I was looking forward to Erste's Christmas ad, because they have done a nice Christmas ad every year so far. So far. This ad is anything but Christmas.

Sorry to hear that you didn't like this years spot. We actually on purpose tried to go in a different direction with this spot to reach also the people that do not like christmas or the typical christmas ads. 😊

I do feel sorry to tell you, but I feel it necessary. This was a mistake. Previously you showcased a superb understanding of how to warm one's heart - truly. Your ads reminded of what's truly important, and, well, what is true. In these days we don't get these reminders often. Christmas is importantly one season for these reminders - doesn't matter, that some people do not celebrate it. Christmas brings Hope and Love for all. Why take it away by trying to cater ,, broader audiences"...? Is it worth stripping away the warmth of the heart...?

We do understand that Christmas can be heartwarming and emotional. This year we decided to simply go for a more fun approach. The message is still a strong one: Be who you want to be - believe in yourself.
Think about it this way: After all those years Rudolf worked for Santa and carried the heavy sledge around the whole word. This year he decided to break free and go for an adventure and wins a whole Rodeo. 🐎

One of the best ads I've seen. It deserves to win the Cannes Lions, but like most masterpieces it is unlikely to be highly appreciated by the average consumer.

This ad cannot compare to those from previous years. It brings no emotions. There is hardly anything people from the markets where Erste operates could relate to. Cowboys, rodeo, reindeers, sand instead of snow. This ad could be taken and used by any organisation just by adding their logos at the end. I would say that no advertising would be better than this. This somehow shows disinterest and lack of understanding of the cultural environment where Erste operates.
Thanks for your feedback. Our video might not be the classic christmas video but that is the whole point. The complete difference to the the countries we operate in and the difference to the typical christmas video is an example that Rudolf can do anything, as long as he believes in himself. 😊

@@ErsteGroupBank Was mich daran stören soll? Ja wohl einiges. Bin als Erste Bank Kunde empört! Ein gutes "Christmas-Advertisement" animiert man mit Herzensblut und schönem berührenden Momenten. Sowas ist lieblos/gottlos gemacht worden und nach meiner Ansicht hingerotzt. Ich hätte mir wenigstens einen schönen Abschluss gewünscht... und zwar mit einer guten Christmas Ad. Jetzt ist dies auch vermasselt worden.

Why doesn't it make any sense? Rudolf breaks free from pulling the heavy sledge of Santa and experiences a little adventure. By believing in himself he wins a Rodeo. Simply don't take the ad to seriously. 😉
So let me understand: Rudolf breaking free from dragging a fat man and to celebrate he lets another bunch of man settle him (a symbol of freedom right?) AND THEN another guy comes to try and ride him!!!

I'm not a client of Erste Group, however, I'm a fan of your Christmas Ads. I have to say, I personally didn't like your approach this year, but hey, I understand what you tried to do going for broader audiences. Any way, despite of personal taste or the approach you followed, the success of any ad is based on the results it brings. I do have to say just by reading the comment section, that it looks like the message does not resonate with a good part of your audience. Was it worth it? Did you really connect with broader audiences? Impossible for me to tell. But hey, keep up the work! And hopefully this year's ad is even better.
Hey, thanks for your detailed reply. Overall we are happy with the results. It was clear for us that this campaign won't be loved by everyone, but we still wanted to give it a try and to do something different. You shouldn't forget that people rather like to complain on the internet than give compliments. That's always something that you have to keep in mind while reading comment sections.
