Ok so I got a spolier a while back on Instagram saying akito was a girl and the fact that I've only seen the anime from when it was first made the 2019 version it's so much more detailed and I'm in so much pain because of this anime
I'm honestly glad all this was omitted from the original anime. I already disliked Akito from that one, but this is so much worse. When Fruba first released all those years ago (frick, I'm old), people warned me about the manga. I love the original anime for a multitude of reasons, while disliking the remake. I do appreciate that the new one sticks closer to the manga, but I'm not a fan of the animation style. In my opinion, it's too polished. Anyway, I knew Akito and Shigure had a thing going on, but holy shit buckets, this is levels of messed up I can't even comprehend. Romanticizing it (like I see in the comments) is concerning. Their relationship is so incredibly toxic, unhealthy, and filled with petty bitterness. I miss the Shigure from the original anime, sans his gross obsession with high school girls. He wasn't a "I slept with blank only because you slept with blank" kinda petty bitch. He says he loves her, but is terrible at showing it. I expect that from Akito, but not "down-to-earth" Shigure. The manga-ka must've been going through some tough shit in her life while creating Fruba. I feel for her, but man, it's a messed up series from start to finish. I'll, uh.... I'll stick with the original anime and try to forget about the horrors of the source material. I like the original message of the original, which was finding happiness and worth in yourself despite all the shit you've been through. Versus the source material, which is "life is shit, cheat on your partner when they cheat, it's okay to be in an abusive relationship as long as your partner says they love you while also gaslighting you, and you're only worth anything if someone says you are." Kids, as someone who's been in their fair share of abusive, toxic relationships, I implore you to not use this relationship as a template for healthy love. It's many levels of the opposite. Absolutely no one who says they love you, but behaves like this, is telling the truth. To top it all off, a partner who loves you will NOT cheat on you, especially as some petty revenge story. I get that these characters have been abused by the adults in their lives when they were children, but that's reason enough to get involved romantically until they've worked through their traumas. Tohru and Kyo are the healthiest couple, and they're not even a good example of healthy. That's how low the bar is in this series. 😅😩 Tohru is the only sensible one amongst the Sohma family, except for maybe Momiji, as long as his story and personality aren't different than the original anime. He's by far the strongest one. The AMV is very well done, though. Great editing, layers, timing, etc..👍

This made them the perfect choice for an AMV as the storyline is very twisted and full of drama. I myself consider their relationship as a red flag but thinking back to my younger self, I could imagine that many viewers are romanticizing these two by seeing only the intensity of their feelings for each other and are longing for this in their own lives. But, of course, passion can be there without the toxic part so I also hope that the fans of Fruba can differentiate between that in real life.
@LucyxFer younger Fruba fans will have a harder time distinguishing a toxic relationship from a healthy one because they're inexperienced in the matter. I've also noticed that younger viewers will forgive bad behavior if they deem a guy attractive, which is problematic in of itself. It's all fun and games until it happens to you. There's also the liking of the "bad boy" phase that teens often go through. We can only hope that their parents or responsible adults are able to educate them on how to spot red flags, examples of healthy relationship behavior, and that absolutely no one should ever have to deal with abuse.
