- The Müller etudes are a great way to stay in shape, or get into shape on an instrument that you haven’t played in a while. After doing lots of work on my high clarinets the next phase of work involves a lot of bass, d’amore and basset horn, so generally lower things. The Müller etudes are tonal but deceptively challenging. So if you’re bored of Rose, Baermann and Uhl, jump on Petrucci and download the 22 Etudes by Johann Müller!
I play a Selmer Privilege bass, Concept mouthpiece, V21 reeds, Rovner dark ligs, Blashaus necks and mods. Ask me about them if you’re curious.
Like all my videos, this was recorded in one take and is unedited.
That is some of the quietest keywork I have ever heard on a Selmer Privilege.
Thanks, but my instrument is due for an overhaul this year so hopefully it’ll be better soon.
This is what the bass clarinet is supposed to sound like, bravo and well done!
Thanks!
Sweet and lovely bass clarinet sound !
Congratulations !
What a lovely tone! Just really impressed how beautiful this sounds.... and so free and easy and effortless. Wow!
Thanks Scott! An etude a day keeps mediocrity at bay. Possibly.
This sounds exquisite
thank you for sharing your music with the world! :')
This is awesome! I’d love to have your tone quality!
Thanks! Practice long tones, slow scales & arpeggios to build your sound.
How do you get it to speak so beautifully 😭😭😭 I’m so jealous I wanna play like you. What read do you use? Maintenance routine?
Lots of long tones and tonguing practice helps but it won't happen overnight. Consistency and regular practice will. Find a setup that works for you: everyone is different. Bear in mind that bass clarinet keywork can be notoriously out of alignment and so make sure that whatever instrument you are playing is well maintained.
Nice!
Thanks Bjorn!
Great playing as always! I thought you play on the silver Blashaus, not the gold one? Or am I seeing things here?
PS Curious of how you're finding the V21 reeds?
I play on the gold one, never owned the silver. V21 reeds are great, I think. Reeds are as ever a very personal thing. I would say try them, but you might not like them.
@@RichardElliotHaynes.clarinetActually I've tried them many times and they're currently one of my favorite reeds on bass, but I dislike them on Bb. I also own the very last Series 2 Silver Blashaus neck available on my somewhat-less-modified Selmer Privilege
@@RichardElliotHaynes.clarinet PS Thought I saw that older vid of yours with that silver Blashaus on your bass 2 years back?
I feel the same. I use V21 on Eb, basset horn and bass only.
It must've been filmed when I was trying it out.
I’m a bass clarinetist too and I could honestly never do this 😭
Just keep practicing: you can play any clarinet etude on bass clarinet!
Please tell me how to play a higher key note on bass clarinet I’m struggling
What exactly do you mean by a “higher key note”?
Is that by chance the Selmer model 33 with extended range to low C?
Thanks for your comment! It’s a Selmer, but the Privilege model, to low C. All professional standard bass clarinets are built to low C.
Nice! Can you do careless whisper
George Michael on bass clarinet? Not really my cup of tea.
@@RichardElliotHaynes.clarinet Idk, sax and clarinet sound somewhat similar to me. why cant you play it on a clarinet?
It's not a question of "if" I can play it on clarinet, but "why" would I play it. It's just not my cup of tea, but thank you for the suggestion.
heeey uuuuh wanna give us your arm workout routine????
Hey thanks, I don’t really feel qualified to offer advice on working out… I mainly just go with my instincts and a wide variety of types of weights.
QuaL a marca desse instrumento?
Selmer Privilege
Is that a low C bass????
Yes, most classical players that play bass clarinet own a low C bass clarinet because the orchestral, chamber and solo repertoire demand this kind of range.
