There is such joy in the song, and the video has a hilarious combination of DIY and godzilla influence. Is it any wonder Kurt Cobain described himself as a "screaming schoolgirl" when he first heard their music?
Real easy considering the bands that were dominating were the same ones in the US like Kiss and Black Sabeth. So an American'ish styled band fit right in and these girls still preform to this day.
i sat here wondering for the longest why i loved this band while i detest basic and unneeded lyrics, then i remembered they were a ramones cover band as well, that's when it dawned on me. THEY'RE MINDLESS PUNK!!!
Vengo por una publicación de una pagina dedicada a kurt cobain donde en esa publicación subieorn fotos donde sale kurt sosteniendo una playera de esta banda sin duda kurt le sabia a la buena musica ❤
Ever hear their late '80s album "Pretty Little Baka Guy"? This song is from it, as well as the original version of "Riding on The Rocket": ua-cam.com/video/lzhnBLqO9rk/v-deo.html
This is what happened when you put Pink Lady, Siouxsie And The Banshees and The Shaggs in a blender. I have no idea if this is bubblegum pop, slyly satirical punk or just well intentioned nonsense. Genius.
Awesome that they want to go to Pluto. I know that Pluto's no longer considered a proper planet and just a K.B.O. (Kuyper Belt Object), however, when I was younger Pluto was considered to be a legitimate planet, the 9'th planet as a matter of fact. These gals know all the planets. {they name all of them in the song). I'm glad that they have such an intelligent approach to their lyrics.
Because it came from someone's VHS tape recorded off of MTV. You can even hear the host say "...Rocket" at the very beginning. It's likely that an *official* upload of this video from Shonen Knife themselves isn't ever going to happen, as they apparently don't own the rights to their Virgin-era stuff.
when MTV would show underground videos rather than force feed us what is mass produced...
Or show videos, period
they had good music on? what a time to be alive!
Had their own animated block as well. Now TV is a waste of time as it has a lot of channels with nothing but shopping channels or sports.
120 minutes was every fri night at 11:00,then went to Sunday....and alternative nation was a couple of nights a wk. .....good times😄
I miss these days
PURE POP MAGIC!
I am here as I just watched an interview where Kurdt Cobain mentioned them. He certainly knew his POP MUSIC ! 😃
可愛い❤懐かしい❤少年ナイフではこの曲は1、2を争う好きな曲です。20歳ぐらいの頃にハマりました。
This album was released in 1992. They were in their 30s. Yet they look like barely teenagers. No wonder they are still rocking (2/3).
I met them in '09 and they STILL looked like this.
No wonder there can be many unknown songs for a person, even worse or better is that these songs are bangers
Hasta ahora las descubro...que bien se escuchan.
Estoy igual!!!
@@jezreelmartinez si pero yo las veo muy feas
It's as though the Powerpuff Girls formed a band twenty years before Craig McCracken ever dreamed up the PPG. I Love Shonen Knife.
Didn't Shonen Knife do a song for them or even like their theme at one point?
The band BIS did the Powerpuff Girls theme song.
Sometimes you just have to be silly
Shonen Knife did a song for the Powerpuff Girls' "Heroes And Villains" compilation. I believe it was called "Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl)".
But the Powerpuff Girls debuted in 1992, one year before this song :D

I love this band so much
They should be in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
AntoniusRome Fuck that corporate bullshit.
Seeing them in Karlsruhe, Germany tomorrow. So excited!

+Rhiannon K One thing about SHoenen Knife is they had a nice message that was basically "hey, there's shit to be happy about in life. Have some fun"
They still have it and, Atsuko has re-joined the band, so that 2/3 of the originals are with them again
This very video was the first time i heard Shonen Knife, although it was a repeat showing around 1999/2000
they’re super fun to see live. highly recommend to anyone. i saw them twice growing up and loved it.
Anyone in 2024?
Cheers 🍻
I downvote stupid comments.

I've been listening to let's knife all month 🤘🤘
Fantastic stuff. Loved this as a teenager.
Saw them at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark -93 , fantastic gig !
this is a certified hood classic 🔥🔥💯💯🗣🗣🗣🗣
Sheena is a Punk Rocker ❤
This group rocks. Thank you so much!
Can you imagine how hard it must have been to start a punk-pop band like that in Japan in the early 80s.
Real easy considering the bands that were dominating were the same ones in the US like Kiss and Black Sabeth. So an American'ish styled band fit right in and these girls still preform to this day.
There's a few that were around in the 80s. Nurse and "Kyaaah!" we're a few. Glam Metal was all the rage back then.
Osaka was putting out all kinds of rock, punk, and noise bands back then in the 80s and 90s. It was a real scene it sounds like.
i sat here wondering for the longest why i loved this band while i detest basic and unneeded lyrics, then i remembered they were a ramones cover band as well, that's when it dawned on me. THEY'RE MINDLESS PUNK!!!
I saw them open for the breeders & nirvana. last time nirvana was in houston @ the astroarena/astrohall (which is also no longer with us/a venue)
I wish 1993 had never ended...

epic!
Everybody Eee Koe Ohh,!!!,
Love it
Do they have *any* bad songs at all?
I have to write a paper on this video >.>
I ended up here after watching Weird Paul's video on this song.
So wonderfully weird. No wonder Kurt Cobain asked them to open.
I can’t even fathom Nirvana actually wanting this group to tour with them! 🤯
Why? This band is great, and Cobain loved them, especially their Burning Farm record.
yeah...love em
Bandaza japonesa
Me hago un polo de shonen knife
Even before the Beatles the Japanese with their B movies did have an influence on western pop culture .
:skull: i just heard this from class and every time i hear it i couldnt stop laughing :skull: :skull:
What video was that at the end?
Kurt Cobain sent me
Heavier than Heaven brought me here ;)

Mike Ramsey who wouldn't know all the planets? Isn't that basic knowledge. But yeah, pluto also used to be a planet when i was younger.
Not so sure Pluto's got blue-eyed cats doing the mambo on it though. However one can hope.
