Stabat Mater Dolorosa next! It's a 13th century Christian hymn they break out in the middle of this metal concert... and it's amazing! The song is about Mary's pain watching her son, Jesus, go through the crucifixion and these two goddesses do a superb job keeping this song alive in the 21st century!

Retrospect was a 3 hour show featuring a wide range of music from soft ballads, classical and metal. There is even another duet between Floor & Simone singing a 13th century Latin hymn.
Here are some of the highlights…
Unleashed (start here, symphonic metal at it’s best)- ua-cam.com/video/rxd6sxLxdys/v-deo.html
Chasing the Dragon (with sub-titles) (power ballad) - ua-cam.com/video/xvc_WXbVjAw/v-deo.html
Presto (classical instrumental duet between solo violinist and Epica’s lead guitarist) - ua-cam.com/video/kDsUjbOX3xg/v-deo.html
Stabat Mater Dolorosa (13th century latin hymn, duet between lead singer Simone and Floor Jansen) - ua-cam.com/video/nhtOORYTGx8/v-deo.html
    Delirium (soft ballad) - ua-cam.com/video/FAYPDf3Zk14/v-deo.html
The Divine Conspiracy (great collaboration with the orchestra)- ua-cam.com/video/a0TvrtinRWU/v-deo.html
Design Your Universe (closing number, spectacular) - ua-cam.com/video/9nlPx-HEpCU/v-deo.html

Finally more Epica Stacey! Thank you!😊 This show, the Retrospect was almost 3 hours long to celebrate 10th years anniversary of Epica extended with Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of National Theatre from Miskolc, Hungary. The full show was awesome, its must to watch the full concert. Fun fact, Simone was 3 months pregnant😉
Simone and Floor is very close friends as you seen in their chemistry. They did Stabat Mater Dolorosa in the same concert if you want to watch more from this angelic duo. But my suggestion with another unique voice ( feat Simone😅) is The Haunting from Kamelot live in Norway 2006. They have many connection to some musicians whos you know. The vocalist Roy Khan changed to Tommy Karevik who was the opposite leader in the Ayreon song The day that the world breaks down and at the keyboard is Oliver Palotai who is Simone's husband.

Such a great song and love hearing their voice together. As far as the production goes it's incredible. That many Clay Paky Sharpy beams (the little tiny moving light fixtures) create such a mesmerizing web of bright, powerful, and beautiful light beams that complement the music so well. Hats off to their lighting designer from another lighting designer.
Edit: Watching this video with my "pet" Clay Paky Sharpy (he's been retired from service after being burnt by Pyrotechnics) sitting on my shelf next to my desk. If it was a sentient being instead of a little light robot it would've loved seeing all of it's "friends" creating such a beautiful display of light for such a beautiful peace of music.

Hands down one of my favorite bands. Epica has such and rich and incredible music catalog.
What's even more impressive in that particular show is that Simome was pregnant, and yet, delivered heavenly vocals for about 3 hours

What I like about this, is as you mentioned the orchestra and choir, adding an extra layer to the music and concert experience. Something about an orchestra being incorporated into a rock / metal concert, adding an extra layer into the music.

This performance was at Epica's 10th anniversary celebration concert. The name of the concert is Retrospect. It's a great show from start to finish. Floor and Simone sang 2 songs together. This one and Stabat Mater Doloroso (maybe bad spelling for Doloroso). If you ever decide you want to do an entire concert in 1 reaction video Retrospect is one you should take into consideration.

So I will recommend a double feature for you 🤪. 1st After Forever "Follow in the Cry" Pinkpop live 2004. Young unbelievable Floor!!! And 2nd - EPICA (Sahara Dust) "Follow in the Cry" 20th anniversary 2022 live. Yes! Same song! Because of Mark BOTH bands made it. You will love it. Promised.

Stacy, from the same venue they sing a ancient hymne from 1726. Stabat mater dolorosa it is called. Special point from this hymne; the composer died 6 weeks after finishing the song. You do not believe your ears. And even more unbelievable is the fact how to silence a metal fan crowd who is complete in awe. Mind blowing. See you soon we hope.

Hello Stacey and cats! G'day from Oz again! Great job! The drummer here is Arien van Weesenbeek. He has been hitting things since he was 3yo according to his parents - lucky for their furniture he found his dad's drum-kit pretty quickly! Simone Simons has been, still is(?), a cosmetics model and is a good friend of Floor and Mark Jansen (Epica's male singer, no blood relation - he was in Floor's earlier band - he's in the spotlight at the end). Another vote for "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" from the same gig. More Epica epic epicness, please!? edit: Floor and Simone = Xena and Gabrielle but better!

A suggestion for Floor and simone singing together: Sweet Curse ua-cam.com/video/xmYzLIB6OjU/v-deo.html
This is a song from Floor's band Revamp with Simone as guest singer on the concert shown. It is not a HQ recording but sill good enough to enjoy. It is from the period around 2010 when Simone and Floor were probably closest to each other. Around that time, Revamp and Epica were touring together. I will also post some more links in the reply because if I post too many links in one post, it will be considered as spam by UA-cam.

There's another song (more like a classical piece) with Floor, which happened earlier in the 3 hour setlist and much more great songs from Epica
This band is really amazing and you'll probably love everything you hear from them
As for Ayreon, they have done the album The Source together (which has the song you listened to it), they have some songs they sing back and forth. No live version though, just the studio.

I am grateful to many good symphonic metal bands… Some are questionable in the metal true genre, but such as the likes of visions of Atlantis, within temptation, Delain, leaves’ Eyes, Therion, Nightwish etc. that were my gateway eventually up to the awesome greatness of Epica and Dimmu Borgir. By the way Stacy you’ll never see Nightwish performing live at the orchestra which Epica embraces it and has done it several times and have massive shows coming up this Fall in Amsterdam and Mexico with orchestra and choirs. Indeed I Highly encourage you to deep dive on Epica if you like your music heavier and on a grander scale you will be very pleased. Symphonic METAL done properly 🤘🏻

New sub here. I would recommend looking into Therion, a swedish Symphonic metal band who are considered pioneers of the symhonic metal genre. Depending on the time period/album the singers may be different as they only have a core of 5 of so members then work with other people where needed, i.e. live or studio.
    Songs I recommend would be:
The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah: ua-cam.com/video/eSEgFIcdTWI/v-deo.html
Birth of Venus Illegitima (OFFICIAL LIVE): ua-cam.com/video/4aU3r_54_34/v-deo.html

Maybe explore the band Kamelot. It's also symphonic metal. With a male lead singer. The current lead singer is awesome, and the previous singer as well.
Sirenia is an awesome band as well. A little bit more metal, but symphonic still

Metal history Lesson, back in 2000s the Symphonic metal was in its infancy with bands like Lacrimosa, After forever, and Tristania. but before them; HAGGARD set a standard that must be revised in this modern era. I invite you to check some of their tracks. they are a German Medieval ensemble mixed with death metal that paints beautiful medieval landscapes through their thematic albums. Nightwish and EPICA stand on the foundations that HAGGARD uncovered.

In this (very old) 2.5 minute video, ua-cam.com/video/LjvXo5GRvxI/v-deo.html you can see why Floor and Simone like each other so much. They go back a long way. Video was taken in Simone her apartment. And in this 3.5 minute video you can see the result of the practice session. ua-cam.com/video/1u6Uf4fwRJw/v-deo.html

These two women on stage give one hell of a performance! Have you seen Pink Floyd's "One Of These Days(I'm going to cut you into little pieces)" from the Pulse concert? You will see the famous inflated pigs flying about. Not quite orchestral metal, but close... and what a Bass line... Wow!
Hey Stacey, if you ever feel like giving us some more Led Zeppelin, then try "When The Levee Breaks" from John Paul Jones (playing for change)... ua-cam.com/video/LH0-WXUFY2k/v-deo.html. Thanks!

You, my friend, are an excellent reactor: you don't pause too much, you have great taste (and are open minded enough to discover new stuff), and you FEEL music above and beyond simply listening to it and enjoying it. You need to discover a Canadian musical genius by the name of Devin Townsend, he will make your pulse race and your heart soar in a similar way to Nightwish, Epica, Floyd etc. Check him out.
