Warsaw is one of my favourite cities. Poland as a whole is one of the absolute favourite European countries: extremely easy to get around, friendly and just nice country with great cities (not just Warsaw), good public transport, very safe, good food, good people and good value for money. A combination of good things that aren't that easy to come by in one place in Europe these days. And yes, this needs to be mentioned too: Poland doesn't seem have the social issues mostly related to failed immigration policies like we see in some (not all) other European countries which kept sticking to those bad policies despite them clearly not working as intended. So to answer the question "is Poland the greatest country in Europe?" I would say "perhaps".

Well said, the future won't be as cheap. Marketing that the country receives recently is attrackting many tourists and investors, so that will definitely have a negative impact on prices (from groceries to real estates) and on the level of ethnicity and safety (I'm not racist, I'm just saying that people would prefer selling properties to foreginers for better prices in euros rather than to locals with zlotys, who cannot afford buying in the EU-standard price range). But that was going to happen sooner or later anyway, since Poland "decided" to become a western country

Can't you understand that that's way they want to say that Germans are not responsible for Holocaust and all the crime were committed just by Nazists which were in all nations also in Poland, that is completely not true. You completely dont understand history and German histical policy. For Poles is extremely important to underline that it were Germans otherwise people might thing that death camps in Poland were establish and maintained not by Germans only but by Nazists which comes from many nations, and since they were located in Poland people might thing that that Nazists were also Poles. This is the purpose of German historical Policy to make people think this way.

    Please say Germans, not Nazis.
Implementing such vocabulary was a strategy intended to shift away the blame for the atrocities they committed in Poland and Europe.
They claim most Germans didn't agree with Nazi policies but it was in fact the majority of Germans who enabled Nazis (who were also Germans) to do anything at all by voting them into power.
It's disrespectful for the victims and their families to try to absolve their oppressors of even the smallest bit of blame. Please. It may seem like nothing but it means everything, especially in our eyes here in Poland.

27:00 Galeria Mokotów was constructed during 1998-2000, grand opening september 2000. I believe it was one of the very first shopping malls in Warsaw. Think it was Panorama('93), Promenada ('96), Klif ('99), Reduta ('99) and then Galeria Mokotów in 2000. But shopping centres in here are renovated regularly to look fresh. In Poland was a man called Czeslaw Klimuszko , he passed away in 1980. He left a few predictions , all of them was very optimistic for Poland. And when you read about his life , in my opinion he was a trustful person. He was very nice , intelligent , quiet, he didn't look for any money..... Was no Internet in his time's of his life. It is amazing that so often prople born in the former soviet union see all block of flats as soviet inheritance - also in French, Spanish or Scandinavian cities? :)

I have lived in Warsaw for 25 years and I wouldn't say U Fukiera is the best by a long mile and it is mainly a tourist restaurant which hardly any of the locals use.
More popular are the Stary Dom Restaurant and of course Bar Mleczny (Milk Bars) in Warsaw where the later serve authentic Polish food not like the gourmet Polish style of food that you would get in such places as U Fukiera, plus it is a fraction of the price.
Try and avoid the ones in the centre because again they are for the tourists and not the best and two of my favourites are Prasowy in Marszałkowska Street, and Rusałka in Floriańska street.

The Old Town of Warsaw was rebuilt based on very rich documentation (photos, architectural plans, drawings and paintings, starting from the 14th century, and films, starting from the end of the 19th century). Belotto Canaletto's paintings were important, but of course they were only one element. These paintings, painted in the 18th century, wonderfully showed the urban perspective of Warsaw. The Old Town is a historical reconstruction, especially since the foundations of the houses survived, and many fragments of the elevation and walls, which were used in the reconstruction. Medieval bricks were also used. That is why the Old City is on the UNESCO list, not because it looks so pretty. Warsaw is called a city-phoenix only because of the destruction caused by the Germans blowing up the entire city, house by house, during World War II. The destruction caused by the Swedes in the 17th century was not as great as that caused by the Germans, for God Sake. The Russians did not destroy Warsaw - do not tell nonsense. Yes, they destroyed large part of it that survived the war (fantastic Art Nouveau tenement houses on the commercial Chmielna Street). They did this on Stalin's orders to build the Palace of Culture and Science. Soviets also bombed Warsaw in 1939, when they attacked Poland, acting together with the Germans. But the destruction was not as great as that in 1944.

27:00 Westfield Mokotów (former Galeria Mokotów) was opened in 2000, so it's not brand new but was rebuilt several times since then. Not necessarily the best shopping mall in Warsaw...

    • @les69op
      @les69op 2 місяці тому

It depends on what you are looking for. Individual malls differ in what they offer and what products they have available. I think it's worth visiting Arkadia and Złote Tarasy but it's crowded there. I don't like crowds, so I prefer smaller ones like Galeria Północna with a graduation tower on the roof and a nice relaxation area, or the nearby Galeria Młociny. Of course, I recommend using public transport (subway and trams) - it's fast and convenient.
I almost forgot - Koneser and Fabryka Norblina. Both of them are not quite malls but worth a visit.
From the video it appears that you were in Złote Tarasy and almost in Fabryka Norblina ;)

Do not concentrate on big cities guys. Try some little hidden gems. Only 2 hours couch ride from Warsaw (from city centre), south east direction is little town, hidden in valley next to Vistula River. Called Kazimierz nad Wisłą. Surrounded by hills with beautiful foresty gorges and also fantastic places for foodies. Favourite place of artists like painters and photographers. Overcrowded during summer time, so I always go there in the autumn- in sunny October that place looks a bit like from a tale.

Besides the "Nazi" thing that the other are mentioning, please look out for the Maria Skłodowska-Curie, because saying only the "Curie" part is French apropriating this extraordinary Polish woman. She married Pierre Curie, but this doesn't make her French, she chose the surname Skłodowska-Curie to accentuate that, she named one of the radioactive isotopes "Polonium" after her home country.

They WERE NAZIS, and among them: Germans, Austrians, Latvians, Ukrainians, Norwegians and even Russians, not those from the Red Army but those who belonged to the Waffen SS. I mean The 29. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS „RONA”. The Warsaw Uprising began on the same day that Heinrich Himmler signed an order for the establishment of the division (1 August 1944). Part of the brigade was sent to Warsaw, where the unit again committed numerous atrocities. It murdered 10,000 Poles on the 19th of August alone. This is the historical truth.
Using the term "Germans" also miraculously removes responsibility for the crimes of World War II from the Austrians, who suffered no consequences after the war. It should be remembered that the personnel managing the extermination camps in Treblinka, Bełżec and Sobibór came mainly from Austria and Ukraine.

no, it was destroyed by national socialist (which btw. were also a left wing socialist variation. 'right wing' does not exist, thats a left wing projection which should be obvious) Germans back then in an older generation while no democratic Germans destroyed Warsaw. And the situation was in general back then a bit different, because you had nationalist/ethnic Slavic views as well (already before), because many parts of Europe became back then nationalist and got a focus on ethnicity back then. That wasnt just a mystical German thing (Germany was just among the most powerful nations). You also dont fight anti patriotism by trying to make Germany responsible, because its a socialist/left wing thing to blame others as Nazis while they - part of the entire problem as socialists (all socialists were more or less Nazis and are till this day antisemitic/antizionist - together with Islam the ones who spread it most over the world). Most Nazi and fascist movements (which btw. were also left wing - learn fucking history) were Marxist, many supported also the left wing/socialist/communist movements in Russia (and many old school left wings are doing that till this day). And history is also more complicated: most of the time a huge part of Poland was a mixed culture of Germans/Poles (or before Celtic, Germanic and Slavic tribes, sometimes working together, sometimes fighting like each others), later there were connections and cooperations with the Germnaic Frankish Empire, later the Holy Roman Empire. Many Polish cities were with a German majority and became also wealthy due to the Hanseatic League (which is why those cities were often in focus, also later by the Swedes etc.) and Prussia/Austria - which modernized a huge part of Poland basically all the time (in difference to Russia which itself got mostly the modern influences from the West)... in general the history of Central Europe is a quite mixed one (which is also why the architecture, city structures and mentality is quite similar) and most of the time rather dynastic ... and btw. you had also Polish German Nazis just like you had Polish people treading Jews bad and already before that attacking German communities which also caused rage against Polish ppl. The entire situation back than especially in those parts of Europe was very much a re-sorting also after a too ethnic focus -ä and Polish ppl did pretty much the same. Most decisions were also rather made along some ideological lines between the different socialist idiologies and none of those were any better ...

as for marriages, poles are marrying later than what was stated in the video. the average mariage age in poland was 28,4 years for women in 2022 (for men it was 30,7 years) and was not very different from other countries in the region (e.g. hungary 29,8 years, slovakia 29,2 years, croatia 28,9 years, lithuania 28,7 years, bulgaria 28,6 years, romania 28,0 years -> see marriage indicators on eurostat). of course, compared to other EU countries, religion and traditional values might still play a relatively significant role in poland, but the myth of poland as a supercatholic and conservative EU country is pretty outdated.

No, they weren't Nazis, they were GERMANS and they destroyed it the most efficiently of all, they did it better than the Allied air forces with cities in the Third Reich.
