@@hw7001 Who gives a shit. I would rather they have $5k than a high end set of NODS. What are they going to buy with that money that is worth more than those? A used Hilux? Who cares

First a like, watch it afterwards. The surroundings look like 90+ % of post-com block-of-flats "sleeping quarters" in my childhood did. Stay safe Val, love you ;)
@@Paul-qk3wr there are only so many blocks that look like that up to 80km from the front, so it is possibile to identyfy the neighborhood that soldiers live in +military trucs. For sure footage is at least 2 weeks Old but its better to be cautius, we cant loose val
He is right, pros can geolocate such footage if they get a little more info normal people usually don't notice. Maybe a car registration plate, grafitti etc.
Problem is you need a proprietary mounting strap that needs a slick MICH helmet type, there is no real adapter for helmet shroud mounting, only homemade mounting plates or 3D printed adapters. I also feel like they will probably prefer to send nightvision together with a laser light module (PEQ) device for example Germany is currently issuing newer nightvision devices and soon new PEQ units, maybe we’ll see a delivery in the future
@@aquila3958 there are shroud mounts, its not even an issue (you just have to know where to look) and cost between 100-150 euro for each (arm + adapter). Regarding laser modules, same thing as lucie is LLM01 from Oerlikon / Rheinmetall, quite simple and reliable, does the purpose but with original headlamp its very weak (laser and IR lamp is fine) and its already quite old. But would be still very helpful on Ukrainian battlefield.
awesome vid like always, but about green VS white phos, human eyes recognize green shades most out of any colors, that's why green phos nvgs provide better contrast your drivers might be found off. the phosphor color dose not effect the way you see trough the windows nor really any other characteristics of the device. Phosphor color is pretty much personal preference. there is a possibility that white phosphor fatigues your eyes less because its engineered to take advantage of also rods in your eyes, that are meant for seeing in the dark. I have owned both green and white night vision and both can be used to get the job done. Also when looking at gen 2 options photonis green tubes tend to have 2000+ gain over their white counterparts, making them a bit better in low light.
The green ones also have another benefit: if you don't have manual gain, they cause much less adaption in the eye. Taking white phosphor tubes off in darkness, you'll not see much for a while.
The gain difference between white or green is because the standardized method for measuring is based on green phosphor. I prefer green, feel like I get more contrast. But purple after view a few minutes after use.
Yeah the Gen 3 white phos are good with really great clarity but they definitely take time getting getting used to when you take them off but you get used to it
Personally I prefer white phosphor 100%, greens were just straining my eyes way too fast when I was tired and doing guard duty also when driving or commanding my APC.
I know that military grade night vision devices can't be purchased by members of the public in the European Union, but I'm really surprised that you had to import this one from Afghanistan. Aren't Western countries supplying night vision devices to Ukraine? Or at least allowing the Ukrainian armed forces to purchase some?
Many units were delivered as help, but since we have huge army now, at least 50% are private purchases/ devices bought from donations, there is no easy mechanism how to import them, they need to be hidden even from our own boarder guards, you need declaration etc (impossible process) yes, it is clown world
If you are looking for a source of CR123 cells talk to some companies that service marine EPIRBs, most of the batteries are made from CR123s and are replaced on a schedule significantly before the cells expire.
I wonder about the thermals sent over. I have personally seen twin NVGs for a while, dating all the way back to 2004. I don't know how Russian/Soviet NVGs are distributed or are in comparison to US ones. I do know that the newest generation ones are pretty crazy. Its like a hud, NVGs and thermals all in one. Videos are available on youtube under ENVG-B.
I've always wondered why these expensive NV systems with actual intensifier tubes are still used instead of IR cameras which can be exponentially cheaper. I've gotten a 1080p digital NV camera for $50 and yeah something _that_ cheap is probably a bad idea but something of better quality could theoretically be a good option while being cheaper than these multi-thousand dollar gadgets. Does it have to do with the difference in field of view and appearance when looking directly through an optic versus looking at a digital display right in front of your eyes?
Damnit Val seeing you be so damn grateful for that NVG that you had to buy "from somebody that knew somebody" that was using it in Afghanistan, and then having to smuggle it all the way to Ukraine just to fight for your life and the existence of Ukraine... damn that made my blood boil. NVG and other force multipliers like that are something it would be super easy for my gov't to provide (USA) But the benefit to you is so worth it. It makes me SICK seeing Uncle Sam feed you all on a starvation diet while at the same time telling you how grateful you should be. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! AND YES UKRAINIANS ARE "OUR" TROOPS! KEEP MESSING AROUND WITH FUNDING THEM AND THE EU and the US will find out excatly how literal that it when poutine's doesn't decide to stop after Ukraine because of how lame NATO has been!!!
Granted NATO and especially USA are absolutely crucial, and delivered huge number of everything, it's just the scale of the war, numbers of equipment and arnament needed are just too huge, we also add combat loose of these items and at the end it is what it is, but without USA, we would loose two years ago
Good to see you’re doing well Val. Which generation are these image intensifiers, are they gen 2+ or are they gen 3? And is it possible that we(tacticool/milsim nerds) can actually buy some of these as military surplus items when this war is over? It probably would be a little bit cheaper. Just me being curious, stay safe bro!
Obviously the stuff will flood the market after the war! The was is keeping prices high atm. Gen 2+ / Gen 3 means nothing if it's not related to a particular tube. European manufacturers don't really follow these "generations" anyway. The tube he has seems to be one of the newer cathode materials with decent IR performance and obviously it has an MCP, so it's similar to American Gen3
@@testboga5991 tubes in this video are likely omni 7-8 contract gen 3 tubes. really nice ones. European manufactures do follow the generations just generations dont reflect the performance of a tube anymore thanks to advances photonis has made. a gen new 2 tube can outperform a older gen 3 tube no problem
It would really be interesting to know how you even manage to export that item out of Afghanistan and get it into the EU and then Ukraine :) That must be some black magic voodoo :)
Is it particular weapons the russians are using more of such as large calibre aerial thermobaric/fab bombs or just overall more shit they have/less ukraine has as to why ukraine is suffering more now?
It's amazing how much good stuff the US Army left behind in Afghanistan. And why? For what? Why didn't they save it to provide american allies in the future?
A lot got destroyed. Also the reason why a lot was left behind was because the US didn’t expect the Afghan military to collapse as fast as they did even if we should have known that it would likely happen
No, it's something to do with the chemicals used for these to work. Newer NVGs use white phosphorus which give off a bluer shade of green aka turquoise.
we can assume its either an engineer with connections to the afgan government or an embassy offical. the actual seller could be some random guy who picked it up, a blackmarketeer, or a full time arms seller, or an quatermaster for the taliban with offical government permission. there are gonna be some mad books written about this war.
5500 USD for those NVG, even being 2nd hand, is a good price. I wish I found the same deals hahaha
It’s 5.894$ Dollars 😅
They usually cost around 6,000 maybe a little more or less depending on where they get them
