- The creative community has never been so productive, while it has never been more difficult for projects to get signed. In today’s competitive creative markets, are artists’ managers in charge of artists’ development? Are we witnessing a transfer of risks, both entrepreneurial and financial, towards the manager? Are managers the new entrepreneurs, setting up and managing labels, publishing companies, organising tours for up-and-coming new acts? This session will spotlight the new challenges that the artists’ managers are facing in this new 360° business model.

Ron Stone, I wish that I had possessed the good sense and maturity to recognize your expertise enough to listen to you and follow your direction in1975, instead of listening to my own short-sighted logic. In retrospect, I see that you were indeed a visionary then, as you are today. I would have certainly ended up with a career in the music biz that I let slip through my fingers - I enjoyed your excellent presentation in this forum!

How is this woman, an ARTIST MANAGER not agreeing with Ron that Spotify is ripping off artists and rights holders?? It's like she's disagreeing just to disagree. Spotify needs to compensate fairly, the more users argument is absurd.
You need to understand it from the perspective of Spotify's business model. People keep talking about how much money they make but as a business they're consistently making a loss of $1billion. She's right that the solution is to get more users on the platform.
The other DSPs pay out a bit more than Spotify but that's because they're propped up by some of the biggest companies in the world (Apple and Amazon) who can afford to make a loss for now without the risk of crashing

I'm glad they both came from different approaches because it gives you a fuller perspective but I found that Emily seemed very combative and arrogant, while Ron seemed very defensive after her "sleazy" comment. Regardless, I would prefer to listen to Ron any day because he has so much more experience and less to prove than Emily.

I am really tired of looking for these people hidden and speechless. I am totally broken inside. I make, write, create and produce my music, my image, I have my ideas; but managers and Record Labels are so impossible, all by payment.

In regards to Spotify, I believe that they settled a class-action copyright lawsuit in 2017.
This could have been a lot more impactful if Emily wasn't constantly on the defensive, her insecurities are on display, it's sad. I learnt a lot regardless.
