Welcome to Backroads Homesteading! Today, we're taking on an exciting project - spray foaming our first room. We're using Vega Bond Self Expanding, Purplecoat Closed Cell Insulation to combat the intense radiant heat coming through the ceiling.
    Preparation:
Before we start, we've sealed up some cracks to ensure a smooth application. The key is to maintain a 12 to 18-inch distance during spraying, and we're in the perfect temperature window for the foam to adhere properly.
    First Application:
Our first can of foam went down pretty well. We're aiming for a thicker layer, so we've attached an adapter to the spray gun for better reach into corners. However, it's a bit messier and trickier to control the start and stop with this tip.
    Tip Adjustment:
Switching to a flat tip made a significant difference. It's much easier to manage the spray rate, although it's still incredibly messy. This is a learning curve, but we're making progress.
    Break Time:
After a short break, we're back at it for round two. A shoutout to professional spray foamers - this job is not for the faint of heart. It's hot, messy, and requires careful handling of volatile chemicals.
    Product Review:
The Vega kit has been great. It comes with all the necessary tools, and buying a second kit on Amazon gets you a substantial discount. We managed to cover a 12x12 room's ceiling with 12 cans, achieving a thickness of about 1 to 3 inches.
    Learning Curve:
Understanding the pressure dynamics of the cans is crucial. The spray pattern changes from the beginning to the end of the can, but once you get the hang of it, the application becomes much easier.
    Conclusion:
The Purplecoat foam has excellent grip and adheres well to surfaces. We're impressed with the results and look forward to seeing the difference it makes in temperature control. Thanks for joining us on this adventure, and we'll see you in the next video!
