@@snoshio6043 scarlet witch was more manipulating them, playing with their fears though. Killgrave could literally get hulk to beat thor to death with captain Americas head.
Kilgrave might be one of my favorite tv Villains of all time, like I know he was bad but for some reason I cant help but really like his character . Idk it's weird.
About why the people at the pier "stopped what they were doing" instead of stopping in their tracks even after he was dead. Remember that Killgrave's commands are up to interpretation. Like when he commanded Jessica to "take care" of Reva. Killgrave pointed out in episode 8 (and rightly so) that Jessica was the one who interpreted that as killing Reva. So people at the pier interpreted "Stop" as "stop fighting" instead of "freeze", i think i would do that as well. And since "stop fighting" would be an instantaneous kind of command (as opposed to a continuous kind, which "freeze" would be) it didn't matter if he died or not, in their minds the command had been carried out. If someone in that crowd had interpreted as "freeze" as i would argue Jessica pretended to do. They would've stood there for hours until the pheromone was out of their system. I really loved the portrayal of Killgrave's power throughout the show. My favorite was when Jessica made Trish put the bullet in her mouth and then explained to her "the bullet is in your head", for her to register in her mind that the command was carried out. That showed that if you've dealt with Killgrave before, you can get your wits about you in terms of his power. She also did it before, when tricking Simpson into both thinking he had killed Trish and then thinking he had jumped off the building. If Trish had known that Killgrave's power works like that, she would've started looking for a solution and eventually would've thought of putting the bullet in her mouth. I wish they had shown that puzzle aspect to Killgrave's power more. But people dealing with him were mostly doing so for the first time. That's why they could only show Jessica solving those riddles. And granted, only some riddles are solvable. If your command has no loopholes there's no way around it.
7:18 Fun fact: When Kilgrave was introduced, he started out as a Daredevil villain. Daredevil was also immune to Kilgrave's mind control as well. I'm assuming because Daredevil & Jessica Jones were exposed to the same radioactive radiation chemical. The same one that infected the Spider that bit Spider-Man. Only difference is that the chemicals poured into Daredevil's eyes and the explosion impacted Jessica Jones's body
I thought Daredevil was immune because of the incredible mental discipline it takes for him to not be overwhelmed by the input of his own senses. I know there's a moment in the comics where Psylocke tries to read Daredevil's mind to beat him in a fight, and is nearly knocked unconscious from the sheer sensory overload Daredevil deals with constantly.
R.I.P., Kilgrave 😢... Most evil of villains in the MCU... May Thanos inherit your charmingly wonderful sadistic, manipulative and narcissistic ways. Hades knows that universe needs more frightening bad-ass bad guys.
In the world of comics it's always possible he could come back. Sadly disney didn't care that Tennant is one of the most well received and popular villains and they've just said "meh, whatever" and ignored him.
I actually like how she gets Trish to help her. During the whole season Jessica is always very reluctant to get other people involved in this mess. She thinks she's the only one who can deal with Kilgrave and that she has to face this on her own because she blames herself for Kilgrave's actions since she didn't kill him when she had the chance. Trish even calls her out on it. I think this last episode shows that Jessica finally understands that she needs help and can't do everything alone and that there's no shame in asking for help. It also shows that she now trusts Trish enough to get shit done, after all during the season Trish has shown that she's more than capable to hold her own.
Hes not like the joker, a true chaotic force, hes a realistic, human evil. A kind of evil that makes you sad because he could have turned out to be good if he was raised right.
Kilgrave is my top Marvel villain, then a tossup between Kingpin and Winter Soldier (I like Terminator/unrelenting-force-of-nature villains), then Loki. JJ is one of the best dramas ever created, with or without the superpowers.
Because Killgrave’s powers are virus based in the MCU they should theoretically work on any biological life form. Of course you could write that say Hulk has some sort of natural immunity but you could also say that he doesn’t too. It just depends who is writing such an encounter. Vision wouldn’t be effected but I reckon that anyone else on the team is fair game. There is an episode of avengers earth’s mightiest heroes where Vision wakes to a world ruled by purple man and the avengers.
Yea, they should have intoduced her backstory in season one, with a smaller villain and made killgrave the main villain of season 2 , like batman begins and the dark knight.
Kilgrave is my favorite villain! I don't know how the season 2 of JJ will be without him... Well, now is Daredevil! I can't wait! PS: I loved the purple light!
I think the thing with mind control and Avengers events is that alot of those incidents were essentially covered up by SHIELD, you see it with civilians being interviewed on the news post Battle of New York and you hear them say that there seems to be alot that aren't being told to the public - they know aliens attacked and a team took them on but most general public still don't really know the Avengers all that much and what stuff they are involved in, it's not exactly public record so most of the general population won't think on it because scientific based things and aliens could be explained but mind control is more or less magic and people will always have a hard time accepting magic
So continuously pleased by everything that you put up! Thank you for the hard work guys, I don't really comment, but I can't not comment after this series (and for once I'd already seen everything before you and didn't need to catch up lol)!
The thing with mind-control is, no one is willing to believe that someone's actions are not their own, unless proven otherwise, even in a world where people know super powers to be a new norm. It takes away the blame, and people need a face, not just a name, to blame for horrible things happening. On the other hand people who just want others to believe that what they did with their own free will, was not them but someone mind-controlling them, it creates a huge skepticism to many who listen to that. Also, believing in mind-control will mean one's action aren't their own, and to function without paranoia people need to not believe. :)
Danny Rand (Iron Fist) is Defenders' money; Jessica Jones is Defenders' private investigator; Matt Murdock or Jeryn Hogarth are Defenders' attourneys; Claire Temple is Defenders' nurse; Brett Mahoney is Defenders' man in the police; Melvin Potter is Defenders' weapon and costume engineer. Did I miss anything?
+Михаил Затрутин true, it seems like Luke Cage knows a lot of dangerous people in Harlem, I don't think it's dangerous gangs since Kingpins reputation as the greatest crimelord in New York/Marvel can't be topped. But who knows. from the looks of the trailer, it feels like a super hero show with a "street Hood" feel to it.
Great reaction guys! When it comes to the skepticism about mind control, I always thought it wasn't that it was hard to imagine it existing, just hard to prove so that's where the skepticism came from. Like everyone might claim the bad things they did were a result of mind control. I think they might even address it earlier in the season.

My big "i want to not hate kilgrave" moment was him texting Jeri. idk if this was the intention but so much about that scene made it obvious that kilgrave, in a lot of ways, is incredibly immature, which is what made the maybe Jessica can teach him stuff work for me.
No one remembers that when AoS started the official stance of Shield (and all most ever one else in the MCU) was that mind/psychic powers did not exist.
About the mind control thing around the 20 min mark. Mind control is just such a "convenient explanation" for crimes, you have to be skeptical even if you know it's something that can happen. Even in a post-avengers world, a mind control defense without proof would not fly is what i'm saying. In the case of Jessica the accounts from the people at the pier would lend credibility to the claim.
you know, if the MCU wants to always have their heroes fight each other, purple man was the perfect villain for an avengers movie lol i feel like he could have been a world threat, as he in Earth Mightiest heroes managed to actually rule the entire world
I know this is very late but I just discovered I hadn't finished watching this reaction. So a couple of points: Kilgrave started out as a Daredevil villain. I remember seeing somewhere that Daredevil is unaffected by Kilgrave's power but I'm sure someone can check me on that. Doctor Doom is also unaffected by his powers, so it probably has to do with strength of will. Someone like Luke Cage who is hesitant of his abilities, or a functional alcoholic like Jessica, probably lack the strength of conviction needed to resist Kilgrave. Frankly, as powerful a villain as he is/was/could have been, I don't know that I understand how he stayed off of SHIELD's radar.
Kilgrave aka the Purple Man has once controlled Iron Man and for a couple of days he made Iron Man into the emperor of the world until Vision stopped him.
I'm still hoping that Kilgrave comes back either in another Jessica Jones season or in another Marvel show or a Marvel movie somehow, he became my fav Marvel villain. Also because David Tennant did an amazing job! I'm hoping that he actually has a healing capability.

I hope Luke Cage keeps up the standard of these shows when it releases. So far, we've got 2 great shows in a row. Defenders is going to be great if this keeps up.
What are your thoughts that the last thing Kilgrave demanded/commanded was that Jessica smile? It's a bigger deal with women but I'm wondering what the male viewers thought.
I would suggest checking out the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes episode 'Emperor Stark' which is the Purple Man episode of the series. You can see what he does against the Avengers there.
Purple Man in the comics has healing powers and has "come back" from the dead before... So maybe he can come back next season! Probably not... but maybe. The MCU has a bad habit of killing off its villains... after watching this season I really wanted to see Purple Man fighting other superheroes, but of course he gets killed off. Sigh... at least Nuke didn't die, but knowing the MCU he will die off in his next appearance just like Crossbones.
I’m part why though doctor who and currently David tennant is the doctor. Kilgrave versus the Avengers? God, yes please.
