I want to have more then one child. So all their gifts are based on maturity and other factors. I like to keep certain plans secret. he main thing is that I'm making sure all their toys are kept in order. I literally want to be that one mom that has all the pieces to a kids game and the box is actually in good condition. Because those items will be getting donated. It's so hard not to say certain things or I might spill to much of my idea's!
At least she is not over-spoiling them all year. She is teaching them that they have to work for what they want. People are so damn judgmental. Mind your own business.
Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year and i buy my kids a lot of gifts as well and we only have 2. you should see our Christmas tree! I love seeing my babies happy!
Yet every teen youtuber does "what i got for christmas haul" videos showing the mountains of presents they get. Sometimes including a macbook/ipad, uggs, makeup, clothes etc.
oh every kid does this now a days - i'm 24 and know materialistic adults who do this still, even for random shit they buy. that's a huge issue when kids get older, they all post photos of what they got and it's the equivalent to going to school & bragging about it to your peers. parents shouldn't be worried about how another parent spoils their child at christmas, but rather if they tell them how to behave around other kids who may only get one small gift. I wish more adults did this though everyday. Social media has destroyed people's perception of what reality is. i see these "minimalist" looking photos that are supposed to be everyday snapshots, looking like an art director came in and set up a shot. room is extremely clean, nothing out of place, everything perfectly decorated, perfect white duvet and matching bedding, perfect soft but bright lighting, minimalist decor...
john doe Of course there's good ones. You just hear about the bad ones. I will admit, my parents spend a lot on me at christmas but I don't let it affect me. I don't pester them throughout the year and if I want something I work for money and get it myself. And I'm sure there are a lot more children/teens like this, you just never hear about them because the media shows the bad things that kids do.
Here's my strategy for a good Christmas, get the gifts you asked for, but donate old things you don't use or play with to people who are less fortunate, and of course don't over due it with the presents. Say you get a game console and a few games to go with it that's good enough, no need to exceed to ridiculous amounts.
ok my parents did spoil me on christmas BUT we always go to church and we donate a lot during the holidays and my parents have always told me- if you want nice things then you have to learn to be resourceful and be smart with money management etc.
I think if you don't spoil your kids year round 1 day a year you should spoil your kids. If you only spoil them 1 day a year then they won't become spoiled brats.
My family usually gives us like either one big gift (like around $200) and smaller ones (like around $10-$15) or a bunch of medium ones ( around $50) and the rest of the year we dont get anything which is why we splurch on christmas.
Maybe it is for you and the it started out that way. Now it's just commercialised bulls hit so that corporations can work at taking as much money as possible from us.
Lowell Dizon there's no such thing as Jesus in the bible haway is Hebrew which means black and there's no such thing as the letter J in the hebrew alphabet
For Christmas I got a record player and a Paramore record to play on it. I also got a few other small things, but I was very very grateful and thanked my parents many times. :) My mom, dad, little sister, and I also went out and gave to this organization that gives toys to children and parents who can't really afford them. I know it's been 2 months already, but I hope everyone's holidays were lovely. :)
Parents love their children, so they want them to be happy. To make them happy, they spoil them with material things. Christmas is the perfect "excuse" for this. This tradition is probably more prevalent with parents who are professionally successful. What most parents fail to realize is that spoiling kids only makes them happy in the short-term. That new toy fire engine will only give your son a temporary high. This spoiling tradition also discourages children from building a strong work ethic, where people work to get the things that they want. To succeed in life, people need to build a strong work ethic based on self-discipline and continuous self-improvement. Spoiling goes against this. IMO, mild deprivation can have a positive effect in the long-run because it encourages kids to do what it takes to succeed in life. I was spoiled rotten as a kid, with a room full of Transformers and G.I. Joe toys. Now as an adult, I have $40000 in student loans and drive a 14-year old car. I have been laid off 3 times and I failed in 2 careers. I washed out of military officer training. My Vietnamese friend in school was dirt poor and exploited by his parents as cheap labor to work in a failing Chinese restaurant. Now as an adult, that Vietnamese immigrant is earning 6 figures in IT and driving a cool sports car.
i celebrate christmas, but i have thought about WHY we do this holiday every year. Why can't we have family dinners every night or get our kids a thoughtful gift whenever we want to? Why do we have to designate a certain day to spoil our kids? I have decided this year to get my kids just a few things that have a purpose, such as learning toys or crafts. I just cant help but think why we bring a tree into our homes every year and decorate everything and buy all these toys for ONE day. Dont get me wrong i celebrate christmas and do it all but i have been thinking about this alot lately.
LemonComputer exactly and even if everyone did it for Jesus then why are we spoiling our kids with gifts? The three wise men brought jesus gifts and they had a purpose...but there was no christmas tree, infact the name christmas was originally Christian-ized by the catholics because it was a pagan holiday. The bible does not tell us to celebrate christmas or birthdays for that matter or even Easter.
I'm sure I am contradicting myself here, but i have been thinking about this and seems silly in a way. If God was in this holiday, the entire world wouldn't be in on it, I assure you. This holiday is a mega money making deal so how could it be about Christ?
I think it depends. If you spoil your kid year round and they become bratty and expect everything handed to them, it's not good. But giving them an extravagant Christmas, and then keep it limited for the rest of the year, it's OK. Usually for Christmas my mom lets me ask for one or two big things (Last year it was a 3DS XL with an Animal Crossing game) and then a few smaller things like art supplies and clay.
All I got for Christmas is a necklace but my mom is such an amazing person and I am vvv thankful. She is very poor so she teaches me to work hard and earn our gifts. So I gave her all my money to help out! Love you Mom! 😚💗💞
I don't understand how one can be so rich he does barely anything for money while there is another, working 24/7 and getting little. and those who can do nothing and roam the street. the world now is all about money. tax money, fine money, work money, house money, gas money, shopping money, gift money, SOME LUCKY BASTARDS MANAGE TO NOTICABLY HIGHER THE BILL.
When I was a kid and my family had a bit more money, we were given a limit of 100 dollars each. No more. My mother also heavily pushed us to ask for educational toys and clothes. It sucked a little bit but I at least understand her reasoning. My favorite Christmas toy was my Idog or my stuffed robo bear.
Sounds like my family! I get one really nice present and the rest of them are other small things I really need like socks that I didn't get during the year 😂 I go to church too
I get 10 presents other than that the rest of the year i have to bye my own stuff i do not bye my cloths at a fashion store i buy all of my clothes at a resale store and the presants are like lip gloss and i love them at xmas I have to do 10 hrs of comunity servies and giving is better that reciving
I one day was looking in mercadolire (Argentina online store) and i see notebook which i was looking to get and i was like some day maybe we could get this Response was buy It and she gave me his credit card

I don't think there is a right or a wrong as long as children are taught all year long about giving back and that Christmas is more than just getting gifts. Our family has found that Christmas is a lot more fun and a lot less stressful when we spend the season on as much family time as possible and doing something to help those less fortunate than we are. It's not worth spending that much money unless it's on a few things that your kids REALLY need or want and you KNOW they will use! I didn't get much for holidays when I was younger and I truly believe that's part of the reason why I'm so grateful for things I do get to this day.
just buying shit cause corporations say so is exactly why we are in this situation. thats all we are supposed to do from their point of view. just buy shit..... dont think about it, just buy stuff
I don't get birthday presents, a birthday cake or party, not even birthday wishes, no Christmas presents and not even a stocking yet my two younger brothers get everything. I'm currently 17 and to date have gotten nothing all year. They get IPads and Beats by dre and I'd be grateful to get a sock. I think we can see who their favorite is. I look under the tree with tons of gifts and every year none of them have my name on it. I don't get gifts year round either so basically I pay for myself.
My kids are getting electric tooth brushes for Christmas. My usually Christmas items are essential stuff they need. Others will buy them frivolous things. I wouldn’t mind someone buying them an iPad, but no one in my family is wealthy enough to spend money like that. They usually get really cheap stuff from their grandma, I have to filter through them to make sure it’s not going to cause them harm.
+An idiot says that doesn't make sense lmao. If your an atheist you don't believe in God or Jesus So if you say you celebrate Jesuses birthday because it changed history, than your not an atheist.
But....it started as a pagan holiday to combat winter depression. The original holiday was to gather around and fuck each other. It was called the great orgy for a reason.....
Actually, Jesus wasn't born in December! The winter's in Jerusalem would have been too cold for poor baby Jesus (or Mary for that matter) to even survive. Most things point to Jesus being born in either the summer or spring times.
There's nothing wrong with this mom you just have to show your kid the discipline that comes with rewards
Yeah but if you give rewards every time they do a good thing they will feel entitled spend life giving to get
that is ok. you can buy the whole store for your kid, don't regret after they grew up.

it makes sense if parents say no all year and get the presents they want on Christmas. I don't think that's spoiling
my parents could literally give me a bag of dorritos and i would be happy bruh
Egg lol I got a Costco box of Kitkats once and was happy as hell

I am 13 years old and I honestly try my very hardest to be a great daughter so people don't critisise my parents or judge the way they are raising me.
Alaska Ag lol I'm 14 and same

She works damn hard for her money she can spend it how ever she damn likes.
Christmas season is about the birth of Christ
Bilobate Turtle5 It was actually hijacked by the Christians from the Roman Saturnalia.
Bilobate Turtle5 agreed
Christians ripped Christmas off the pagans.
Bilobate Turtle5 PEOPLE believe Christmas is about giving. that is 100% false its about receiving Jesus Christ
Usually on Christmas my sister and I get 1 "special" present each ( like a tablet/phone/video game/etc.) and we get 2 to 4 minor inexpensive presents.
I think if you don't spoil your kids year round 1 day a year you should spoil your kids. If you only spoil them 1 day a year then they won't become spoiled brats.

What is up with abcnews' obsession with mothers "sparking controversy"?!
Honestly, if it makes them happy and they aren’t brats nothing is wrong with it. When they’re like 13 and 14 they will get embarrassed with 5 iPhones, and 3 iPad pros anyways.
In my family, even the non-extravagant coveted material things have always cost too much except on an occasional basis (and not just after earning my keep from my current work).

I just buy what I need throughout the year and on Christmas I buy what I want but let it be not too big. For example last year, I got books!
These days my family does secret Santa so everyone gets one gift, even the kids, but its there's still a super fun game to go with it, so they don't get upset.
The way the mom went through with it is fine. She says no to the kid every day of the week except Christmas. It makes sense.
What my parents do is my brother and I get one big gift and then a bunch of small gifts like clothes but not everyone does that some people buy there kids tons of stuff and if that’s how they want to do it let them
" one special gift like tablet or smartphone. " that's the problem.
Are people aware they dont buy their kids shit through the year? As a result they go mental on christmas
I barely get anything through out the year so my dad takes solstice as a time to treat me but even that is really hard because of the funds most times I am happy with art supplies
The Obamas are doing it right. My mom lets my sister and I have 3 toys and the rest is clothes.

Not to mention memories are so much better than material items. I'd take a family trip over a bunch of things I'll forget about in an hour.
I'm very grateful that at Christmas my parents can afford to buy me and my siblings a lot of presents.
great, another SPOILED BRAT.
Gopnik Blin bitch shut the fuck up poor kid
I think it would be good to get one BIG gift and then some small ones and some treats as stocking stuffers
"Christ"mas mmh why do we get gifts instead of jesus?
How I see it should be is pick like the most three things you want like your top three things you want for Christmas
just buying shit cause corporations say so is exactly why we are in this situation. thats all we are supposed to do from their point of view. just buy shit..... dont think about it, just buy stuff
5 rule: 1 present from each parent, one present they pick, and 2 surprises. ONLY 1 BIG SURPRISE THOUGH.
I'm sorry to hear that. :/ I don't know when you birthday is but comes around this year, I would like to wish a fantastic and happy birthday. :)
Christmas is not about giving it's the time that christ was born. Damm atheists
I'm atheist but I still celebrate Jesus's birthday because it changed history
+An idiot says that doesn't make sense lmao. If your an atheist you don't believe in God or Jesus So if you say you celebrate Jesuses birthday because it changed history, than your not an atheist.
I think Jesus was a real person yes. Is there something that makes you think he wasn't an actual person? Correct me if I'm wrong but Jesus is not God.
