Murray, I’m amazed that you’ve not been scooped up by a TV production company for your own terrestrial series. Have you ever been approached? You’re such a likeable bloke and a mine of information. Incredible how long you’ve been doing this, and quality never falters. Thanks for keeping my Wednesday nights interesting!
thanks Gav - never been approached - reckon they would also need to hire a subtitle expert at the same time though !!lol Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Got to agree. Murray’s videos and his personality would make for great TV. No doubt about it. But thankfully we get to see his great work right here on UA-cam. There’s nothing better than making a nice cuppa or even occasionally enjoy a glass of wine and watch Murray and enjoy the absolutely stunning beauty of all the wonderful places he goes to.
I've read the book Corrag and loved the way this story was told. Every time i walk in Glencoe i think about it. Perfect video to celebrate Halloween and learn more about Scottish folklore 🎃 😊
Brilliant Murray. Been following you for a few years now. Its this type of history that helps give Scotlands mountains and wild places that special atmosphere.
Such a fascinating look into the darker legends of Glencoe! The story of Corrag the Witch and her prophecies around the massacre really adds another layer of mystery to this hauntingly beautiful place. Perfect timing with Halloween around the corner - thanks for sharing these eerie tales of Scotland’s past! 🏔🔮👻
Loved that! Put on my Halloween lantern for atmosphere. I did a solo wild camp in Glencoe last year, at the bealach between Sgor a' Choise and Fraochaidh. I'd been planning the trip for a while, but the night before I was due to set off, I got totally spooked thinking about the Massacre, and could not sleep. At 4am I decided to abandon the trip. Finally got to sleep, woke at 10am and thought - I'm going! Had a great wee adventure, slept well in my tent and didn't see or hear any ghosts. 😄👻
ah - glad the ghosts didnt put you off lol TBH I have not heard many stories about ghost sightings in Glen Coe - if anywhere should have them it should be this place for sure !! Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Fantastic insight to the local folklore and superstitions, believe in it all myself, must of been harsh in the days and total respect them hardy souls.had to wait till today to watch,at st James last night watching us beat Chelsea, takes at lot miss me weekly ritual
It's funny how much a bit of hindsight helps to identify some foresight! A grand presentation Murray, and it's hardly ancient history - only 10 generations ago - I used to work with a MacDonald who still felt sore about it, wouldn't talk to any Campbell.
absolutely agree - I think I wouldve studied history if it was more relevant like this stuff (well at least local ish :))lol Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Ha no way - I've just started reading "Witch Light" which is all about Corrag. She is telling her story as she awaits execution. Brilliant video, something a wee bit different, absolutely fascinating and entertaining 👏 ❤️
It's a great book, very atmospheric with wonderful descriptions and a very interesting story. I live in Lancs and have read about the Pendle 'Witches' and came across this book about 6yrs ago, you'll not regret picking it up.
Well that's a different slant on your hillwalking. Awesome summary and synopsis Murray. I have really learnt something today. All the background noises just added to the story. Don't think I will drive down Glencoe quite the same again. Might explain why i have sensed a presence when camping in the upper reaches of the Lairigs before now though. Reckon you are just a call away from TV presenter status 😊
Thanks Lyndsey - just something a little different for Halloween some spooky tales - glad I never met her in the hills though!!lol Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Great story, my wife and I are heading up to that area in a weeks time so will be fascinating to relate the area to the story…thanks for that one, really enjoyed it👍
Jackanory with Murray! It's already Halloween where I am and I watched this on my own. Spooky stuff! I was in Glencoe on the 300th anniversary of the massacre but didn't know the Corrag story and her prophesies. Brilliant story telling and another fine production from Steaming Boots!
When I used to take groups out into the hills I would always try and learn as much as I could about the local folklore. The myths and legends of a place. All things which add to the enjoyment of a walk. This was really interesting. Thanks.
Hi Murray, absolutely brilliant, as they always say, why let the truth get in the way of a good story! 🤣 Loved that, and what a location to be able to tell it in. All the best 😀🥾⛰🏴
That “special effects” shot at 22:14, along with the banshee cries was proper scary! My husband really likes Scottish folklore, having a good bit of Scottish DNA himself. He absolutely loved this episode. Cheers, and ATB!
I love watching the vlogs you create. Glen Coe is one of my favourite places. Back in the 80's, the kids home i lived in decided that a group of us would pass through the Glen and camp at the head of Loch Leven. Rain clouds started building in the evening and by 2am we had to evacuate because we were flooding due to the biblical deluge! It was still a beautiful experience. One place i recall was going to signal rock and seeing the deer and a golden eagle high above.
Brilliant as usual and ideal for Halloween. Looked up the Corag. There’s some interesting information in a little book I bought from the Glencoe museum some years ago - “ Eileen Munda” by Barbara Fairweather. I’ve also read somewhere that just prior to the massacre that the Beinn Nighe ( washerwoman) was seen by the river washing a shroud! Anyway, Murray thank you for another great video A. T. B. Stay safe out there.🏴⛰️👏😀
Thanks Anne - so many stories around Glencoe that I was un aware of , I'll need toido some more reading and find out more :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray

I absolutely love hearing about myths and legends, this was no different (and have def read about and heard of the Glencoe Massacre). Great spooky stuff, this was fantastic (plus all the incredible views too), although was it absolutely necessary for you to do that type of editing to yourself at 10:53 and 22:23. Nice touch Murray! 🤣
Hi Murray, Sounds a lot like the Banshee in Ireland, which is said to be a spirit that appears to the individual of some family members prior to their death? It seems that this legend is found in all Celtic peoples.
Really enjoyed that story. That mountain was not listed as a Munro when I started my round of 277 Munro’s but was added in along with two other new listed munro’s in Glencoe on the last year of my completion to 284 Munro’s. And indeed my last Munro was Stob Coire Screamhach a newly listed Munro. Another good video. Thank you.
thanks Ron , I wonder when the next Munro will be added or deleted as measuring technologies improve with time !!lol When I started it was 284 - so it has become slightly easier;) lol Thanks for watching ATB Murray
Cracking video. It can get spooky up the hills sometimes. The washerwoman is a bean nighe. They wash the clothes of those that are about to die. The wailing is because they are a type of ban sith. In Scottish folklore the sith arent your cute kind of fairies. The baobhan sith are basically vampires.
Something a bit different indeed! Very spooky tale, recounted perfectly with the back drop of the hauntingly beautiful Glen Coe. There is definitely an Eiry atmosphere that haunts the Glen to this day. We think a lot of people feel it. It was fascinating to hear about Corrag the Witch and he prophecies around the events of the Glencoe massacre. This was a perfect Halloween evening watch! 🎃👻👌
I came down that way once from the Buachaille and remember it was very boggy at the bottom. I recall reading a story of the "Cailleach" witch or maybe thats a different Glen Coe story.
Great Halloween ghost 👻 story Murray. I don’t want to alarm you but while you were walking in the dark I noticed some eyes 👀 in the background watching you woo! 😂😂
Murray honestly you need a Netflix deal or something. You’re really personal with your videos. It feels like I’m sitting at a campsite round the fire with a whisky sharing stories. Can’t wait to get a camper-van and follow in your footsteps.
While hiking, I've never felt spooked in Glencoe. However, think Gleann na Fhiodh at Ballachulish definitely has eerie atmosphere - In same year (1692) and similar to events at Glencoe. Troops from garrison at Fort William also turned-out inhabitants at Loch Rannoch during the night. Dwellings of McDonald of Dalchonzie burned. (A History of Rannoch, A D Cunnigham). Blimey - I was just thinking the same thing !! Too much TV is over produced and it loses the sense of being there. Murray for TV !!
I've read the book Corrag and loved the way this story was told. Every time i walk in Glencoe i think about it.
Perfect video to celebrate Halloween and learn more about Scottish folklore 🎃 😊
I’ll need to have a look for the book - didn’t realise there was one - but a few have mentioned it now - must find it :)

But the prophecy came true. Glencoe was flooded - in the Harry Potter film 'Prisoner of Azkaban. Hogwarts and Hagrid's hut were just up from the Clachaig. In some aerial shots they CGI'd in water across the whole glen. So they 'sort of' didn't finish the crossing of Loch Etive and they 'sort of' flooded Glencoe.
any tips for glencoe? never been and im going there by bus soon to do some photography! scared im going to get lost haha

Were they fighting over the rites to make soup 😅😅.
Is that true? The bit about the dredger and finding the sword?
It you are looking for ghosts look no further than Allt na Feithe
I've seen some weird things on the hills and I think most people keep it to themselves to avoid ridicule.
That’s amazing I never knew that, about the witch she sounded like a good witch. Never trust a Campbell
watch out for the ghost of Saville!
I can never remember the glen, not sure if you know which one it is? The glen that has cannibals living near by in old mines that eat wild campers ;).
Love history.
The McDonald's being massacred by the Burger king's.
On a serious note, colonial massacres continue till today, nothing changes😢
unfortunately true :(
