Always glad to see someone discover this. Also, whatever film grain effect you have going on is rad. To answer your genre question, its punk rock but I always considered bands like NOFX to be skate punk. They have a lot of good shit from the 90s and 2000s. I'd recommend checking out some of their live stuff from the 90s or the live stream they did from the bass player/singer's house in 2020 (ua-cam.com/video/lkcFSjRrdRY/v-deo.htmlsi=En2zL0f_nUtP_V0v&t=1375), they are very fun on stage.

You had it almost right, this came out in 99, so was being worked on a bit before that. It and much of NOFX's music shaped the early 2000's.

As silly as this sounds, you made my week, my month... I have had such a bad few weeks and introducing you this song and watching you enjoy it brings so much joy to me. I LOVE introducing people to new music. What I love about it is that there is no music video but the music creates a video for you in your head, its hard to believe that some one can sit there for almost 20 minutes and listen to one song with no video.
Fat Mike(lead singer) wrote a punk rock musical a few years back called "Home Street Home" that is surprisingly good, the music is phenomenal the story is very strange and most definitaly can be off putting for some and i cant say i agree with the everything in it but its great regardless of the topic.(can be found here on YT if interested).
Some of your old references are hilarious but silly at the same time. I will link you the interview the Fat mike did about the song, its REALLY long interview and done in 2 part but if you want you can listen to it over a few days, ect or not listen at all, I don't care. The lyrics are extremely deep and hard to explain in a comment section over text.

One is another from NOFX, its MUCH MUCH shorter but a very good track none the less, its about 2 people (boy and girl) who grew up together and "explored" things together sexually at a young age, later on he grows up, sees her in a porno and feels bad for her lifestyle and then a woman sings the second (or 3rd) verse and explains why she does what she does(kinda). The second is from a band called Dead Kennedys and its about the war in Cambodia and a play on Americans idolization of the war and how good Americans have it but don't notice or care.
