Hey Rocky, i have a seperate question. Where did you get power from for your radar detector? I apparently burnt out my auto dim side mirrors from back tapping the plug in the rearveiw mirror wiring harness according to gm dealer. So now thinking of doing a fuse tap. What did you do? If a fuse tap, which one?
I will admit I cringe at how these plastic threads can stick/hang up and require more torque to either spin back on or to loosen than steel on steel threads with a lubricant ever thought of and am curious what would happen if next time you put either some oil or grease onto the filter bowls threads, if that would be of any help. I hear of guys stripping their hex drive, that either means they are over tightening and then having a heck of a time to get it back off next time or they are that fragile ? A comment about the filter that came out which may surprise you but in fact that was a dirty filter with restriction building up and the trucks system was telling you it was climbing in restriction. I know it doesn't show any visible crap on the exterior of the filtering media but in fact the particles that are making that filter media black that have impregnated into the filtering media is the dirt/restriction. While I am calling it dirt, it may in fact be partly diesel growth occurring and in a hot or hot and humid climate its a lot more of an issue than it is in a cold climate and bio diesel is more prone to growing the algae. It might not hurt to put in a biocide product every so often. On some of my equipment that has open element filters ( I don't take the time to always cut open spin on filters ) I can see just like you are as to what the filtering media looks like and its rare for me to see a filter that dark, often its barely off color at all compared to a new one once its soaked with clean diesel. Anyway I encourage you to keep changing them at least this often as you don't want to find out what happens when a filter becomes too restrictive and collapses and crap enters the injection system ... I shake my head at GM going with a single filter, almost all farm and industrial equipment, highway tractors etc use two filter, a courser water separating filter first and then a final fuel filter with a fine media. I guess that's my two cents worth ... for what its worth !.
@@RockyRohde That was on my mind as well, as long as its a quality unit with the right dimensions so the filter sits at the correct depth and seals properly on the housing body. Plastic is light and more than likely quite cheap to produce once they create the mold for the item so the profit margin is uh ... "delicious" for GM ! . However there is one thing plastic is good at and that is it won't corrode with water, or bio diesel itself I understand can cause issues with some aluminum's.
I like both for different reasons. The gmc just drives like a car and has adaptive steering. The ford has more tech but is glitchy. The ford has a little more comfort in the seats. The GM has more of updated look. Just drive both and see what you like. I have zero regret trading my 24 limited for a Denali..
as a general contractor who has to hire trades to perform work and just in life generally speaking people just dont give a shit....Ill do my own maintenance and feel a hell of a lot better about it being done right and the fact its quicker and cheaper is even better
Please do get an aluminum replacement. I procrastinated and didn’t really want to drop $120 on a filter cover and now have a stripped filter cover that I can’t take off. My best guess is the plastic heats up in the summer causing the plastic to be softer and easier to warp

Google gen5diy they have a plug and play harness. Just make sure you get the 24 hd one. Half ton is a different part number.

Yeah the plastic one is not a good design. Next change I’m installing Aluminum.
