Written for MIa Farrow's sister Prudence, who was meditating so much in India with The Beatles that John wrote this song to get her to come out and join everyone. John is finger picking the riff, having just been taught by Donovan how to do it. Paul again is on drums here, with excellent playing. This album is going to amaze you.
@@fritzburbank935 Beat me to it. I'll add that Mia was married to Frank Sinatra. She was also married to classical music giant Andre Previn and later, comedy superstar Woody Allen.
One of my top 5, that is saying a lot from the Beatles. Not in order, but: Get back, Come together, While my guitar gently weeps, Here comes the son and Dear Prudence, are currently my top 5. It changes through the years.
This is one of the few pop recordings of any era that one can say every aspect, every moment is truly PERFECT - every decision made along the way. Instrumentation, the slow, thrilling buildup, vocals, production obviously, … consummate professionals - talent at the height of its powers. On top of all that: one of the most beautiful songs in all pop history.
Merry Christmas love you guys. Paul on bass and drums. Imagine that this song is so great, and it's an album cut not a single. Beatles creativity unmatched.
This album is going to take you all an absolute journey it is so innovative so many layers to it I’ve been waiting for y’all to react to this albumEnjoy the ride guys
I find it funny that critics of the White Album say that it's incoherent, no centralizing theme. That's its beauty, a marvelous collection of different styles, genres, tempos and moods. One of my all-time favorite albums
Yeah: centralizing theme is great but it’s NOT the only way to make albums- how odd and constricting their invented rules are that they’re trying to impose on others: you can’t have the Beatles without their breaking down of boundaries and their voracious creativity.
Aloha gentleman. Ok yesterday around 330 in the afternoon I was playing this. I was thinking you folks haven't done it. Funny I did your show in my head. And Ringos drumming at the end. And today about 330 or so I flip on your show and BAM. YOU play this. What a buzz I got . Peace and love brothers
After they made more than 100 super immortal songs that the entire universe enjoys, they also made two albums for their personal satisfaction, on a different level, above and beyond the universe, by the way, they made productions from one point and then 100 years ahead....
This is the epitome of a Beatles tune at that time: drums, bass, vocal harmonies, guitar riff, the trippy-ness and Paul was all over this one also. Love it! Here we go. Glad you dug it! Thanks.
A personal favorite of mine from the White Album. Love you guys and love reliving my youth coming along for the musical journey with you guys on your exploration. Merry Christmas to you La and Che from me and mine to you and yours. 🎄🎅🏻
The Beatles are so prolific and so deep that it is easy to find a banger you never knew before. I grew up listening to Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road and knew their "hits". But it wasn't until their albums were available on CD that I got to know Rubber Soul, Revolver, and then the White Album. Totally got lost in the White Album. Dear Prudence is one of my all time favorite songs. Just named my new puppy Dear Prudence which tells you how special she is.
M glad this song is finally getting it’s due as one of the great Beatle tracks. It’s been put on the recently remastered “blue” compilation, and making more top ten lists. Great song.
As Always I LOVE that you guys always let tracks play thru-except when you both Have to comment on the excellence of the piece!Enjoy the continued musical journey ❤️
I have never until just now listened to it on good speakers and cranked up a bit. The problem with hearing these songs on cheap radios, in my much younger years. I enjoyed it right along with you!
Mia Farrow (Woody Allen's ex and an actress from the 60s-80s) and her sister went to the Ashram in India with the Beatles, Donovan, Mike Love (beach boy) and others to meditate. Prudence, shied away in her room meditating a lot and John and George were trying to entice her to come out and get some sun on her face.
This is my favorite Beatle jam when I play guitar. You have John playing electric guitar (chords) and later George adds some gritty Gibson SG licks. Paul's bass line on this is epic, and Ringo was still gone. Paul is playing drums again.
Always love this song. Great to watch you react, helps me hear it with new ears. Always nice when you like a fav, kind of like being back in the dorm 40 years ago sharing music with friends.
I've been waiting for this one! This might just be the most magnificent, most emotionally potent, and perhaps very best song they ever wrote. This is a beast of a composition.
This is just one of many examples of why John was my favorite. A killer track and can't wait till you two get to "Happiness Is A Warm Gun". You're in for a treat. Merry Christmas to the both of you. Peace ❤❤
Such a beautiful, gentle scene set by John both lyrically and with the softly descending acoustic progression. Then Paul comes in, being totally assertive with both drums and bass. Such a strange, bold choice. It could have spoiled the mood, but it doesn't! It just makes the song more powerful and, I feel, helps it down the sort of surreal road where it reaches its climax. Most people wouldn't have treated a ballad like this. But this isn't most people. This is The Beatles.
My mother MADE my dad take her to see young Elvis in the 50s when they were dating, he got jealous so he hated Elvis for the rest of his life. I was like 8 when I got home from school and there were 4 large posters in my room, one for every Beatle. She said she knew I liked them. After that she bought me a crap load of Beatle stuff. She even paid my uncle to take me to see them in 1966 at Dodger Stadium. It wasn't until I was an adult that I realize that SHE was the Beatles fan and didn't want to repeat what happened with Elvis. Thanks mom for making me a lifelong Beatles fan. I miss you dearly.
See my other post about the fast hi-hat but that end part being Ringo totally makes sense. It’s a little more syncopated and off from the meter. I was thinking “damn Paul that’s another level than just the bass player sitting in for the AWOL drummer” (who it turns out came back from that leave to fill in that awesome end part).
This just might be my all time favorite Lennon lead performance.... been listening to this all my life and it only gets better .... thanks guys great track!!!
One of the things I like about this album are the links between the songs, not always picked up in reviews. Classic example on this album WMGGW. Ay up.
This is a fav of mine by them its so beautiful If you want to hear a female version of it, Morgan James does it incredibly. It's a little hard to find on UA-cam, but on UA-cam music I found it there's a couple of live versions of her doing it. But the studio version of just her not live is incredible. If you're ever interested in listening to a female sing it. Thanks for your reactions. Love watching the channel ♥️
I’m digging y’all getting into Beatles music. Mike Pachelli has a channel, were he gives you the back story on the Beatles recordings and shows how to play the songs.
one of the joys of my life is watching you two react to the Beatles. I think because you are musicians but honestly, you just get it.
You n me both. Their genuine joy hearing this song for the 1st time is what I felt the 1st time hearing this song. ❤
Couldn’t agree more.
i so agree. its so fun watching others enjoy the music that i do. they have knowledge I don't , which makes it that much better.

Ironically, Mia's character in Rosemary's Baby lived at the Dakota.

My favourite song by The Beatles, just a masterpiece!

The Bass,,,unbelievable... it gets me every time.
HAD to learn it and played it in a band back in the day. EPIC!
Paul on drums, piano, bass flugelhorn and backing vocals
"Never knew it existed" Class lads.
Much love from Ireland.

"how can somebody create a Bassline like this???" - it's just Paul.
Merry Christmas love you guys. Paul on bass and drums. Imagine that this song is so great, and it's an album cut not a single. Beatles creativity unmatched.
Merry Christmas!!
So inventive. I get the same feeling listening to this in 2024 as I did in 1968.
When I hear a song like that from The Beatles, it just makes me Thank God for them!! They helped music grow in this world in So many ways!!!
One of my favorite songs on the album... Thanks Bros and merry Christmas to you and yours.
Merry Christmas!!
This albums has so much variety!
Great reaction La & Che, love listening to the Beatles with you guys!
Laa and Chee are the best!
Whoever I hear this song, I get very nostalgic about John, these songs are when he is at his best.
there are the Beatles and then the others
Yep, they are #1, you can debate who is #2 but we know who started everything and was and still is the best, ever, period!
This album is going to take you all an absolute journey it is so innovative so many layers to it I’ve been waiting for y’all to react to this albumEnjoy the ride guys
I can’t wait until they do the lesser known tracks like Piggies and Long, Long, Long, or Happiness is a Warm Gun, Savoy Truffle, etc.
Long, Long, Long is exquisite! Always loved that track
Revolution 9 will be funny
Love this whole album. Listening to the genius of this band never gets old.
Tripped to this LP many times back in the day.
Extraordinary album with so many great songs. I am especially looking forward to your reaction to While my guitar gently weeps!
this channel is excellent!

When the White Album shines it shines brightest of all their albums, imo.
And a lot of the songs flow perfectly into each other... Back in the USSR and Dear Prudence.... and for me, Helter Skelter and Long Long Long
Yup. It's The Beatles "Physical Graffiti." Or maybe "Physical Graffiti" is Zeppelin's White Album. lol.
Yeah it's a concept album: all great songs
What a great song. Not heard this for a while. Worth the wait.
That bass sound and bass line kill me. There’s something spirit-full (whatever that means 😂) about the whole thing.
George's guitar is the cherry on the top

This has always been one of my favorite by them
Probably my favorite Beatles song. Just so beautiful.
Yep
Paul McCartney is just too unbelievably talented. As they all were but Paul especially.
Indeed 🙂 Saw him in Madrid last week. When you walk into that stadium and see Paul on the stage, you´re in 20th history.
Lennon lyrically
Such a great tune 🤘

Love that Octave Mandolin droning throughout. And Paul's Bass!
great album...thanks chaps👍
One of the best Beatles songs!
Great reaction to one of the finest cuts on any of their amazing catalog of albums.
Song about Mia Farrow's sister at a retreat in India. Alanis Morrisette did a nice cover of this at a Beatles tribute.
It just builds and builds to that perfect final verse and chorus- one of the great crescendos in rock 🎸 💥
Very eclectic album. You have to be ready for anything on this one.

Wait till you get to Yer Blues......yes they play blues!!!
Nasty, killer song, great cover by John with Eric Clapton and Keith Richards at the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus!
I love the choices Ringo makes on drums, in terms of what to play, what not to play. It works.
