9:30 - It’s a good thing the skin on your hands is 80% cyanoacrylate, that’s gonna help keep the mess down when that drilling technique reaches its inevitable conclusion.
I do custom 1:64 die cast vehicles such as hot wheels or matchbox, one of the steps is drilling out the two or more rivets on the bottom, one time while using a method similar to his I slipped and drilled into my hand, had to put it into reverse to get the bit out , please keep your hands and use a vise :)
All he gotta do is superglue a handful of chainsaw shavings from different colored wood. In fact, he could do a 20,000 tree pen with a sheet of notebook paper and a couple oz of superglue.

The labor alone, in the US, is at least $1250. Add in expenses and retail markup and it would be much more than that. However, I suspect that if mass production, even by hand, was the goal, jigs and the use of less skilled labor for some steps could cut the cost considerably. Either way, beautiful pen.

Another couple of weeks and the lathe will be here and workshop (micro) ready..and retirement a reality... @@JamesGarwood I have a shopsmith mark 5. I have a chuck for it. Need a good live center and more lathe tools. Want to also get the plates for the chuck to do bowls. Eventually I will get a new lathe. The ol shop Smith has play in the spindle that cant be taken out.

Makes amazing 1000 segment laminate and burl pen blank, uses 4.99 chrome pen kit from Rockler... Im not knocking your work, that blank is amazing, but the choice of pen kit kills me. I use those quite a bit, they're good kits, but it seems like that blank deserved a higher end click pen kit.
Oh, that's cool then. It looks exactly like the chrome pen kit from Rockler. Im sure there's a bit of color variation between chrome and platinum, but I can't really tell. Either way, the pen blank craftmanship was top notch. Not anything i could even come close to yet. I subbed just after this video alone. **edit** 9:38 is the time stamp for that. Rhodium kit. That is the more expensive kit in that line. And they are handsome pens, no doubt. I tend to use Vertex click pens in gun metal because it's a little nicer looking kit, but is also the same tube length and almost exact same bushing size as that twist pen kit, which allows me to make pen barrels and then choose what kit to attach to it.
This gives me all sorts of warm and fuzzy memories of making my first pen out of a ram's horn. The ink has long since run dry, and I can't find any replacement, but it's my pride and joy :)
