My understanding of ultra baroque is that it's a synonym for Churrigueresque, the strand of baroque that was popular both in Spain and New Spain en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churrigueresque
My goodness. "Ultrabaroque" is right...
There's so much detail and beauty to appreciate, but at a distance like this... it's too much. It feels more chaotic than elegant.
It was a bit overwhelming in person.
@@smarthistory-art-history I bet! I'd still love to see it up close and appreciate all that went into it, but oof. Too much of a good thing. 😅
Visually, 'ultrabaroque' is meant to conjure up the imagery of a an entire wall going up in flames, the flames of religion burning with the combustible passion of an undying faith. When you look at it from that perspective, it all makes perfect sense. As they say, context is everything. Cheers! 💗💗
