Sir I am a 10th grade student. My question is about significant figures. In your book, you write that if we are given 600mm as a measurement and least count is unknown, then, it will have 1 significant digit and 2 significant digits for a measuring tool graduated at every meter and centimeter respectively. How can this be true, why is the number of significant figures for centimeter scale not 3?
If you are measuring with a metre scale you will have subdivisions of centimetres. The given measurement is 600mm. So when you have a meter scale to measure the 600 mm object, you can measure 0.6 metres without any error (even if the object crosses a little beyond 0.6 metres, we won't be able to measure it with our eye) Here 6 is the only significant digit. And coming to the centimetre scale. The subdivisons are millimetres. So when we measure the 600mm object here it will show 60 centimetres (even here, if the object crosses 60cm a little we wont be able to measure it correctly.) So the significant digits are 2. Coming to the millimetre scale. When we measure the object of length in the question, when we say 600 millimetres while measuring with a millimetre scale, all the digits are accurate. This doesn't mean that the object should be just 600 millimetres and not extra. Its just that we know for sure its 600 millimetres + some error.

Sir I am indrajit mondal from West Bengali.Istudy in class 11 . I have a question on the example of inertia . In a glass we put a card with a coin. When we push the card fastly the coin falls on the glass. But when we push the card slowly then why the coin doesn't fall? What is the fallacy between this problems?
Friction , when the card is moving fastly kinetic friction is acting and there is slipping , but when the card is moving slowly, static friction is acting and there is no slipping
