Let's ruin a good joke, why don't we: The ship names he mentions Iktomi and Dehfranz are an out-of-universe joke, and an amusingly immature one at that. A Quarian's full title is [Given Name] Vas [Current Ship Name] Nar [Birth Ship Name]. As a result if an adult Quarian's ship was Iktomi or Dehfranz part of their title would be 'Vas Iktomi' or 'Vas Dehfranz', and that's where the joke comes in. The vas deferens, is an duct that connects to the male genitals. A vasectomy is a procedure to remove that same duct. Basically, the ship names were the writers making a balls joke. It's actually pretty well done, because it creates some irony that those are considered 'more respectable' ship names'. (Of course in universe only humans would find the ship names funny, and at that only English speaking ones.)
