Hey, to prevent your "Pappe" from dying at a stop, use the choke which is located on the left bottom of the steering wheel, pull it out completely when you start your Trabant and push it slightly in when the engine gets warmer. When the engine reached it's normal temperature, push it in completely. Your Trabant should not stall again if you do everything correct ;)
If hat film did more of these top gear style vids they could easily surpass 800k subs, it would make a nice fresh change to their predominantly gaming UA-cam format too :)
sooo..... 1966 Morris Minor owner here to clear up some confusion.... you sorta all are kind right, so yea if they were fitted when the car was made then yes the car must still have some, however if they werent supplied with the car originally then you don't require them to be installed (some people like to keep their motor 'original')... however if they have been mounted and don't work then it is illegal to not wear them or have broken ones. (UK) Edit: This is literaly the east German car that gave communism a bad name. Also... yes it is still a bad idea i have only driven once with a friend in the back with no seatbelts, shout out to Pete Bone the brave bastard.
Because he bought the SUV one instead of going full cock and getting a Boxster or a 911, I'd say it's at least halfway reasonable, since it shows that he's thinking of those around him as well. Of course I've always thought of the Cayenne as sort of a 4-wheeled paradox because a Porsche owner looking out for other's needs and not just their own sounds like a punchline to me.
What do you actually call one of those haircuts? I think it looks pretty good. Maybe not on a 30 year old dad but still. EDIT: Tbh It looks pretty good on Turps as well so I take back the 'no 30 year old dad' thing.
I've had people in the back of my car, insurance companies/police/MOT center's are fine with it. I know people with pre war cars that have no seatbelts at all
Good choice of car Turps personally I'd have went with a Range Rover if I were to go down SUV route but I prefer saloon or estates. Some genuine advise from a mechanic of 12 years if anyone who knows him sees this point this out, keep that oil topped up before the warning light comes on I don't want you stuck with a seized engine or it to go bang. If your burning oil (not leaking) try adding stop smoke to the oil for a cheap fix (it's a thick oil additive almost like jelly that seals up smaller leaks in valves etc) you'll prob need two bottles for engine size. Add to hot engine then take a good long blast, that should stop it burning oil, engine work on a Porsche will be pricey.
Really? Some of their best content from a couple years back was GMod TTT with these guys + Sips. Great videos. If you like the dynamic between these guys, check those videos out. Sips only adds to the chemistry.
also the problem with the engine is probably not the flooding, but you need to disconnect ventilation tube from carb. apparently engine has seen its best days and to much exhaust is getting into carb through there. it will be fine with ventilation disconnected, but it need to point away from the cabin (somewhere downsy).
As someone who drove a 4 stroke 90's version of the Trabant, from Budapest to Amsterdam over three days, we had our own set of problems beyond the ones you had, like autobans where people were doing 100+ mph while we were only brave enough to overtake the slowest of lorries (could barely push past 70mph) top lel lads, keep up the great work!
Awesome, great seeing a Trabant in the UK. A car made in the country I was born in and that doesn't exist anymore...love it!!! Born in the GDR, born in the GDR...
The Trabi probably cut off because the fuel level in the carburator was too high, I had this problem, too. If you leave the choke on for longer than necessary it could happen. My solution is to close the fuel supply with the button, and pump the gas as long as it's running with the fuel left in the carburator. Then it can be started normally, and won't cut off at every stop. Have fun driving it! :)
use furniture spray pollish to get the seatbelts working again - spray the belt when it is out and then feed it back into the mechanism and it should stop sticking.
The thing about the Trabant is iirc you can't take the gas pedal off while going down hill for example. That may apply when stopped too, so you might have keep a bit on the throttle while holding the brake to keep it running or something like that.
you can if you are in 4th gear as it has a free wheel gear.. by the sounds either the air mix is wrong or there is a blockage in the idle circuit/needle.
Never worked on a Trabant specifically but there should be a idle screw on the carburetor. Sometimes though in the case of two strokes, there can be a low and high speed control instead, in this case the low speed adjustment is too low.
Great video guys, so freaking funny! WOW, that damn car was like a brake down machine, that is the worst to have your car stall out like that in traffic over and over. Man...that is some kind of patience! Keep up the great videos!
Iavbag I don't mind watching the old stuff with turps, I'm sure some do and that's perfectly alright, but I honestly don't know how no one saw it coming. There's just so many "jokes" that definitely don't sit right now.
This feels like a Top Gear episode but even better because it's Hat Films and of course Turps.
except top gear would never have endorsed the Chelsea Tractors that both Smiff and Turps now own
Hat Gear. Or Top Hat.
AC GAMER Excuse you? Top Gear is holy to car people (not any more) but it was.
@GameZedd01 I don't know what you're on about. I've heard nothing but good things about their new Amazon show. People still love it.
+Creeper Jam I think he is talking about new top gear being trash not grand tour
red callipers add 25 HP each
Easily. Add racing stripes and your looking at an extra 100hp
So you can double the power of the Trabant with one caliper (I am aware that the Trabant has drum brakes if anyone wants to be anal).
INSERT ANAL VOICE: I believe you will find that actualy they have drums comprised of the best cheese the soviet union had to offer
East Germany. Not Soviet Union.
AnDay5zlebt East Germany was part of the Soviet Union.
Tom looks pretty damn suave in that jacket, not gonna lie.
I don't know what it is, but as soon as people start making videos for the yogscast, they become significantly more attractive.
I'd bang 'im
The chest hair really adds to it.
S1lm4r1l Tom is a beautiful man
hottest yog member 2k17
I would have thought Ricky Gervais could afford a newer Porsche than a 2004 Cayenne.
Efreeti Gotta budget for all the petrol

The sight of Turps, Tom & P Flax lifting the car around at the end was truly the highlight of this video. Thanks for this, brightened my day!
If hat film did more of these top gear style vids they could easily surpass 800k subs, it would make a nice fresh change to their predominantly gaming UA-cam format too :)
Ross is quite chill about the whole thing. I would be stressed and nervous every time it won't start after a stop!
*_GOPRO!!!! STOP RECORDING!!!!!!!11_*
not gonna lie this comment confused me for a bit, just got to the end of the video...makes sense now lol
Hahahaha. It worked perfectly! Thanks for letting me know, Andrew Curtin.
I loved that, it had me in tears
Not having seat belts in the back isn't illegal due to the age of the car is my understanding?
The Woodio Bros yeah, i think if it's classed as a classic car safety standards are quite low lol
I think the rule is: If the car was not originally manufactured with seatbelts, then you're not required to add them.
I'm pretty sure it's still illegal here in the uk if you're not wearing one, even if it's an old car. don't quote me tho

I can confirm this as an owner of a 1970 Morris Minor
if you see people running and carrying a trabant it means they are rushing to their destination
*buys a reasonable car for his family*
*shaves sides of head to restore cool bad boy look*
Emmanuel Andrews 4.5 litre twin turbo, Yeah reasonable.
Because he bought the SUV one instead of going full cock and getting a Boxster or a 911, I'd say it's at least halfway reasonable, since it shows that he's thinking of those around him as well.

4.5 liter twin turbo + shaved sides of the head.....sounds like stereotypical Douchebag phase to me.
What do you actually call one of those haircuts? I think it looks pretty good. Maybe not on a 30 year old dad but still.
EDIT: Tbh It looks pretty good on Turps as well so I take back the 'no 30 year old dad' thing.
The haircut is called "the fuckboi", actually
Pause at 12:21 - that que behind you guys LMAO! Definitely like an old Top Gear Episode!
Wouls love it if you kept us updated on any repairs or fun times, looks like an awesome little thing!
If the car wasn't made with seat-belts in the back you don't have to have them, its perfectly legal. my mini doesn't have any in the back either.
Ant Stott still doesn't mean you can/should sit in the back
I've had people in the back of my car, insurance companies/police/MOT center's are fine with it. I know people with pre war cars that have no seatbelts at all
Ant Stott Are you American?
DJsmithy1996 English
Have you ever spent any time around old cars? Pre 70s reg is so easy to MOT, dont legally require doors.
How do you double the value of a Trabant?
You put a banana in the back seat.
VintageTrollean lol
VintageTrollean put trott in the back seat
Robbie Messenger No I think Trott lowers the value of any car he comes into contact with
they're so polite in the UK, that happened in the US and people would be honking 2 seconds after the light changed.
we are so polite but we have some of the worst road rage in the world
Good choice of car Turps personally I'd have went with a Range Rover if I were to go down SUV route but I prefer saloon or estates. i surprisingly really enjoy the hat films turps combo and i really enjoyed this video

This feels oddly wrong with turps talking about his family ...
Wow what a thrill this video was, I live up the M5 from Bristol and they even drove past my junction wow how exciting.
Everyone is stating that it's legal for the backseat to not have seatbelts.
Guys, they were just trying to avoid getting in the car.
Fun fact: Eastern European countries don't require you to put the seatbelt on while in the back seat.
You guys drove round my hometown! Impressed that it made it that far
I'd love a Trabant. It's a great piece of history and a good story piece. (I enjoy Jalopy as well)
I know I love tribants so much i bought one
As someone who drove a 4 stroke 90's version of the Trabant, from Budapest to Amsterdam over three days, we had our own set of problems beyond the ones you had, like autobans where people were doing 100+ mph while we were only brave enough to overtake the slowest of lorries (could barely push past 70mph) top lel lads, keep up the great work!
7:26 didn’t age very well
True
😖😖😖😖😖😆
14:19 Omg! That's why I bought mine! I tried* to drive it home 1400 miles from Florida to Minnesota, had the vacation saved up and everything
5:00 where did Smith pull that from?
One of the funniest Hat Films videos I've ever watched! Keep it up, chaps!
damn, Tom looks good in a suit.
Awesome, great seeing a Trabant in the UK. A car made in the country I was born in and that doesn't exist anymore...love it!!!
Born in the GDR, born in the GDR...
i like turps rocking syndicate swag
this video was bloody gold!!!! nice one lads!!
Props to Ross for driving that thing like a champ!
This actually felt like one of those in-car BBC shows. Brilliant fun to watch.
AT 18:07 they pass the moving house again, going the other direction.
This was absolutely top banter guys! Amazing
unexpected full body shot of pflax
id watch hatfilms car vlogs everrrryyyy dayy
you should try to restore this/make it work better as a project
I had tears in my eyes everytime the car wouldnt start, loved this vlog !!!
WHY CAN'T HATFILMS BE THE NEW TOP GEAR!?
i absolutely love videos like these
Thought this was a mighty car mods episode for a minute.
NEED more of these hat film style top gear videos
Ah glorious Trabant..
Ugyanitt bojler eladó!
Nekem nem kell.Biztos lopott.
Do a car modding series and do up the car.
Or put a Subaru engine in it, that works too.
7:30 aged like milk
I'm so glad someone else had noticed it
Its like classic top gear, i want more of this in a series, Crap car challenge?
these new GTA graphics are nuts...
OMG THIS IS SO FUNNY! I loved it. you guys should do a series or something with it idk what, just do it pls!!
porsche cayenne turbo, the car you get during your mid life crisis but while you still care about your family.
Am I correct in thinking you have to keep revving two stroke motors when you're stopped, to stop them from cutting out?
My great-grandpa drove a Trabant and it set my standard for cars pretty low.
Big kudos to Ross, for driving that thing!!!
Love these car vlogs. Just makes me want a hat films top gear style show more and more
Still surprises me Turps is the CEO for the yogscast.
use furniture spray pollish to get the seatbelts working again - spray the belt when it is out and then feed it back into the mechanism and it should stop sticking.
all the breakdowns on the road gave me secondhand anxiety - how did Ross cope?!
The thing about the Trabant is iirc you can't take the gas pedal off while going down hill for example. That may apply when stopped too, so you might have keep a bit on the throttle while holding the brake to keep it running or something like that.

truly tradition to watch this a couple times a year
Never worked on a Trabant specifically but there should be a idle screw on the carburetor. Sometimes though in the case of two strokes, there can be a low and high speed control instead, in this case the low speed adjustment is too low.
GOPRO STOP RECORDING I never laughed so hard
I would so watch a whole series of videos in this format
TURP Gear **drops mic**
This vlog is amazing! Them shouting at the GoPro is exactly what I do with Siri when I'm driving my '99 Suzuki swift 😂
18:06 the house on a trailer that they passed by earlier
That's one of the most entertaining videos I've seen recently I have to say.
The Go Pro screaming is hilarious.
Oh snap! Didn't expect to see my hometown on a Hat Films V-Log.
The Trabant 😂 Great vid
yes! another episode of low budget Top Gear!
Loving Tom's chest hair.
13:30 such a mister bean view! Was waiting for the 3 wheeled car to fall over😂
When BBC cancels Top Gear, so Hat films has to pick up the slack.
Great video guys, so freaking funny! WOW, that damn car was like a brake down machine, that is the worst to have your car stall out like that in traffic over and over. Man...that is some kind of patience! Keep up the great videos!
When the cameras are worth more then the car
The huge line of cars behind them at the traffic lights though.
Yogscast and Hatfilms should host Top Gear now...
Class Video as per usual lads!
Pyrion looks like Michael, from Vsause.
This is my favourite type of video. So funny.
Nothing says "quality" like a pre-owned 10 year old Porsche. Maybe if Turps gets a bit more money he can get an 80's Lambo,
love that ending "GO-PRO!"
Too bad that other thing happened.
you guys should do these type of car vids more often, it's on par with the old top gear and grand tour
I would still watch HatFilms if they just made these Car Vlogs.
one of the best vids I've seen you lads do in a long time
The number plate for the Trabant isn't blurred.
VintageLJ something tells me they don't care if something happens to it.
12:53 you can see the Porsche plate
9:03 Haha, they were so excited, haha! This was so entertaining, and that ending was hilarious, hahaha XD
Toms looking posh AF!!!
I've only heard of this legendary car. To actually see someone drive it is... an experience XD.
Well that infidelity joke with turps sure didn't age well
Iavbag I don't mind watching the old stuff with turps, I'm sure some do and that's perfectly alright, but I honestly don't know how no one saw it coming. There's just so many "jokes" that definitely don't sit right now.
More of this, this content is superb!
Hat films, can you be the new top gear please!!!
I liked that more than your video game stuff! "Adventures in questionable cars"
A Trabi is a damn fine car!
you guys are slowly becoming Top Gear
-_- I love it
