    Good job NICE RATCHET! - I would recommend to everyone that you leave the fill plug open while the engine is on. Fluid will return back out the fill when it’s shut off, so you should screw the fill plug on when the engine is at temp and the gears gone through. Also- I recommend removing the fill plug first. If you can’t get this off, then having a pan without fluid is a different kind of problem. When you remove he fill plug first, you will have fluid drain out - this is the fluid that would otherwise be in the system if the car were running mentioned in my first comment above.

    I can appreciate your video , however, you have done this procedure somewhat incorrectly !! First of all !! Everyone who may do this needs to make sure they specifically make sure that both of the drain and fill plugs are loosened first , this is most important because if they fill plug can not be loosened then you have created a massive issue to where you will not be able to fill the fluid back up inside the trans pan !! Always and I mean ALWAYS CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR FILL PLUG LOOSENS FIRST!! Not the drain plug , drain plug don’t matter if the fill plug can’t be removed to fill it up !

    Also another wrong method , when running through the gears after changing any transmission fluid you should always leave it in each gear for 10 seconds at least or even more !! This is bad practice to just go through gears so fast !! Leave it in reverse for 10 seconds , drive 10 seconds and so forth , you are not allowing the fluid to circulate enough

      Bought the car in Philadelphia (1.5hr drive) and was able to drive it home twice from Philadelphia, loved the car.
      Drove it for about 3 weeks. Noticed the quick 3rd gear shift but it still drove fine. When the issue occurred I was told by someone it could be a blocked screen or filter after the radiator was take out. Maybe low fluid? Maybe the 3rd gear issue put me into limp mode (excessive clutch slippage code). Or maybe the trans fluid is low. Otherwise idk

    The problem with this procedure is that you have only changed the amount of fluid in the pan, which may be as little as 20 - 25% of the total. The torque converter etc will still contain old dirty fluid. The reason for this (and why there is no dip stick for the auto) is that the manufacturer wants you to dispose of the car once it has done over 100,000km or so and buy a new one. There is a way to change all of the oil and it is disappointing that most "professionals" including this one do not employ it.

    • @MrMtm13
      @MrMtm13 5 років тому

      There is roughly 6 liters in the pan/filter and 2-3 in the converter. If you want to make sure to get most of the fluid out, you can do this pan drop procedure, and replace approximately 65% of the fluid and a few weeks later change the oil one more time WITHOUT dropping the pan... This way you will have almost 90% new fluid overall. My math may be wrong though :)

    • @InFalini
      @InFalini 5 років тому

      @THAILEI REBEL I agree, however I've noticed that the best mechanics dont like to film.

    • @coache1nine
      @coache1nine 4 роки тому +2

      If you want it done properly, take it to a dealer or trans shop and have the fluid flushed. That way, all the old fluid, even in the converter, is removed. On higher mileage vehicles, a trans flush is highly discouraged. However, a pan drop, or drain and fill is acceptable on vehicles without shifting issues. As far as VW, wanting buyers to get a new car every 100k, that may be true from a sales perspective, but considering the millions of VW's on the road with over 200k, that's not likely.
