73 YO Nordic PT here! From the beginning of acid reflux.....if they just sleep on their right side....that puts the valve on the top so no acid will ever reach it! Immediate, interim self help! Really works too!!! D
Yes it’s helpful but not for everyone. The hiatal hernia maneuver is more effective bc any have symptoms during the day too and we all have to stand.
yes, i thought it was the left side, im sleeping on the wrong side ? 🤭
Great I can improvize intuitively get the mmessage fantastic
I’m suffering horribly from this. I get vapor locked… can’t swallow. Gas under my ribs that hurts terribly. Burping and extremely short of breath. Can’t sleep in any position… acid reflux… it causes me to suffer horrible anxiety and panic attacks. I’ve been hospitalized for them dozens of times. HELP ME.
I had same problem for long time. I had been hiatal hernia repair surgery 3 days ago in qatar , so I should have on special diet for about 6 weeks. In Syaa Allah this surgery can make me healthy
This is the worst pain ! I wish all chiropractors were like this good man! But is hard to find help
Wow this is a good doctor I need to see him
Nice exercise doc ....
I had a CT scan on my back. The doctor told me he could see a hiatal hernia from the back pictures. He said it has to be pretty large to be seen from that direction. He's immediately referred me to a gastroenterologist. I'm concerned because I have learned the surgery doesn't work well. I also cannot be put to sleep because I react to anesthesia and can't be woke up very well. I'm on Medicare and a supplemental insurance and they don't pay much on chiropractic. I'm also in upstate South Carolina so I wouldn't know where to go. This sounds so much better than surgery!
Medicare does cover chiropractic care and we have a self help device coming out soon. Refluxshield.com
@@Synergywellnessny I live in S.C. and all the Medicare Insurances do not cover chiropractic as they are mostly self pay, the good ones like you anyway. They do not accept any insurance except maybe BC/BS and that't is if they do take insurance. It's sad that we cannot get the care we need without going bankrupt.
You guys need to cover to California!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dam this is crazy I’m going through this going on 10 years my self, they want to do surgery on me next month. I feel for this guy .
I'm 36 and in Texas and going to see a chiropractor about by hiatal hernia next month. I had an endoscopy this year done and they said I have Barrett's and a small hiatal hernia. I was diagnosed with GERD in 2006. I had chronic fatigue and sinusitis develop in 2015 that has kept getting worse. 2 nasal surgeries, sleep studies and many labs with no improvement. A functional medicine doctor I spoke to recently said the hernia might be the hernia might be the issue with reflux which can also cause nasal inflammation. I have a sharp pain in chest on left side, heart issues have already been ruled out.
Good luck the maneuver is helpful and effective. We have a self help tool coming out soon, stay tuned.

I was misdiagnosed with a Hiatal hernia on October 2021.
On 2022, I took a barium x ray test,
Esophageal manometry test and a new endoscopy at a different location.
These three tests justified that I DO NOT have a Hiatal hernia.
I feel like I got a new lease in life.
Same here, my gastro said I had a hiatal hernia after an endoscopy. After a couple years he finally said surgery is the only option if I dont wanna PPI. I had all of the tests you did by a thoracic surgeon who did an endoscopy himself and said I do not have a HH.
@@ezdoesit6286
I would trust the thoracic surgeon. Some gastro Drs. Make mistakes.
You're very lucky to not have a Hiatal hernia. You should feel happy about it. If you have your test results, look at them whenever you're in doubt.
Once you know your stomach and esophagus region is normal, allow your mind to move on from doubts.
I was convinced I don't have a hiatal hernia during my barium X-Ray test.
The technicians asked me to take deep breaths during the test, my stomach remain intact underneath my diaphragm. No obstruction, etc.
The manometry test is more accurate than an endoscopy at most times since they can detect precisely the landmarks, measurements and abnormalities within the esophagus and LES region.
If you have GERD, most likely is due to low stomach acid, PH imbalance, stress or anxiety. Stress and anxiety decrease stomach acid, when stomach acid decreases, the LES sphincter muscle doesn't close properly.
Stress loosens the contraction of the LES muscle in your gastro-esophageal junction, resulting reflux/GERD.
My primary Dr. Assumed I "had" a hiatal hernia by doing a physical exam, I told this to my first gastro Dr., Yet he failed to determine what the cause of my reflux truly was.
After learning I don't have a hiatal hernia, I feel way less stressed out, less anxious. I have less GERD symptoms.
I believe my problem was high levels of cortisol and stress causing my gastric problems.
You are so blessed because living with a hiatal hernia is pure hell on earth nowhere to turn
Ok , but how do you feel????? thats the most important part how do you feel without medication??? a diagnossi of hiatal hernia isnt a big deal, also the hernia slides up and down. meaning you may have had a hernia last week, but this week it slid back down. The stomach moves up and down and does not stay in place. its attached to the Anterior longitudinal ligament and therefore the spine.
I had the surgery and felt awesome for about a year. then I think it came undone from moderate exercise and symptoms are back. try everything before surgery
I've never been treated like this and I've been to 4-5 chiropractor. I'm definitely "THROUGH". WENT TO ER EARLY THIS MORNING .. HAVE A SMALL HIATAL HERNIA. MY BACK ....CONSTANT PAIN 24-7.... UNBELIEVABLE !
I am a las vegas veteran patient had the hiatel hernia and diacissi recti in central stomach area, and been suffering for many years...
Have the hiatal hernia maneuver done! High success rate! Trick is finding someone that knows how to do it.
I was said to have las lex hiatus hill grade 3 ,... the doc did not talk much n prescribed lot of medicines. The pain n fullness is really something. now what helps me from your side it means a lot to me. Any exercise... or this anything??
That's awesome
2020 with hiatal hernia. Im doing ultimate frisbee and ive been having a hard time really breathing properly
Been there, done that. Had severe "attacks" that felt like what a heart attack would feel like. Just before COVID I got the surgery, helped immensley. Thanks for posting this video.
@@ycfliv4219 When I went to a follow up appointment with my surgeon, I was told this could reoccur again. But after 2 years, I am doing fine. :-)
Wow, I was told I didn't have any options. That regardless of how severe a hiatal hernia is, they don't do surgery for it! My physician even said she had a patient whose stomach was up near their heart and they didn't have any way of fixing it.
This video gives me hope ❤
Actually, there's different surgical options,
The gold standard is called:
"Nissen fonduplication "
This consists on wrapping the fundus around the lower esophagus to create a tightened lower esophagus, thus prevents reflux.
This surgery is for Grade I hiatal hernias, type II, type III and Type IV.
This method has about 98% success rate. Some patients go for 10 to 20 years without a surgical intervention or re-herniating.
There's TIF procedure, these are more suitable for grade I hiatal hernias. The lower part of the esophagus is pushed down inside the entrance of the stomach, then, fasteners will be "stapled" in a 360 fashion around the lower esophagus, this creates a new lower Esophageal valve. This method rely on scar tissue build up to keep the valve strong. This method has about 70% success rate.
There is the newer method called:
" Linx" magnetic Implant.
It's basically a magnetic ring that is placed around the lower Esophageal valve. On the LES. After the diaphragm is sutured, the stomach is pulled down, replaced, then the linx ring is implanted. This rings serves to keep the esophagus valve closed when foods or liquids are not ingested.
The downside of this method is that the Linx implant is that the Linx magnet loses function, plus. You can't get an MRI anymore. Because it is a magnet, it can explode around your esophagus
Had egd and cat scan for mine taking pills now
I was so bad i could speak more than a couple sentences without feeling like i would pass out.
Idk if I have a hiatal hernia, I’m barely paying close attention to these videos, but I’ve had all these symptoms: inability to breathe a full gulp of air, having to cough to “create space” for the new oxygen to come in.
Feeling super full even at the smallest of meals.
I’ve had heartburn, and some doctors have said I had asthma, the other one that I didn’t, then that I was dealing with stress, and that’s what caused the shortness of breath, the other it said had to do with energy and other type carbonated drinks which I thought would be the closest to the problem.
But the effects are the opposite for me. When I workout, I feel great, and I’ve actually gained weight. I’m always hungry, so no loss of appetite, just feeling full after the first couple of bites.
I’ve started stretching and doing some other self treatments, but I’m getting officially checkout next month. Still going to follow these videos to see if I get better results.
the videos are advice , but theres not much you can do on your own other than the exc which only help a small subset of people with small hernias. The videos have tips , but if suffering with GERD and reflux still the ONLY SOLUTION is the REFLUX SHIELD, the product is a self help device that eases those symptoms. it will be out by the end of this year 2023!

Have GERD & Hiatal Hernia for 14 yrs. Now it’s affecting my breathing. I’m out of breath a lot. Did not realize it’s due to my hiatal hernia until I saw this video. The acid from having GERD is wrecking my teeth & gums. Didn’t realize either that it’s because I have a hiatal hernia my acid reflux. Saw several Doctors & gastroenterologists over my acid reflux GERD & they can’t explain why I have it. They just wanted me to take an acid blocker which I refused to take. I always wondered if the acid was because of my hiatal hernia because that’s when I got it. Gonna try these exercises. Hope it helps. I don’t know what else to do. This acid is miserable! Thank you for sharing this video!
@user-ro7lh3tu1f you cam try the hiatal her IA maneuver by going to refluxshield.com for a DIY device.
@@user-ro7lh3tu1f I’m much better. I found out it was more from a gluten issue causing my acid reflux heartburn GERD because when I slept through the night the acid heartburn went away & it immediately started back up after eating breakfast. So I looked at what I ate for breakfast which was eggs & toast. Eggs wouldn’t cause me acid heartburn. There was wheat in the bread. I had acid reflux heartburn all day that day. Next day I didn’t eat any bread & had eggs, bacon & vegetables for breakfast. I had no heartburn. I stayed away from any breads, rolls, buns with gluten in. I thought maybe it was the yeast in them until I ate other foods with no yeast but it had wheat in it & acid reflux heartburn GERD started up again. So now I have to read every nutritional label & make sure there’s no wheat in it. Funny how I even took a celiac test from my doctor & it turned negative. Those tests aren’t 100% accurate. I figured out my acid reflux heartburn GERD myself by trial & error with food. Now I’m 100% symptom free. Thank God! 🙏 That acid reflux heartburn is miserable! I’m surprised I didn’t have an ulcer or worse stomach polyps & stomach cancer from constant acid reflux heartburn for 14 yrs. My breathing issues I think was more my asthma probably because I’m allergic to wheat gluten because I don’t have breathing problems anymore & my asthma went away. I don’t need my asthma inhaler anymore. Thanks for asking. Hopefully you get some relief. Don’t know if you also have a gluten issue. My hiatal hernia is still there but doesn’t cause me any pain now because I fixed my diet & stopped eating anything with wheat in it. Maybe someday that hiatal hernia will heal up on its own. Good luck! Now I’m learning how to eat better. I can still have bread, buns, rolls, noodles I just make my own with almond or coconut flour instead of wheat flour. There’s some gluten free foods in the stores which is nice.
Can u come to Boston I need you. I’m waiting for your tool to be ready for purchase!

I have that problem, too. Lots of acid reflux laying down or bending down, have to drink lots of water with dry foods or it gets stuck down there, hard to get deep breaths, lost a lot of weight. Not that I minded getting skinnier, but it was a big difference unexplained. I have to breath just so, watch my posture and all, and if I'm moving around, then I can't get a deep breath until I stand still. I did some of the exercises that you've shown on this channel, the abdominal breathing, and where you press in under your breast bone and hold it, then press in and move down over your stomach. I was laying in bed and just used my finger for that. Even though it's not the full routine he gives in these videos, it definitely helped right away. I figure if I were to do this a couple of times a day regularly, who knows, it might fix the problem.
@@djanderson6531 Well, the posture and breathing practice is slowly helping. I keep forgetting to do the pushing on your stomach thing, but when I do it feels better. I had been in a car accident this Spring where I bruised up my stomach, and messed up my ribs and breastbone, and apparently shook up my insides pretty good! I'm slowly but steadily getting over all those problems. I had hiatal hernia before, but that made things much worse. Maybe I messed up my diaphragm some, too, since that's where I mainly hit the steering wheel. But anyways, practicing that deep breathing, trying to do it all the time - definitely seems to be helping with the stomach, with getting out of breath less and getting over it quicker. I think as the video said, it makes your diaphragm stronger. It's easier to get a deep breath that way now than it was at first.
hi any updates? are you still doing this one and did it really help you make feel better? I had to ask because I have hiatal hernia too.
@@belleramos18 It definitely did help, but I haven't been doing it very often. I think it's definitely worth doing, especially if you do it every day instead of now and then when you remember!

Eat slower, Chew your food better, or eat food that’s blended or soups. It sounds like maybe standing while you eat might help. And try our hiatal hernia exercises.
I’m suffering with the same. The shortness of breath makes me not even want to eat. Sleeping is awful, I have to hunch forward because I think it’s weakening my diaphragm and it’s been happening since 2017. I’m thinking of coming to see you. Can you do this HH repair on someone who is very overweight?
Same here. Try taking cabbage juice and celery juice, wheat grass juice powder(make sure it's wheat grass juice powder, juice has no fiber..not the same as wheat grass powder). And go on low carb diet and fasting.
Hi I am in the Uk I have been struggling with pain for years also eventually GP sent me for endoscopy and I have a hiatus hernia, I am currently in a lot of pain and have started to feel like it’s pulsating is this regular with hiatus hernia ? It’s scary I don’t experience to much reflux but I get a lot of pain radiating to my back also. If I was to see a chiropractor in England what is this procedure called and is it a specialist chiropractor who does this ? Here’s living in hope that I can get some help 🤞🤞
Yeah not all chiropractors do the hiatal hernia maneuver. But the stomach is attached to the spine via anterior longitudinal ligament that could be why your having back pain as it is related to posture. I would call the office and ask first before making an appt. Good luck! We have a self help tool coming out soon.
@@Synergywellnessny Thank you and I will look out for the self help tool 👍
Do you know someone from the philippines who knows this procedure? Thank you
I get espogitis spasms from my hiateal hernia
you didn't notice that one of his hips is slightly displaced from the socket
Over three decades ago, a medical doctor misdiagnosed me as having ulcers. I took me a couple of years for me to realize I had GERD, not ulcers. It took more time to figure out how I caused it, and then come up with a cure. There is a sphincter muscle between the esophagus and stomach. There is another sphincter muscle where the esophagus passes through the diaphragm. When the two sphincters line up, gastric acids cannot backflow into the esophagus. If the two sphincters don’t line up, it usually means part of your stomach has been pulled or pushed up past the diaphragm into the chest cavity. With just the one sphincter, stomach acids push up into the esophageal area to cause heart burn, esophageal cancer, and even chemically erode your teeth.
My solution was to drink 2-3 glasses of cold water first thing in the morning, and then jumping up and down for several minutes to shake or jolt the now heavy stomach back down to its proper position. Cold water prevents rapid stomach emptying. Doing the procedure in the morning means you have the rest of the day for gravity to help you adapt the stomach to its now lower position. You may have to repeat the procedure a few times on successive mornings. It may take a while for the esophagus to stretch a bit and the stomach to get used to its new correct position,
Suppression of stomach hydrochloric acid is not a good solution. You need the acid and other chemicals to break down proteins into amino acids so they can be reused to build muscles, and collage which is literally used everywhere in the body (eyes, hair, blood vessels, bone, teeth, etc).
Thank you @Osman Vincent, great explanation- I will try your method to see if it works for me.
@@Stampingerms any progress?
@@iveywebb44 I have had to go into hospital, as I had too much pain, due to my spine dislocating (it was already herniated) but I did manage to feel a bit better with my stomach. As soon as I get healed with my spine, I will try this exercise again. Thank you for asking.
@@Stampingerms Jesus sorry to hear that. I have a cracked disc and hiatus hernia as well. The stretches i need to do for my spine worsens the hernia/reflux badly so it's been a catch 22 for me as well! Thanks for your update and hope you get well.
@@iveywebb44 sending you power of energy! Understand very well the catch 22 situation. Take care! Get well soon.
