My belief is that Diana is buried in the church at Great Brington with her ancestors, after having watched a few videos on the subject matter she has more privacy there and is with her father as she wished. The church is in a beautiful setting and is also lined with motion sensors and CCTV, the island is a memorial to distract the crowds from the descending on the church.
It’s a very convincing theory and makes a lot of sense but so does the island. Diana used to row out there during her childhood and spends some of her time there (supposedly) and (also supposedly) hidden by the trees beyond the commemorative statue which marks the memorial is a private tomb to prevent water from getting to the coffin. So I don’t believe the coffin is buried but rather enclosed in some sort of a vault? But the church makes much sense.
Never mind the past. Where else would she have been buried? People made it impossible for her remains to be anywhere else. He did the right thing as guardian of the Spencer family name.
Carolyn Campbell It was not only up to Earl Spencer, as to where Diana was to be hurried. It was up to his siblings, their mother, and William and Harry. They all agreed that she should be on the family estate. This enables her family, particularly her sons, to pay tribute to their mother in private. It is a beautiful, and very tranquil place.
Carolyn Campbell Indeed he does, but the family are all happy that she is buried on the family estate. They can mourn her in private. Her late mother felt, that it was the right thing to do. She had said so in her authorized biography. It is a beautiful spot. The Earl had said, that even though the property is well protected, on three separate occasions, thiefs had tried enter the estate, and steal her body.
matijastupin I'm not criticising the decision. It does however, make me infinitely sad that as in life, she is in a secluded albeit beautiful place, alone. Where those who love her still, can continue to feel her close. Marilyn Monroe's grave is private yet among others of a sort. I hope the Earl is no longer remiss in the care of his sister's resting place. Though I believe his wife Karen has been instrumental in upgrading the entire estate especially Diana's place. That makes me feel better. 😇
Beautiful place. He must feel guilty that he was happy to use her for publicity and money after she died but when she needed a place there, publicity and interest were his reasons for not giving her a home.
And exactly that fact tells us that she wanted peace and be left alone. Loving people as a public person doesn't mean she wanted them in her life in private. William once said that she didn't and he found it very invasive when all and sundry claimed to know her when she died. He said she was his mother and people didn't know her at all and he thought it disturbing that they behaved like they did.

Looks like that necropolis has been turned into a commercially viable outfit that promulgates it's brand and generates revenue. There is an ice cream vendor near by to help visitors make the most of their time on the estate.
It was so disgusting how Diana’s brother profited and made money off of her death by suddenly making his estate a commercial venture with tours and Diana themed exhibits. It was totally tacky, tasteless and awful.
Wow. So wrong. The estate was always open to the public at certain times of the year. This did not change with the death of Diana. What happened was, of course, he brought his sister home to be buried. The Oval Lake. There is no way that she could have been buried anywhere else. If he had done nothing, the so called people would have been up in arms because he did nothing. He is not profiting by allowing the PUBLIC to view her resting spot on the little island on the lake. I think he should just stop it. Ban the public from HIS property.Let his sister rest in peace He did what he did by public demand. but, obviously some have the gall to think he did it for monetary gain. He does not need the publics money. He was doing what they wanted. Ingrates. Just stop all of this, shut the grounds down, and no one can, or will, intrude anymore.
@@neksy6178 He refused Diana residence at the Garden House within Althorp when she needed a place to stay after her separation from Charles to avoid the attention of the press. In death he chose where she was buried and now makes a fortune in tourists coming to pay their respects to Diana every year. It's clearly a conflict of interest for the sake of money.

Charles wanted Diana to stay at more private inner part of the estate rather than the one Diana wanted which was near the edge of the estate, which can compromise both her and the entire family's safety. He suggested other alternatives, but the princess refused.

When it comes to Princess Diana, I can’t help but cry..

matijastupin Ultimately it was the Earl's decision. He has last say on anything about his property. (His = Guardian).

The Althorp manor house has also been open for the public long ago even before Diana died. Charles mentioned it in one of his interview.
