    I'm an advanced sewer and I'm trying to get proficient at sewing swimwear. You're answering all the technique questions I've had for years that no one else on UA-cam has addressed. Thank you so much for being amazing 💖💖💖

    What would be the best sewing machine to make swimsuits like this?

    • @mangocoastpatterns
      @mangocoastpatterns  Рік тому

      Hello Yana, you will definitely need a serger and also a regular sewing machine. For a serger, I highly recommend the babylock vibrant and for regular sewing machine, any babylock or brother machine will do. 😃

    If I were just using this to make a thong I wouldn’t need the elastic and I could just sew the front and back pieces together, right?

      @mangocoastpatterns  Рік тому +1

      Hi Nina, for the thong version, you still need the elastic for the front pieces and the waist of the back piece. 🤍

    Can you use a zigzag/overlock stitch if you don’t have a serger?

      @@mangocoastpatterns If I use the zig zag stitch do I sew so the one side of the stitches go off the fabric or keep the whole stitch on the fabric? (I hope that made sense)

      @@kristaarman Hello Krista, keep the whole stitch on the fabric. 💕

    What if I only have a sewing machine?

    • @mangocoastpatterns
      @mangocoastpatterns  Рік тому

      If you only have a sewing machine, use a zig zag stitch to replace the overlock stitch. 🤍

    You did not say at what seam allowance you are sewing the 1/4 inch rubber elastic. If the actual seam allowance is to be 1/4 inch, and the elastic is 1/4 inch wide, do you start stitching in the middle of the elastic within the seam allowance? Or do you sew the elastic over the 1/4 inch seam line, so that half of the elastic ends up in the seam allowance and 1/2 ends up in the finished garment? I am a very experienced seamstress, and I do not find written directions with the purchased pattern. Nor am I able to tell exactly what you are doing in this video. Without written directions, there needs to be more explanation in your tutorial.

      Hello! The seam allowance is noted on page 3 of the instructions pdf, it’s a 1/4 inch seam allowance. I sew the elastic over the 1/4 inch seam. Let me know if you have any more questions! 🤍

    Do you stretch either the elastic at all as you sew? Or are they seen on one to one?

    • @mangocoastpatterns
      @mangocoastpatterns  2 роки тому +3

      Hello, I don’t stretch the elastic as I sew, I apply it with zero tension, which means no pulling or stretching. 🤍
