    We used this video as a guide for seeking our NLV from the Los Angeles Consulate. This video was extremely useful. In general, I found the actual interview to be way less stringent than this video implied it would be(I'm not complaining!). I was way over prepared for the interview, they only needed about half of the info that I had prepared. Even though we are clearly at retirement age, the consulate really seemed eager to see a notarized letter of intent confirming we had no intention of working in Spain. Also, they only wanted enough proof of IPREM income to confirm the minimum, no need to confirm absolutely every penny from every account that you have. The emphasis of having everything stamped seemed to be exaggerated, too; just a good translation seemed to be enough. We were the only people there the whole time. There was no one there before us or after us, that seemed strange since there were appointments available at ten minute intervals when we booked ours. The interviewer was super friendly, frankly, we thought it was easy. Best of luck to everyone.

      How long was your fbi back ground check go for before getting your appointment ?
      is it 3 months ?

    • @clinterz
      @clinterz 2 місяці тому

      Yeah the FBI check was the biggest hassle and took the longest time. We sent the documents to the FBI and waited a month before starting the process for the other documents that the Visa requires. I got mine directly from the FBI, but my wife had problems because her finger prints were not clear enough. She eventually got an acceptable background check (the 3rd set of prints submitted were accepted) from the DOJ of our state(California). The state background check was much faster than the FBI check. I don't think that every Spanish consulate will accept a state background check, however. The copies of our marriage license expired before we could get an appointment with the consulate, so we had to get those twice. Got them back with the apostle from Nevada with about 10 days to spare before the Visa appointment.

    The consulates have wizened up to the amount of time that it takes to get the FBI background check apostilled, so now they are allowing 5 months for that one piece. Lucky for us. - Great video!

    Hey there,
    Just saw your video in one of the Facebook groups!
    As an Immigration Consultant, I have to say you guys are champions!
    Getting through the Spanish Consulate in LA is pretty tough, especially when you want to apply between July and October (that's the busiest period in the Spanish Consulates in the US). Well done indeed!
    As a tip from me, should you plan on renewing your NLVs, open up a Spanish bank account and transfer the funds for years 2 and 3 there (minimum funds are x2 the ones for the initial NLV - keep that in mind) - getting proof of funds from a Spanish bank account is much easier + it is all in Spanish + most banks already know they have to stamp everything.
    Enjoy España!

    Thank you for taking the time to shoot and edit this video. Sounds nerve wracking, but not as bad as applying for an American visa. I have a friend from Costa Rica and in that American consulate people can only apply for a tourist visa once every 6 months and I've heard that some of the consulate workers behind the windows can be pretty condescending. Even though it was stressful for you two, I think you'll enjoy your time in Europe. There's no mass shootings, people value quality of life over breathing and living just to work. Hope you have a wonderful time.

    Congrats on getting your NLV! I applied for mine in late November 2021, and my experience was similar to yours. I even spent about the same amount on translations! The main differences for me included being able to get my background check/apostille from Colorado (this took 2.5 weeks) since I had lived there for more than the previous five years, and I did not have to get my 1040 tax forms translated. (I asked the L.A. consulate beforehand, and they explicitly told me I did not need to get them translated.)
    It also took seven weeks for my NLV application to be approved instead of two weeks for the two of you. Maybe they are getting faster!

      No. It needs to be within a very specific period of time and sent in to the Apostille and then officially translated. Spain is very specific and it's better to just re-do the process the way Spain wants it done. Good luck!

      The 790 052 Tasa form online didn’t work for first time NLV applicants so we found this (updated) pdf version online… link below… the consulate employee only needed page one from us plus the money order which was $152 USD for USA citizens. Hope this clarifies for others…. Good luck to all and thanks so much for your video and tips!

    Could you please clarify about the requirement for getting health insurance for Spain.... Do you have to buy a years insurance before your NLV application is accepted? What would happen if the application is rejected? How does the start date of the insurance work if there are delays in getting to Spain? Thanks so much.

    • @DaysWeSpend
      @DaysWeSpend  5 місяців тому

      We had to buy a year of insurance before we were accepted. We're not sure what happens if you are rejected. Perhaps is possible to get a refund through your health insurance broker.
      When you apply for health insurance (through a broker), they help you with the start date. You can probably move the date with them if you have issues.

      There is no requirement for the first step of the NLV. Now that we're here, we need to register for the NLV with a one year lease. The application has a space for an address, but you only need to put the city.

    i have applied to the San Francisco consulate, with my NLV and all the documents necessary, it was suppose to get there July 15-19th but due to weather arrived the 22nd i asked if it was a problem the only response was "No worries"--- how long did it take to get an actual appointment with the Consulate or confirmation code stating you were approved to to check the process?
    as San Fran may be different then LA and they did not have a choose our own date for appointment option, or any confirmation code they have received my package
