Thanks. I noticed a video trying to sell expensive "radio theft proof" wallets and came searching for an explanation. Luckily I found it here and realized that the people trying to sell you fancy wallets are the real scammers. There is no threat of someone stealing your credit card information by walking by you with a scanner.
Fun fact: The foil between the card and reader doesn't necessarily need to "block" the signal, it just needs to soak up enough of the energy that's coming off of the reader to make the card unusable. This is fairly easy to do because of how little energy readers use.
@@hb3393 I'm not complaining tho. They're not in-your-face hard sellers. There doesn't even seem to be an agenda to these videos other than information. I didn't even know this till I read this thread. It's not deceptive imo
Another great video. Maybe because I rarely do small transactions (no coffee shot habit here, thanks) I've actually never done a phone pay or NFC card transaction. Some of the grocery stores here in fairly average suburban and small city USA, don't even reliably read the chip on credit cards, and often then do work upon swiping the magnetic stripe! Likewise at gas (petrol) stations. Holding 4 different credit cards in front of a Chrismas laser array shows that 1 is totally opaque, 1 is almost opaque but allows some light (both green and red) through the borderlines of the CPU chip, 1 lets a bit of red show through the card, and one has its empty innards well lit up by the red array. But no NFC coil in any of them. I've never asked for an NFC version of my cards, but I've also not ever refused any offer where they push out new types of cards.
Generally NFC cards will have a symbol on them that looks like a wifi symbol, The NFC antenna won't always be a circular loop but may be rectangular or close to the outside edge of the card if you look with a light. Personally i've always found NFC to be the most reliable method of card payment, it very rarely fails compared to chips or magnetic strip (my cards have all three options).
There's ways to extend the range on the card readers using certain antennas, people put them in backpacks and capture cards in small space like elevators. This method is useful for capturing cards to enter buildings, garages and the like. It won't be able to capture a smart bank card due to the configuration. It can however damage them, I do that to old cards I don't use anymore. Alas, as you noticed you can't capture more than one at a time, putting an old card behind the new one blocks both. I personaly learnt nothing from this video. What works for me is, I only use contactless / phone payments in reputable establishments and, only debit from an account with the bare minimum in it and, have TWO low cash accounts from different banks. PLUS, as the young gentleman said, carry some 'emergency' cash.
Now you dont need the card, no need to copy it. You pay by phone or watch. So the scammer calls the elderly and pairs his phones with nfc and pays with them. Easy and nothing technically complicated. Only good talk to an less educated victim over phone "im from bank and need to confirm..."

Speak to this guy to join the dark side ^
I can talk about this now, but a friend of mine figured out how the credit card companies create card numbers and the security numbers using an algorithm. She got paid but sadly was caught and passed away in Chesapeake city jail.
Guess what, if you use the Lloyds banking app, there is a section on there that shows your pin just in case you forget it. I’ve had to use it a couple of times. So the pin is stored. It’s accessible on your online banking app….
It's all about the cameras isn't it. I always cover up my card number with my thumb when I'm making a contactless
I just disabled contactless on my phone, and card
0:13 the same key chain I have...

Thank you Bradley
Nice man 💯
As long as there are clever individuals inclined to break such security measures, they'll always eventually become vulnerable somehow. It's just the way things are 😁
That's just the way it is 🎵
@@Sumsubcom whoa I'm all giddy I got a reply 🤣🤣. Love all your stuff, as a security guy myself, I completely realize the value in bringing this info to the people! It's needed now more than ever, keep up the good work!
Can you make a video on how Machine learning is used in cyberspace or cybersecurity please😁😁
Sounds like a good idea!
@@Sumsubcom give a heart for the comment dude😂
Hey, thanks for existing, bye.
I like banknotes and coins, they are filled with history and mistakes that can sell for more. Just think, you may soon have some with King Charles, making the one's you have now, with "The never to be equaled Queen Elizabeth" left to grab up in a frenzy ♥
NFC, via your phone, today, does not send any credit card information, only a token that is useless, to a hacker.
Hold up. You can actually pull cc details with a bog standard android that has NFC built in but ok mate
Nope no contactless over here plus I'm planning on microwaving it when I do. I mean come on the ability to wirelessly transmit information seems like mag stripe scamming was so much more of a hassle.
For you you might have to spend many years decoding a proprietary system with hidden flaws but let's say there is a $100,000 reward if you break it........
There are already phone apps around that can read card number and name using nfc. I worked for a card reader company before. I'm sure a malicious programmer who have worked in similar company/technology can make apps that can steal more info, but this will be specific to a bank or merchant only.
I Love this
had this happen to me once on the bus. dunno why the person that got the info bought cow skin rugs but atleast the bank took my side without a fight
I’m kinda annoyed that the companies that make “secure wallets” deceive customers the way they do.
Indeed
I personaly learnt nothing from this video. What works for me is, I only use contactless / phone payments in reputable establishments and, only debit from an account with the bare minimum in it and, have TWO low cash accounts from different banks. PLUS, as the young gentleman said, carry some 'emergency' cash.
Bank Notes might be immune from power outages ( Best feature ever ) but tellers don't know how to make change.
CAsh is best
Lmao
How I like British accent. I don't understand any words. What are you saying in this video???
in germany, fingerprints are now stored in ID cards using NFC technology
Now you dont need the card, no need to copy it. You pay by phone or watch. So the scammer calls the elderly and pairs his phones with nfc and pays with them. Easy and nothing technically complicated. Only good talk to an less educated victim over phone "im from bank and need to confirm..."
And who DOESN'T stack several cards one behind the other?
Thanks a ton
This is exactly the situation where you will tire yourself explaining how nuclear energy is the most environment friendly and safest energy generation you have but they won't understand because of all the unnecessary paranoia they have.
wait so technicly could you play doom on a credit card
Like for perfectly correct pronunciation of Konstantin's name!
The law in Romania 🇷🇴 insists on a receipt. 😊
love it hehe
17:34 "But can it run Doom?"
1 million subs by the end of the year?
We'll see, it's not looking likely!
