemporary choreography. You might want to check it out.
The location is the Sepulveda dam in LA. The video was shot early in 2020, just before Covid hit, on the same trip as they filmed the official Black Swan mv at the Los Angeles Theatre. The two songs are part of a sequence exploring Jungian psychological ideas of the Self, in this case Shadow. Black Swan precedes ON in the sequence. The roots of these ideas are deep in their work, going at least as far back as 2016 and the Wings era. What I’m saying probably sounds a bit dry but actually they’ve recently revealed just how much of a struggle they’ve been having with some of the fears and challenges they were dealing with in these songs. The choreographer of ON is Sienna Lalau of The Lab, who is the young woman the camera first focussed on at the start of the video. She’s worked with BTS on several productions, including the extraordinary Dionysus.
You trying to focus on the lyrics them singing and the dancing and just staring is me every time they have a come back I have to rewatch there mv’s like a 15+ times bc some of them do funny stuff in the back or adlibs I don’t notice the first time 😭😭
Hi there, I am glad you are enjoying BTS! This location is the LA bridge and canal system. It was the same location of the race scene in Grease among a lot of other car race movies. 💜💜💜😎
This is not the official MV. This is BTS’ contribution to end their global art project, Connect, BTS. The MV is a visual masterpiece. Both were filmed in Los Angeles.
The 'ON Commentary Film' is really interesting where they show the marching band and gospel choir elements recorded in LA. The producers, musicians and singers had nothing but great things to say about BTS and a lot of them are ARMY!💜 A couple of songs that really uplift you and have meaningful lyrics are '00:00 Zero o'clock' and 'Paradise'.💜
Yesss! Love watching first time reactions to this! It was the video that made me COMPLETE ARMY two years ago! And I always show it to friends who dismiss BTS as a "boy band." Ain't no "boy band" ever danced like this!
this is the first song I heard when I got into BTS early 2021 🥳 I was immediately in love with the group and became ARMY in a few days haha I remember watching the video over and over again to learn their names (only knew Jimin at that time) and I had trouble differentiating Jungkook and V. I finally knew their names after two days and after more than a year I’m so grateful to have found them 💜 I also watched a lot of their fan made crack videos on UA-cam and I just loved their humor and personality’s BTS and ARMY really saved my life and helped me battle depression and I’ll forever be grateful 🙏
Appreciate the review! pretty spot on regarding the lyrics breakdown... they were definitely going through a lot around this time! It was supposed to be their last album before taking a break (which happens only now 2/3years later mainly due to covid) So indeed most of their music definitely talks about where they are at mentally which is why they release their albums in series/ eras ( skool, youth, wings, love yourself, map of the soul, be, proof)! It is always a reflection and about exploring where they are at as individuals, as a group and in their careers... This song is part of the Map of the Soul era, theory developed by psychiatrist Karl Jung in which he used concepts like the shadows, the ego, the persona... so BTS used these concepts a lot in this series of 2 albums to try and navigate their thoughts, concerns,souls... They also explore a lot individually (especially right now) with solo mixtapes/ albums BTS is lyrically very rich and dense so just know it is a great journey to embarked on!! (one of many more reasons)
yes after they are more familiar? i think it can be savored even more after they are a bit more familiar with their songs? i have seen bits and pieces but am still saving watching 2019 MMA lol, I'm Butter Army :)
For ON they had both versions of music video, this Kinetic Manifesto and a more story based and, very allegory-heavy one. For Black Swan, the other single for the same album, they also had an art film (a choreography performed by an European company) and a music video focused on their performance
ON is an amazing song, BTS has an otherworldly versatility, I think almost every style you find in their discography (which is quite extensive). I would like to recommend you two songs (they are among my favorites) I think you might like. The first one is called "13430" (means Pluto), I think the lyricism of this song is one of the most interesting - again, I'm suspicious to say, because I love all the discography of these guys - and their second song is Black Swan.
I’m forever gonna be bitter that the concert for this album/era was canceled due to covid 🤧 I had such good seats too. So so sad. It was going to be epic 😩
To further exposure to how broad their range is: From Proof, do listen to RUN BTS. From previous album Map of the Soul 7, do view Black Swan (MV). from their pandemic album, BE (2020), Blue & Grey - very different. Some of their best tracks do not have MVs, e.g. DIS-EASE. And then, there is BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS! (MV)
Loving your reactions! Hope you continue with BTS! I’m a 43 year old ARMY who loves them so much. I’m not going to recommend music because I’m sure a lot of people are already recommending songs for you to check out and whatever you pick I will love. Hope you continue down this BTS journey! Subscribing now, thanks for a great reaction!
You might also enjoy their SAVE ME mv. It is also outside in the middle of nowhere. I can’t remember if it is actually one take or not. But it’s definitely filmed like it is.
The background for this mv is the Sepulveda Dam in LA, of the 5 Interstate Freeway, near Chavez Ravin, where Dodger Stadium is located. I appreciated your reaction. Looking forward to more.💜
Loved your reaction so I am going to subscribe so I can watch your journey of the most genius talents artists I have ever come across besides MJ of course! The barriers BTS have broken through their music and messages has made my last 4 and a half years of my BTS journey the MOST AMAZING insight and JOY I have ever experience and at almost 58 yrs young I am so glad I am still around to appreciate MUSIC and ART that has HEALED me in so many ways!! I thank you for opening your heart and mind and hope you will enjoy it as much as I have at date!! As there is 9 years of their Story it will be a lot of content as they give to ARMY so so much of them and that's why we LOVE them so much!! Take care, from your new Aussie Subscriber!! x
You can watch next "This is BTS" By Xceleste. It will tell you their story from the bottom, i mean, from when they had to share only one bedroom with all seven guys. This introduction video will give you totally different perspective on BTS(and it is also very entertaining, not boring documentary 😂😂) However if you just want to check their another music, then i recommend "Black Swan" and "Mic drop". You will see how versatile they are 😊😊 Thank you ! New subscriver here!
Hey I’ve seen you have done a bunch of Originals Tributes so a really good one I saw was “Hope Mikaelson ft Klaus Mikaelson - Always & Forever [+4x20] by Klaylope Mikaelson you should check it out.
please react to [MMA 2019] 방탄소년단(BTS) | Full Live Performance you will enjoy it a lot it is very different from what you have seen before from other artists, BTS are awesome!!!
There are BTS dance practice videos as well! You might like watching them! But for a recommendation, I suggest you watch their 2015 Performance Trailer. It is Amazing!
Thank you for appreciating and giving effort to react on BTS MVs.. Hope you can watch mic drop & black swan! Will wait for your another bts reaction vids 🫶
Thank you for the reaction. Could you please react to BTS V’s Singularity, Sweet Night (lyrics only an OST for the Kdrama “Itaewon Class” which has reached #1 on iTunes in 119 countries to date👏.
They the GOATs.

There is a beautiful MV for this song, too. I am 71 and love these guys.
I love BTS. But I also ARMY who always inform about BTS with such knowledge and grace. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🇬🇧

For all the vocal and dance talent they, it was the lyrics that sent me down the rabbit hole. They are fascinating writers.
