I've got the OG Vanford in c3000 & 4000 size. Love em both. I use the 4k for flounder fishing & the 3k for speckled trout on a GLF rod. They started my love affair with Shimano. Now i have several Stradics, a Nasci, Spheros...and they're all great.
I always used the nasci reels and they are great but I picked up a vanford last year and wow what a difference. Totally getting the new model to go with my new dropshot rod.
Hey JP. I’m looking at upgrading from a Nascii 1000 to the Vanford 2000 FA for my ultralight stream wading rig. You think the 2000 would pair/balance well with my current TFO trout/panfish 6’ rod? Thanks for the in-depth videos!
Nice I live in Nth Qld Australia 🇦🇺. I fish 5 to 7 days a week on the great barrier reef. And I love my little vanford. But my 4000 to 20000 Stella's are the main reels that get used. Love your video man cheers
Hello, I am a new viewer and wanted to know if i should get the new vanford or the old one, while it may seem obvious, I’ve heard the changed a part on the new one and im afraid it may affect as far as longevity goes. I’m just wondering if u heard anything about that? And if u think it’s better to get the newer or older model ( I do Ultra Light Trout Fishing) this will be my first big reel purchase so I want it to last a long time thanks
Everything is an upgrade on the new Vanford that was changed but both are great reels. I don’t think you can make a mistake either way as I still love my old Vanford but really love the new one! 😂
Fuego’s are ok for a little while. But what you really want in comparison to the stradics/vanford is the Ballistic. I prefer the ballistic because of the still easy retrieve. Shimanos retrieves have gotten too tight.
@JP, did they fix the tightness of the retrieves yet? I haven’t liked any reels since the last black and red ci4+, because of that easy retrieve they had. It seems like since they’ve went to the different gearing it’s made the retrieves way too tight and burns up your wrist and forearm when making a lot of casts and retrieves. I’ve had to switch to Daiwa ballistic because they still have the easy retrieves. But I’d like to start getting some Shimanos again if they ever fix that issue.
Haven’t heard anything about Chronarch. Not sure if it has been placed aside to be honest. But with the Curado 150 MGL I wouldn’t even look at a Chronarch as the new Curado is a monster
@@Sam-mu5xh I do not have a G Loomis GCX. I went with the Zodias purely out of how it looked along with the Vanford and found I really liked the rod for how it works and how it looks. G Loomis, I couldn't comment on, but I wouldn't be opposed to any G Loomis rods. Thanks for asking.
Hi. Kind of struggleling to chose which reel would fit for me. I want to use a spinning reel for freshwater offshore jigging with jigheads from 0.2/0.7 oz (10/21 gram) In your video you state that you would rather use the stradic fm for this kind of work, correct?
If fishing straight Fluoro the Vanford would get the nod. For PowerPro to Fluoro leader situations I prefer the Stradic. It’s just over an ounce and a half weight difference so really not that big of a deal and their internals and tech are identical so for a more robust offering Stradic wins
Hey JP! I am planning to upgrade to this reel from my Ultegra FC, however I still couldn't decide between this new Vanford and Stradic FM. What are your thoughts? - btw, are you planning to do a comparison between those two? Thanks a lot in advance, great videos!
Definitely planing a comparison video! should be done by next week but in a nutshell the two reels are twins internally and spec wise with the exception of overall weight, frame material and rotor material. If you want a lighter reel with faster start up and stop then go Vandford, if you are fishing a lot of braid to fluoro, not so finesse techniques, Stradic will be a great choice. For some, the looks of the Vanford is the deciding factor but spec'd out, they are twins
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors thanks for the quick response. I am from Hungary, in our rivers there are asps, pikes and perch, I would use the reel for these kind of fish, (catfish is a different level and technique) - so honestly the Ultegra does a great job but I have decided to do an upgrade. First I was thinking on Sustain, but this new Vanford/Stradic line made me excited. Anyway, I think both reels would be a great upgrade from an Ultegra. Thanks for the help again! ✌🏻Looking forward to see the next videos! Regards, Csaba
Yeah, each Shimano office by region has to do a market analysis to see what models are most requested. I would sooner see them terminate the 1000 and bring in the 2000 as well
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors Yes absolutely , bin enjoying your vids for some time now thought I would send a sub your way , Well let's hope we get that Stradic FM in the 2000 size , myself I would take it over the Vanford , thanks for all the info.
Are you kidding me i just bought my first ever 1st generation of the vanford at bass pro last weekend if i would have known i would have waited for the new one
New Vanford should be a nice reel. The 2000 size has larger diameter spool than 1000 size. 43mm v 40mm. In regards to the duracross drag washer it is not carbon-felt hybrid, it is felt that has been constructed in such a way that the fibres are knitted together to give more durability, in theory the washer should not come apart as easily as the traditional felt.
It's kind of crazy that most companies can't figure out how to make a good spinning reel and Shimano has basically figured out how to make 2 different lines of spinning reels and they're all freakin awesome for the price... If they figured out how to make the current Vanford better I can't wait to get my hands on one. Great video brother just recently subbed and been watching some of your older videos keepem coming man!!!
Never would buy a vanford again. Had three two 2500 and a 1000. Just recently the neck broke on a hook set on about a 6 lb snakehead. Just bought the new stradic fm. Hopefully it will hold up to them beautiful fish!!!
Are you power fishing with the vanford? I've always considered that reel to be a finesse reel only. The stradic will be way better in durability when it comes to horsing or power fishing.
@@Slickdragonslayer71 The stradic or the vanford? I would not for the vanford unless you're fishing deep water and plan on tiring it out. I would not use a vanford in thick cover trying to haul fish out, cuz thats how you break stuff. I've used my stradic fl since the day of release on king salmon and never had an issue. One thing I've notice with people (this may not be you) but they get confused with the vanford vs stradic. A lot of people tend to use either reels for the wrong application at times which was either stradic for finesse or vanford for power fishing just because of the reel looks.
Plus you should be using a 3000 vanford reel for snakehead. You're using to light of a reel. But it shouldn't snap. That's a defect reel from the factory.
You might want to check out the new Vanford, Stradic, Twin Power or Stella as they all share the new Duracross drag washers which are the smoother ones o have ever used. The standard Cross Carbon can be sticky as they are designed for hard running fish and longevity. These are completely new
Typically they make the arbour smaller to accommodate more line capacity. Otherwise, the reels are twins however I have been know to make the odd mistake!

It will be lighter than the Nasci 1000 so it will have no issue balancing out nicely! Will make a great pairing.
I have a 6’6 TFO UL. I have an Ultegra 1000 on it. Great step up from the Nasci but cheaper than Vanford

Get the 2024 Twinpower & 2024 Certate. Those 2 are all you'll ever need. If on a lower budget, then Stradic FM & Daiwa Fuego.
Agree
Fuego isn't near Stradic level. I feel like Stradics are the Curados of spinning reels.
