It's strange for me to look at an F-15 and suddenly see a slightly obsolescent looking aircraft instead of "the best and most modern fighter in the world", which it always was when I was a kid. It's still a highly capable machine, but when you look at it, it no longer screams "high tech wave of the future". Basic design is 50 years old almost. Of course I'm just getting used to the fact that cars that were the brand new models when I was in hgih school are now verging on being "Classics". It's like "how can anything with a 2000" in front of it be a 'classic car'?" I understand better how when my dad talks about the '66 Mustang coupe he used to have, to him it was just an old sports car. To me, a '66 Mustang is like a legend.
What you said is kind of true and understable, however with proper upgrade programs at times classic aircrafts can keep on flying. Fun fact, the US air force is going to buy newly built F-15EX which is a brand new variant based on the Strike Eagle airframe and comes with better radar, avionics, weapon payload and variety and many more improvements! It is most likely the F-15EX is going to be bought and used by many other countries in the near future as well, Saudi Arabia already ordered their own version already. The Legendary Eagle will fly on for many more decades which makes me happy!! :))
if you think that the F15's service life is long, look at the B-52- that thing is going to see 100 years of use now, after the upgrade program a few years ago
Way larger than you'd expect. These things are supposed to fly which makes you believe it'll be relatively small, no, they're massive. Even single engine fighters are huge!
