@@Komyeta Shooting an ejected pilot is a warcrime. Hitting the cockpit of a hostile aircraft in combat is not a warcrime any more than shooting the head of a soldier fighting against you.

+Mulinaster from my limited understanding of the ace combat games I understand this is a breakaway from them, but an AU game like this with a fresh mechanic like DFM will draw in new players to the franchise.
You still do have to be aware of your environment, it's not just on rails. I meant more that because there's no previous story to catch up on by being an AU to previous Ace Combats, fresh players can jump right in without having to play older games to understand what's going on.

While watching this, I don't expect realism, I expect crazy excitement. I kinda need that intense twitch in a combat flight game.

In my opinion, this game is something the industry needs. As much as there are those devoted flight sim fans, realize that it's a very niche audience. While there are people who enjoy realistic flight combat, staring at blips on the screen off in the distance isn't necessarily fun for everyone. This game serves as a relate-able title that draws mainstream attention towards jet fighting games, which can hopefully spur the production of new flight combat games (which may or may not be simulators).

AC:AH has some interesting features. Some worked, others not so well. I love the steel carnage effects, but I really don't like the story setup and the concept of ground attack in AC:AH (come on USA vs Russia ? Overused Scenario) I miss these gold old AC Days on the PS2 when a good placed FAEB or a SFFS dropped from a very high altitude gave Belka a very bad day :D

Without Assault Horizon, we wouldn't have the first graphical advancement in an Ace Combat installment where it would feature high definition damage models and steel carnage on enemy aircraft.
Eventually, this feature would be inherited in Ace Combat Infinity, and finally in Ace Combat 7.
I still remember the first ACE COMBAT I played on the PS1...ahhh memories...definitely the best aerial fighter I played...if this comes out, Im definitely buying.

In my opinion a good aircraft fighting game is one where winning isn't a competition of better missiles and the infinite turns in attempt to get behind one another like I see in a lot of games.
I'm feeling a little lucky, considering that I own The Unsung War and I've seen a lot of comments hailing it as (one of) the best game(s) in the franchise. Hard to disagree with them, considering that I've completed it several times and never get bored of it, unlike many other games.
If only they could go back and re-release it with some elements from Shattered Skies (multiplayer, ability to choose your special weapons separately from aircraft, etc.), I'd definitely buy it. The game is already phenomenal; those are just suggestions to improve it even further.
Tell me about it, I am still trying to unlock all the planes XD

Nada. When I was contacted for beta testing, that is what was implied. Trust me. As far as BF, I got added the project reality mod and the game is fantastic. Definitely more realistic. I highly recommend it for it's free.

@AeroSferistis The Terminator and Berkut are done. They were both just test aircraft for the Su-35BM (essentially for the Su-37) and the Pak Fa (for the Su-47). Also, from what I hear, one Terminator crashed a while ago and the other was converted back into the Su-35E. Who knows what happened to the Su-47

Though AC:AH is not the best ace combat ever, it is way more epic than other videogames.
Came here to post this, no game like this one managed to send my adrenaline level off the charts like this one. Dogfight mode, although it makes the game easier than the previous ones, it also drags you through some moments (like the one in the oilfields and Miami) that literally stop your heart. One thing that should be fixed was combat with helicopters.
Ultrakillerism I'm starting to create a new genre of games in my mind: epic. Games like this, that inject such a cinematic epic experience into the gameplay, even if the game isn't the best or the story isn't top notch, the experience itself is unlike any other. Dogfight mode in this game is a prime example. Another game like this is Need for Speed: The Run with it's great choice of contemporary/cinematic music, the easier quicktime cinematic events, great gameplay like car handling and constantly changing landscapes (think across the US diversity)
games are not about realism or simulation, games are supposed to be enoyable, that is achieved by giving the player an experience that can impress him and keep him on the chair at all times, action games need more adrenaline filled moments, look at gta4 , so much realism its boring!!! playing darts? pool? bowling? what about saints row 2 gang shooting from cars, gang wars, insane vehicles and planes and stuff, all the minigames racing, shooting shit, riding a quad on fire, blowing shit up with a military helicopter.. its all about fun and an adrenalinic feeling, not about boring you to dead playing bowling!..
ace combat assault horizon adds, unlike all the other games, pure adrenaline moments to the gameplay, even if it really simplifies it, it at the same time gives more a sense of awesome, a sense of "oh shit oh shit oh shit! WOOOOOO" moments.. i really loved this game not much replay value but, the first playthrough is a real blast :)

@mitrooper They already mentioned that this is not the true successor to the Ace Combat series. It's merely a different style they're trying to approach and aimed at newer players. I'm an old fan of the Ace Combat series since they began as "Air Combat" and I still enjoyed Assault Horizon. Granted not to the extent as to something like the original Ace Combat, but nevertheless I praise them for not being afraid to try something new.

^This, I've played the PS games until Fires of Liberation (damn you Namco for making it a Xbox exclusive) and I loved it.
Played AC Zero for the first time 2 weeks ago.
Infinitely more enjoyable in every way save for visuals than this shit show.
The reason they used the Real World is because unlike most games Ace Combat actually has a continuity. They wrote themselves into a corner with AC3 so... yeah.
It's not bad, hell it's actually pretty good and they've pretty much conquered the 'spiral of death' problem that plagued the series since AC3... even if conservatively.

There could also be some kind of time shifting feature in the story, where you play in different eras, like piloting modern jets in the actual storyline and playing with older planes through flashbacks.

This is still one of the best Jet fighter games out there and still is so this game has just upgraded to an even better feel and will get more looks from more people.

Lol. No technically speaking the F-35 super underpowered there in ace combat. ANY aircraft has less than 7% of survivability when engaged by multiple enemies. Add in ALL the F-35s classified systems in their and it's op.

ace...combat...soundtracks...are....the...best. and i mean it.
they have NEVER disappointed me, and i hope they never will.
they are amazing at creating soundtracks for their games...
actually, the soundtracks add more of a feeling of the game. for example, when you loose Chopper in AC5, and the music they play? makes you actually feel the loss of a wingman. second, Liberation of gracemaria+soundtrack...EPIC and proud sense of feeling :)
The violence and war in Assault Horizon is glorified. The old Ace Combat storylines were known for its showing of the horrors of war. That's what makes Ace Combat Ace Combat.
i played ac4 and zero back then and i love both solo wing pixie and yellow squadron. assault horizon looks more intense and the multiplayer games look fun too. wud like to try
@TheArb6: The F-16 didn't lost a single Air-to-Air Battle until now. It killed many MIG-29 and other. Also the F-15 won against the SU-30MKI in India. And.. in a Simulation of the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency the F-22 won against the SU-35 ( SU-37 without Thrust Vectoring ) with a 10-1 Kill Ratio. Also the F-22 does have a better Radar than the SU-35/37 & it's Stealth, the SU-35/37 aren't. In a Battle it's depending on the Pilot too.

Oh yeah definitely the old stories were artistic masterpieces and especially Ace combat 4's story, it was simply beautiful, that I absolutely agree with you on. I'm just glad that I met another Ace combat fan who understands that Assault Horizon is still a good game nonetheless.

Project Aces is making a new Ace Combat set in Srangereal.
If they remake Electrosphere I will probably die from excitement. Just picked this up for £5 in the Steam Sale, so I won't be to bummed out if its not great.
