What a wonderful video, thank you for explaining what conditions Alocasias like to grow in. I have 7 planted in my front yard and they don't seem too happy. I know they are being overwatered, but I live on a hill and I know that my soil drains well--so your explanation helps me solve my problem 😊. You are very knowledgeable and informative, the quality of your knowledge is rare on the internet.
I also want to say that I lived in India (Chennai, specifically) for a year, you have such a beautiful country and rich culture!
She's from Bangladesh, not India. See her bio, above.
Thank you so much I could save my thi caladium with this soil mix it almost died❤❤❤❤❤
Unique potting mix 👌 I find you experimental too(may be experienced). My question is as you use bark in soil mix. Is there anyway that we can use some dry branches of tree by cutting it in pieces like bark in the potting soil mix? I am desperately waiting for your reply.thanx in advance
Yes, you can use it, just make sure the branches are enough dry. The bark is mainly used to improve drainage as well as increase soil acidity. However, next time try to use tree bark.😊
By the way, I have a Master's in Soil Science. Hope this soil mix will help improve the growth of your plants. 😊☘️🌷
Valuable informations. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. Will try to mimic the potting mix but may not get all the ingredients. I have killed many alocasia and hope this will help.
Is care for caladiums similar?
Thank you soooo much for sharing ❤❤❤❤
Very nice information 😊
Hi! in my country hard to find pumice or perlite. So give me a any other suggestions for perlite
You can use coarse sand (1-2mm) as an alternative. 🌷☘️🌻
Very informative 😊
Thank you for your video. Do you think i can use buckwheat shell/husk to prepair the soil for my alocasias, instead of rice hull? I just have quite some buckwheat husk at home and have been hesitating to throw it out as i thought i might need it for something:) Thank you
Hi,
-Can I use Coco coir instead of Coco peat?
-Can I skip the rice straws? Or do I have to use something else instead?
- Can I use this mix for my Philodendrons as well or do I have to change something in the recipe?
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
Coco coir is mainly used to increase the porosity of the soil along with good moisture-holding capacity. You can use coco peat instead of Coco coir but at that point, you need to add extra gritty substances.. Also, you can use rice hull instead of rice straw. This ingredient is generally used to increase soil acidity.
Furthermore, you can use this soil mix for philodendrons as well.. 🌷🌷
نبتة جميلة جدا 👍
للأسف لا نفقه لوغتك
1 coco peat or peat moss
1/3 carbonated rice husk
1/2 orchid tree bark
1/3 coco chip 1 to 2cm
1/3 pumice/ perlite or both
1/4 partly carbonated rice straw
1/2 leaf mold /other compost
I dk where I would find a lot of those indegredients.
I love this video. I have 9 different Alocasias in my collection and this video has been very helpful. I find it hard to find a rice straw retailer here in Germany. Shipping from abroad beats the purpose of mixing my own soil. Would you know any rice straw seller in Europe? Or is there any other type of straw I can replace it with?
Give a video about Homalomena.
Sure😊🌷☘️
Do you sell/swap Alocasia pups?
Where are you from?
@@Plantalogy will be moving to hyderabad soon
@shiuli_AllStarNoobs I'm from Bangladesh and we don't have the excess to send you plant pups. ☹️🌷
@@Plantalogy no problem. Thanks for replying. Wish you lots of goof luck with the channel 🤗💕
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It’s almost a soilless potting mix
Yes, 🌷
I just bought an alocasia African mask I believe is the name. At the store all leaves were good. When I got home the next day the smaller ones are wilting. The soil feels slightly damp, no cold drafts and under a grow light. Should I clip the smaller leaves this is day two in my house. I have a lot of plants. At least 50+ I have alocasias too. So idk what to do 😢
Such yellowing of leaves is a process of adaptation of the plant to its new environment. You can remove it, but it would be much better if you leave the plant as it is. You can remove the leaves if that is completely dried out. 🌷☘️🌷😊
Wish you good luck😊
