I don't cut or color my hair (it's gray). I don't wear makeup. I don't color my nails. I use basic soap and water for washing. I wear the same clothes for years. My husband says I'm beautiful and that's the only opinion I care about. One of the blessings of aging. You stop caring about the opinions of others. :-)

I cut my own hair, I don't wear make-up or fancy beauty products. I don't get my nails done. I buy my clothes second hand and look for deals. Garage sales are nice as well. I buy food on sale when I can. I also enjoy going on outings that are free or inexpensive as well. I also enjoy upcoming events that the community hosts. I enjoy free UA-cam and other inexpensive subscriptions like Roku tv. I cook from home and budget my outings.

I know everyone unfortunately can’t afford to do this, but I recently put solar panels on my roof. My energy supplier had a deal going so I took advantage of it. It took two days to install and around a week for the scaffolding to come down. The newer panels and battery packs in my garage are very efficient and so far even without that much sun my electric bill has gone from around £170 a month to less than £50 so far. I will also be receiving a small payment for overflow power being sent back to the national grid. Not sure exactly how much yet, but that will also help recoup a little money each month from now on. I love checking the App to find out that I’ve not paid a penny for power used that day and the battery is 100 percent full. I get a lot more excited when the sun shines nowadays.😂

    • @getmotivated1707

Great video. We are all seeking for financial independence and a better way of life. This is not difficult to achieve with savvy investing, a frugal lifestyle, and cautious budgeting. I'm glad I learned early on to work hard for financial independence. As Warren Buffet said, he has seen this happen many times in his life. Not an investor, My husband and i never earned more than a middle class salary. We plan to get retired at 58 with a stock portfolio worth $1.7M. We have never sold so much as one share of stock.

I totally agree; I am 66 years old, recently retired, with approximately $1.2 million in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, I didn't do all this alone, but with the help of a financial advisor. Having one is currently the best way to trade in the stock market, especially for people nearing retirement.

Another money reducer we practice is line drying our clothes. (I understand line drying is normal in many countries outside the US and even in some places inside the US.) I have a three-ring recipe binder as well. My hack is that as I make the recipes I move them to the front of the section. (I only have two sections- savory & sweet). Then I can easily see what I'm making the most and I purge the recipes at the end of each year. I love taking out recipe books from the library and then I just photocopy what I want to keep in my binder. The Internet is (obviously) my other resource for printing recipes.

    • @trinam2503
      @trinam2503 5 місяців тому

I used to have about 20 recipe books. I realized I only made 2 or 3 out of each book, and I frequently made changes or substitutes for family allergies or preferences. So I typed each recipe I actually used into a word document, added a section for what each family member liked different and a section for additional notes. I also added all our family recipes that have been handed down w the same additional sections and used a 3 ring binder and page protectors. Then I sold all the cookbooks. My family loved this idea so much, I have printed several copies. Anytime I find a new recipe to try, it goes in the front of the book and stays there until it has been cooked a few times and either discarded or deemed worthy of being placed on the proper category.

The cost of a van for a half day or day is often cheaper than 2 or 3 delivery fees, its good to group stuff. Like if you have friends ir family who need big items, arrange a day to collect everyones stuff and chip in. I combine taking large items to the dump too, often someone has a big thing they want rid of, but one item isnt worth the hassle.

Sometimes it’s also good to check where you can space things out more rather than give them up, eg a haircut every 12 weeks rather than every 8. Biggest money saver for me was giving up my vehicle. I’m a member of a car sharing club if I need access to one and I got a basic folding e-bike that lets me get around town for distances that are a bit far to walk regularly (who has the time!) and it’s size versatile enough that my kids can use it too.

If it costs you more than 99p to get to the supermarket and back in your vehicle, then start ordering online. Ocado currently charges that for deliveries most days after 10pm onwards in my area. They price check with other stores and give you Vouchers to make up for it on your next shop if items are cheaper elsewhere. There is also the benefit of sticking to your list and not buying impulse buys at the stores. They also have online deals/offers. It saves me money and time.

Make an agreement with family members that you either do not need to buy expensive presents for birthdays, Christmas etc. that probably are unwanted or unused ( set a spend limit) ….or alternatively don’t buy presents at all. Bring some food or drinks along and have a picnic. Time spent with loved ones and friends is way more valuable than a costly present. Some elderly people can’t afford to buy presents for all their kids and lots of grandkids, set them free from the burden.

I added a window box outside my dining room window and filled it with herbs and nasturtiums ( from seed) and other edible plants with flowers like Tulbaghia. It looks beautiful and the more you snip the herbs, the bushier they seem to grow. Nasturtium leaves are delicious and peppery on a sandwich. You can also cut the herbs and dry them out to use for winter time. Some herbs like mint will spread and grow back year after year.

Without a doubt, this year will be worse than the previous one. I lost a lot of money last year as a result of bad investment choices that I would not have made if I hadn't been so worried about my portfolio. I kept investing, but I wasn't sure if I should start paying for a house. My jobs were eventually sold, and the house needed more maintenance than I had thought. I don't know how much longer I can carry on like this.

We've all made mistakes at some point. You should consider financial planning

True. My portfolio was diversified across several markets with the help of a financial planner, and were able to achieve over a million in net profit among high dividend yield equities, ETFs, and bonds. It is vital that you have a variety of exposure, including in firms that are currently generating cash flows.

I removed my like when you referred to "dollars". We have pound sterling in the UK not dollars. Best wishes

Does that mean you won't apply the principle and save yourself some pounds Sterling?

I believe this advice is for everyone. I live in Canada and don’t get upset when someone refers to money in a different word. Please this is not to be rude or judgmental, just a thought to think about. Bless you.
