Rocky's Recovery From a Spinal Stroke (FCE)

- Rocky was a happy, healthy Golden Retriever that started having difficulty walking on his back legs one day and eventually became paralyzed.
His family rushed him to the emergency hospital, where they were given some dire news, as it was suspected that Rocky had a spinal tumor or fracture. Luckily, he was referred to SEVN for advanced imaging that revealed a fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE) as the true cause of his paralysis.

My dog too.. faced the same situation... No worries... It just recovered in one week.... Initially it was unable to climb steps and can't even balance its body on its own legs😢...
But now it is fine happy to share ...
Anyone don't get panic they will be ok after few days..
yeah my dog got it 3 days ago. i was so scared
Thank you! Just going through it with my dog 😢
my dog is finally doing a bit better!!! she’s starting to shake her tail and move her feet!! we don’t really have to hold her when she try’s standing anymore! all we have to work on is really just working those back leggys!
We took our dog to the vet for the same reason they took an xray and said he spine was severed probably from running fast and hitting it just right. We brought him home on a Thursday to spend time with him before having to put him down. Sunday night my son saw his leg twitching. The next day there was more movement and within a month or so he was walking on his own
I didn't want to pay a vet again to get a wrong diagnosis but I googled it and assumed it was the same as this poor pup. He lived a fun few years after running and happy but now he is seven and the legs are getting weak and it's hard for him to get up. Just be careful when the vet says it's over and wait a week in case it's not a good vet or they dont know how to read xrays well. :(
Glad you followed your intuition, remained hopeful and that things worked out.
Not all vets are as equally comfortable with neurological problems.
Don’t be afraid to seek a second (or specialist) opinion, especially if something doesn’t seem right.
Hope your friend is running for many more years.
this happened to my dog. i used the sling like in the video to help him move around and also did mobility exercises to keep the muscles in his legs good.
Our Golden Retriever Macy 7?years, have just had this diagnose this tuesday, and we are really happy to Watch this clip as it gives us hope of good recovery with the right treatment - Thank you for sharing👍
Yay I'm so glad your dog can walk now. I think my dog had a stroke 2 and I'm nursing him. I hope he gets better as well. Thank you for the video
Is your dog better now
Never heard of that. But it turned out to be the best diagnosis with the best results. Glad you are still making special memories.
I’m praying this is our dogs issue. Her story matches Rocky’s. Getting mri this coming week. Praying for good news.
This is so amazing! My Brewtus also had a spinal stroke. It was an acute injury and the hemorrhage from the cartilage impacting his spine was too great and the doctors said surgery would be too risky. So he is our big paraplegic doggo now. I created a pully system in the house for him, maybe you want to check it out and leave me some feedback?
Glad Rocky recovered so well. Our golden retriever, Marley, had an FCE 2 weeks ago. He is recovering well but his hind left paw is still knuckling. How long did it take for Rocky's paws to turn the right way and do you have any tips to help Marley? Thanks.
Hello Hastron. We're glad Marley is recovering well so far.
Every dog is different and the prognosis depends on the severity of clinical signs. We recommend physical rehabilitation and nursing care to help dogs with FCE heal and recover. Be sure to consult with Marley's neurologist before proceeding. You can learn more about FCE in dogs on our website - sevneurology.com/pet-parents/conditions-we-treat/fibrocartilaginous-embolism/
😍
how long was the recovery
How long your dog recover well
Is there any chance that a 14 yo dog could recover from a spinal cord injury?
i think so. my dog got it 2 days ago.
Hope he recovers soon 🙏🏼 .. is he 14? Mine is not a small dog, the vets I spoke with didn’t recommend to do it 😢
no she’s a big dog and she’s 5
What did they do to make him walk again
Physical therapy and time. No surgery needed for this pet.
