25 is pretty old for a horse and she has been neglected for a long time.
The fact that she fought through this and recovered from it is a testimony to both Arthurs strength, and also Bens rescue skills.
Big Ounce protected him over those years, Big Ounce is an omnipotent being who heals and cuddles with the lost and sad. R.I.P Big Ounce 😔
Domestic horses average life span is 25-30, but plenty of horses live to be 50+ years old.
@@Arthur-ek7ndno ??? there have been only a handful of pony’s who got even close to 50years

Those hard skin patches on Morgan's legs are called chestnuts they're where her knees are. I appreciate all your hard work to give these animals a loving home!
arent they good to eat for dogs?
@@ammuski They're just keratin, the same thing that the hooves are made of. Your finger/toenails are also made of keratin. There are no real benefits or detriments of ingesting keratin.
@@jacobcox4565like rhino horns!!
They're also the evolutionary vestiges of their ancestors. Horse ancestors millions of years ago had more than one digit, they had 4 hoofed toes. Eventually, they evolved to only have one hoofed toe, while the rest became smaller and smaller.
@@ammuski i saw short with that and i think that it was disgusting... strange fresh yellowish kinda wound was just ugh... and then that dog...
I'm sure someone has mentioned that your horse is very docile because she is malnourished. Don't be surprised if she gets more frisky and mischievous once she is well-fed. Be cautious and reassess daily. She looks tons better, already. Thanks for the rescue!!

Every so often i randomly miss Big Ounce, but then i remember all the lives he is saving across the galaxy. And then i miss him just a lil less.
The crusty things on her legs are called a chestnut :) it's a left over evolutionary bit, now serving the only purpose of being McNasty.
The eggs on her legs are likely bot fly eggs (these flies may be from the kill pen or your lot), they can be a health risk to the horse. You can remove them with a Bot Fly Knife; found online or at any equestrian/farm store!
Hope you see this and it helps!

The eggs are bot fly eggs, Ben. They sell a bot knife at TSC or sometimes a butter knife works. Sprays don’t kill them. Of corse deworm for bots later when she can have dewormer. I’m sure there’s lots of horse people to help you out there. Best of luck with her, looks like you’re enjoying having a horse ❤
Oh those are brutal uh oh
Botflies? Sounds nasty. Hope Ben gets wind of this.
@@Stooltoad5017 yes they’re super gross. They lodge themselves in the stomach after ingesting them.
@@Raven06025to clarify, bot flies don’t want their larvae to be eaten. Rather the larvae burrow into the skin, however like most things, they CAN end up surviving the stomach acid and end up living inside the intestine (I forget the name) where a normally not parasitic creature ends up becoming parasitic

You guys won’t believe this but Big Ounce visited me last night from the afterlife. My family was on the verge of losing our home in a small kitchen fire, but Big Ounce swooped in to save the day. He also taught me how to do my taxes, and shared mesmerizing stories from his time in Nam. Thank you Big Ounce for not letting death get in the way of you still being a Good Samaritan!!
The “crusty tumor” is called a chestnut. Most horses have them. It’s not harmful at all.
Edit:I’d also suggest getting another equine animal for Author Morgan to spend time with(a pony or small donkey) or maybe putting some goats in her pen as well would work.

for the mosquito larvae you need something to agitate the water like a bubbler because mosquitoes don't like to lay eggs on moving water.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that if she was laying down, that means that she felt comfortable and safe enough to get some much needed rest. Good job on rescuing her!

25! Thats an old horse! Heartbreaking to think someone sent that beautiful senior horse to a kill pen. She lived an entirely life before then. Thank you for giving her a nice retirement!
It's a miracle that the horse lived that long in that condition. She's near end of a horses natural life time. Glad she's in a comfortable spot for the rest of her life tho
25 isnt to old for a horse as many can live into their 30s with the right care and love. She definitely has a lot of trust in you. She always is ears forward and happy.
She’ll be a little old trail horse But for the most part she gets to rest
I swear u can see the relief/happiness on Arthur Morgan's face.. that horse hit the jackpot in being found by you

It's so crazy to me that you have the space and capability to house a horse now.
It's not at all big enough to keep one over the long term though, but I'm sure he intends to give her to real horse people when she is healthier.
@@cattymajivhe has so much land, I think there is plenty of space
@@I.am.better.than.you. if it were an energetic horse it wouldn’t be great, since there’s not enough room to run. But she’s also an old and frail girl, so I’m sure she won’t be frolicking too much for a while yet.
And thats a mighty nosey question to ask you dude.
I can’t believe that living with horses for 2 years actually taught me something but the crusty things on the horses “elbow” is actually callus that are unique to every horse basically making them their own fingerprints. They sometimes overgrow and are easy and not painful to remove from the horse.

Please Uncle Ben please give Remmington a husband so she can have her own babies. She's such a good momma and she wasn't even sitting on fertilized eggs
tip for horses: use a curry comb in a circular motion so it gets the dirt out then use a harder brush to get the dirt and loose hair of and make the horse look nice and shiny!
Poor horse gonna be turned into the most happy horse thanks to Uncle Ben!! Respect for everything you do for all the critters!💚
That grub you found is a beetle larva. They are very bad for your grass as they eat healthy grass roots before they pupate into some various species of beetle.
i am super excited about baby kangooroo! big hug
Lol, it's going in one ear,and out the other man.
I used to ride a horse that age. They can be quite fun and are usually good for learning how to ride. They have a lot of experience with different people and situations which makes them less jittery. The one I rode, however, was super smart and only experienced riders could handle her. If she thought you didn't know what you were doing, she would run off with you and all you could do was hold on. She was awesome and very comfortable to ride. Horses can live into their 30s, by the way.

Check the weather forecast dude, it's gonna be bad up in Buffalo
You are a very nice person Ben. May I reccomend that you rescue a donkey or two? They are the best guard dogs you can get.
Good company for a horse too! Horses need another equine to be with.
Hey Uncle Ben, thanks for the video. Thought u should know that those are not flea eggs or lice, they are actually botfly eggs. It's something a lot of horses get and it's not, necessarily bad for the horse at first, but, if the horse licks the eggs and digests them then they hatch inside the horse's stomach and... birth out the butthole. Anyway, hope that helps with the treatment! They are VERY annoying to remove.
Arthur Morgan is so sweet, pretty surprising with all she’s been through! You’re doing a great job with her, and yes, I prayed today 🥰🥰✝️🙏🏻❤️
The weird grey thing on their leg is called a Chestnut. When a horse is in the womb they have those chestnuts stuck together so they don't thrash about and harm the mother :D They can be removed without much harm, but they don't cause any issues for the horse.
Farmer Dad you are a God send…God bless the work of your kind hands❤❤❤😊😊😊The horse look so much better😊😊😊

I could never do what you do in a million years, too much nastiness. God bless you for helping all of these beautiful critters
Horses will sleep standing up if they do not feel safe the horse laying down is a sign she feels safe now
20+ is quite elderly, as horses go. Glad you're giving her such good treatment. I wouldn't plan for her to be a trail riding horse, though. She's much too old for that.
PS - Those callous-type things on the inside of her legs are called chestnuts. They also have smaller ones called ergot's on the heel end of their fetlocks. They aren't wounds, as long as you keep them from becoming overgrown they aren't anything to worry about.
it depends if she’s sound to ride. I’m riding a 21yr paint mare. She walks jogs and lopes all sound❤️
I love that Arthur Morgan and Muscle Mommy get along. That's so wholesome. :)
my horse is 27, she’s an arabian. she loves being ridden, she was actually in a situation similar to this but she wasn’t as skinny. it depends on the horse, their health, age and breed. i’m sure she once she gets weight, you can lunge her and work with her to build muscle if you’re gonna ride her. the eggs on her legs are botfly larva, get an eyebrow razor or a botfly knife. and the things on her legs are chestnuts, they’re normal and they’re not a tumor!! thank you for saving her ❤
Don’t even worry about how long it takes videos to be made, you are already doing enough!
