    Grace, dignity, class and unity. The late Queen represented all these values effortlessly but perhaps her most incredible feat was doing so with an ever-present twinkle of mischief in her eye. RIP, greatest Legend of all!

    I'm gonna miss our Queenie, but Diana was a bigger loss to me. I still remember my mum waking me up to tell me she'd died in a car accident. I was only 16 but I was in utter disbelief. Diana was bigger than the Queen for almost 2 decades. No doubt about that. She was the people's Queen, and during the 80s/90s she was an absolute rockstar. I can't even explain to people who either weren't around then, or who aren't British, just how insane the coverage of Diana was - it was every single day for 16 years straight. It even killed her in the end. I'm 41 now and I've never known someone to be as famous as she was in the UK. She was famous around the world but it was next level here in England. Honestly though, I wouldn't wish that amount of fame/intrusion on anybody.

      I agree with you - I was 15, the same age as William was when Diana died and I was so upset. I remember watching her funeral on TV at the time and crying in disbelief. We only had 4 channels back then, so it was on the BBC and ITV.

    Even though she was very old and there had been reports of her not feeling well and canceling some engagements, I thought maybe she would still be alive for a few more years, but just slipping into more of retirement. It was a shock to hear she passed away. When someone has always been around that is such a huge figure that everyone in the world knew of, it seems like they will live forever. I'm sure that her family is feeling a huge weight on their hearts because she was such a strong figure in the family. Especially with William and Harry since they lost their mother at a young age. I got the feeling that they were a bit closer to her than the other grandchildren due to that.

    It's crazy to feel shocked by it because she was so old but we never knew anything else for so many years. It's not like we didn't see it coming. The few days before I kept thinking "what will happen when..." but I didn't expect it at this point. I feel like none of us expected it all in a way.

    I'm an American, and I have always loved and admired the Queen. She has been Queen since I was 1 year old. When I heard the news, I wept. She has always been an example of grace, dignity, devotion, commitment, faith, and stability, in the midst of constant change. In this day and age especially, it seems she has been someone we could always count on to do and say the gracious and diplomatic thing. It may seem strange to Brits, but for many of us who are NOT Brits, she is very personal to us and will be deeply missed. I will continue to look to the memory of her example as a role model in my life. I send you all my deepest sympathies and please know that we share in your mourning.

    Thanks, Lea and Joel, for doing such a great job.
    To all listeners who question why the Monarchy:
    In our Constitutional Monarchy, The Sovereign as the Head of State is the King or Queen of Canada (my country) and is the living embodiment of each and every citizen of Canada and all their other 14 Realms.
    Our politicians come and go but can never seize the power away from us the people because our Sovereign holds it in our name. I like that. In fact, each time the Prime Minister, Cabinet, Members of Parliament, and Cabinet bow to the Throne they are acknowledging they serve us not boss us.
    Additionally, the continuity the Monarchy provides us can never be provided by a President who quickly comes and goes and, usually, has little or no practice in doing their job. Our Prime Minister is in that role. Our Sovereign and His/Her successors give to us centuries of accumulated knowledge and leadership that is handed from one to another. Our new King was trained for his role his entire life, just as William is being trained for the day he ascends the Throne. Even now, Prince George is becoming aware of what is going on around him and will be continually trained until he becomes King. Absolutely invaluable!
    Those who suggest that now The Queen has died why don't we become a republic completely misunderstand the 1000 years of history, uniqueness, continuity, strength, and security The Monarchy provides us. A republic is too unstable to provide any of those. The past and present demonstrate that.

    • @doughmestic-bliss
      @doughmestic-bliss 2 роки тому +2

      Becoming a republic had reared its head here in Australia as well (some thoughtless clot even tweeted about it on the day she died) and every time it comes up I ask the same question, how does electing a head of state make our lives better and nobody has yet given me an answer.

    • @michaeljamesstewart1000
      @michaeljamesstewart1000 2 роки тому +2

      @@doughmestic-bliss You are absolutely correct. Fortunately, to modify or change anything in our Constitution, it requires all ten Provinces, and three territories to agree, plus unanimous agreement of The House of Commons, The Senate, and The Governor-General. The chance of that happening is highly unlikely. If the Constitution is opened for change, then we would get some people in the Provinces of Quebec and Alberta wanting to separate, plus God knows what else. Our strength is in unity, thus I really don't think anyone would be stupid enough to attempt changing it.

    As a Canadian (we are part of the Commonwealth and she was our Queen), I would say to Americans that there is a very marked structural, cultural, and historical difference between celebrity and royalty. Just my perspective, I see some Americans trying to understand what the monarchy means, and the closest thing they can think of is a major celebrity. Not. The. Same.

When I discuss your videos with friends now, it sounds like 2 British people Ive been friends with for a while. Lol. I also follow the royal family because I love the tradition and they have been an example of Great Britain. I am so saddened by the loss of the Queen. I hope as a country you grow stronger through the legacy she left behind. Just wondering how are people in England feeling about King Charles being the head of the monarchy now? I grew up loving Lady Di, so wondering if that plays into any views on how he will be as king.

    The ultimate stiff upper lip. Sad for her passing and amazed she kept her vow, without 'a hiccup', to then serve for her entire life.
    And that she surely knew more and more in her final days that they were to be in Scotland then.

Granted, the British monarchy is ever so much more overreaching globally than any other monarchy, but the Queen, as an individual, was a completely exemplary human. Flags are at half staff everywhere in the USA right now in honor of the Queen, realize that this is easily tens of millions of flags. A little bit of unknown respect for a woman of worth that Brits may not realize!

    Like the the monarchy or the royal family or not, the woman was was a mother and a grandmother and a great grandmother ,and whether you think she deserves all this attention ,she did a job for 70 years, what that job intaled as an American, I don't really know but some people seem to be celebrating her life.My condolences to her immediate family members.

      All of this pomp & circumstance has been carefully planned for decades. It’s very sad and exciting at the same time. She died quickly with the same dignity that she lived her life and served her country. It’s rather poetic.

    Here's some perspective for you. I'm 59 years old. When I was a year old, The Beatles met Queen Elizabeth in October of 1965, and at that time, she was already about ten years into her reign! Losing her must be just like when my generation lost John Lennon. He was an older brother who had been there all our lives. I think I have a small indication what Queen Elizabeth's death must feel like to our friends in Britain.

    I’m so sorry!! I’ve done nothing for a month! I keep watching the funeral & I cry. My heart is so broken. How are you handling things? I’m so sorry. That thing hurt the Queen and she went down so fast. That California thing is EVIL 😈 I apologize to you. I wish I could do something but cry.

    Queen Elizabeth 2, was our connection to the Winston Churchill Era of understanding that "Borders, Language, Culture and Arming for Self Protection" was UNDERSTOOD, and absolutely PROVEN to be Paramount, to real Survival and utter Success individually and Nationally!!!!! (MAY our ALL POWERFUL GOD NOW Intervene to utterly reveal and utterly revoke all EVILS at their core roots!!!!! Thank YOU GOD YOU PROMISED to give grace and mercy for the sake of the Elect!!!!! AMEN and AMEN!!!!!)

    Being an American I can't say I am pro monarchy, but I have always respected the queen. From her time as princess and WWII and her passing she has always presented a good image of the monarchy (Henry VIII, not so much.). I am so ashamed of the actions of our former president when he visited the UK. He clearly did not present a good image of our country.

    I’m from Texas so maybe I’ve not understood the UK’s temperature, but I’ve wondered to what degree the monarchy would survive after the Queens passing, and if Charles would be skipped over due to his divorce. And the times..they are a changin..
