      It would be much easier to improvise something like this than to read it off a score!

    FABULEUX ! Le génie de Pierre Cochereau sous nos yeux, et dans nos oreilles.
    On imagine le travail qu'il a fallu pour réaliser la transcription.
    A la fin de la présentation il y a un lien permettant de se procurer la partition.

    This impro was selected by Pierre Pincemaille with many others gathered in the "L'organiste liturgique" (SOCD 226).

    Fantastic that there's a transcription! Unfortunate that it doesn't seem to have been made by an organist though.

      I think the somewhat vaugue indications like "brighter" are actually the best thing you could write in this case. If youre too specific youll probably be wrong and make it impossible for anyone to play it on their local organ

      I agree. Whoever transcribed it either knows jack shit about the organ, or is a very poor organist.

      @Gus Cox
      It's much worse than that. The "registration" indications are the least of the problems. Really you need to have a masterful understanding of organ playing, the French organ tradition and the instrument at Notre Dame to have any hope of making a vaguely decent transcription of anything, let alone Cochereau. Most of what this Lara Poe person has notated 1) sounds nothing like what's played, 2) is highly un-idiomatic for the organ, and 3) would sound awful if played. It's a downright piece of junk. Sorry I'm genuinely quite angry about it - this transcription is an insult to the legendary improvisor, and an insult to Stephen Tharp.

      @@cliveso sorry to hear you feel this way. I would say that I do have a decent knowledge of the French tradition, although am not an organist myself (as you have said). As Gus has said, I tried to indicate things like "brighter" to give the performer freedom, as different organs have different registrations and I wanted this to be something people could play from. It's definitely possible that I may have missed some notes, as the acoustics and registrations can make it quite difficult to hear the final details at times. Are there any particular inaccuracies you're referring to? Cheers!

    My God! Mind blowing. Fine after Mass in a continental Cathedral. Imagine playing this in an English provincial Cathedral after Eucharist (if the assistant organist was capable!). He/She would be fired!

    inimitable patte du Maître P. Cochereau : rythme endiablé staccato, traits de pédale basse enlevés, alternance des anches en batterie (chamades de NDdP qu'il affectionnait) et des fonds moelleux ...C'était tout lui, en improvisation de sortie de messe...

    Ca c'est de l'orgue. Seul le Maitre Cochereau savait faire sonner ce qui était un merveilleux instrument, avant qu'il ne soit saccagé par les "organistes" actuels...

      @@chronochromie772 Well, there are far more notes than are written, for a start! But, having played several Cochereau improvisations from transcribed scores over the years, it is always artistically superior to enjoy Cochereau playing them as they were intended, that is: "the spontaneous uttering of an illusory art".

    Here is a much more competent transcription. It's by no means perfect, but at least it is idiomatic and playable, and is actually played and recorded:
