I remember watching this Live. Every friday we would sit back as a family and watch Def Jam on HBO. And we recorded every episode of every season Martin hosted. The best dirty jokes you'll ever hear. Since I was a kid some of the jokes my older brother and sister would have to explain to me and would get in trouble for it. Lol... I will always remember and cherish these memories. Ever since then I loved comedy and always will! The truth tellers of the world.
Man yeah thats a trip i remember seeing Tony Woods on P Diddys Bad Boys of Comedy and i thought to myself that he reminded me of Dave a little bit, but with his own unique laid back style that was tha illest shyt to watch while you was high, immidiately when he came out he just set tha mood and left mad laid back, always thought that was one of the most obscure but yet best comedic performances i ever seen, there was something subtle and laid back about it and i see now what Dave Chapelle got from Tony Woods. He definitely got a bit of that same style. If it wasent for this man there would be no Dave Chapelle. So much respect and salute to Tony Woods and to Dave Chapelle for givin props where its due, thats what a real one do.
I was looking for this clip for over 10 yrs. I couldn't remember this man's name for nothing. All I remember was he taking the cat home. Now I found it. And it's still has me in tears.
I gotta say this is the funniest set in the entire def comedy jam series. I just finished watching the entire run and this one made me hurt more than any of them.
Came here after reading about Chappelle regarding him as a mentor. (Chappelle was just awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and he was commenting on his positive influences.)

I can tell
Now that I’ve read this…I can totally see it! Especially young Dave.
He wasn't Dave mentor. Dave stole his character

Dave definitely got 99% of his influence from Tony. This is how you take excellence and turn it into perfection.
Dave has a similar story on "For what it's worth"
Really had me crying laughing 🤣🤣

Dave will admit this!

He’s like a bunch of comedians in one. I see Dave Chapelle and Martin Lawrence Hybrid in the way he performs. With a mix of Eddie griffin.
