- For this video, we hop in a very rare (at least here in the East Coast of the United States) Nissan S12! The S12 is a semi-forgotten car which is a shame. The S13 was the result of many lessons learned from this platform, and I go for a backroad cruise to appreciate this awesome Japanese Classic. Thanks for watching and Stay awesome! ThatDudeinBlue I had two of these in hatch version very good motors =)
ThatDudeinBlue OMG you did not just put getting jiggy wit it hahaha that's awesome
ThatDudeinBlue missing front mudflaps or was that an option?
Brain: Its an ae86
Me: No its not
Brain: Yes it is
Me: Stahp
Grammar police here.. you spelled brain wrong . Its Brian.. I'm going to let you off with a warning next time your getting a ticket !!

I almost bought an S12 200SX for my first car, mostly because I thought it looked cool and I liked that it was a 5 speed... I didn't buy it because it wasn't running, and I strongly regret that decision.
In Australia they're called Nissan Gazelle's. Saw a blue hatchback version with black louvered windows on the back, it looked so sweet! I nicknamed it the Kawaii De Lorean.
Still have two of them, S12s are the absolute best since they never ever rust I swear
I had a 4 cylinder hatch back. Loved that car. Manual transmission.
I had a black hatch s12 back in 89. Five speed. Only thing done was chopped springs and ansa exhaust. Loved that thing
ooooohhhh, i thought this was part of the Z series. turns out its a Silvia. shit, i learned something today
I had an 87? I think, S12 that was well known in the Okanagan and Vancouver. It was rb20de+t swapped and had a Tiffany blue and black paint job. It’s too bad it just got tossed around and tore apart from the owner after me.
Also I had one back in highschool (2014 was when I graduated) and that 200sx Was a 1986 and had a Ca18et and it was sooooo reliable and the car I actually learned to time attack and touge the Okanagan back roads.
I love hearing you young guys talk about the older cars,. I wrecked one of those car is on the touge about 10 years ago. A really nice one in fact it was the nicest track car I ever had. a piece of history , digital dash only came on the turbo model of that car, yes there was a turbo model. very low numbers and a limited slip differential. that dash panel is swapped out of one of the turbo cars. That and the limited slip was a common modification back in those days
The digital dash was an optional extra that was part of the $1500 electronic xe pack that any of the s12's could have if it was ordered with it this one was a fully optioned xe with sunroof i bought two and some change years ago off the original owner
found a pic of it !!! goo.gl/photos/tynAHgocgYqRr6ep8
found a bunch of old pics 1991 goo.gl/photos/NT2EXC1XWXXr6nGh7

This brings back some memories, my mom had the s10 and always thought this is a classy car
picked up my 87 s12 for 700 bucks 4 years ago, still going strong
That is such a cool car! I love cars like that, that are super advanced for the time. For example my father just sold his 1964 Cadillac Fleetwood that had power windows, vacuum locks (lock/unlock all doors with one button), and a sensor that sensed oncoming traffic and automatically turned the hi-beams off. No I didn't make that last one up I'm serious.
I had one. Was shockingly 80s but so much fun! That CA20 engine sucked though. It had this really awful tape deck that was embedded in the console and you couldn't get rid of it! But the sunroof and all the electrics were mad. Very expensive car back in the day. Always wanted to replace it with the FJ20T which is a bit long in the tooth these days
just seen a dark grey s12 at a shop down the street from me also. there's also a black fb rx7 at a house around corner from two of my dream Japanese cars.
Wish these were more popular. I love the body style
Hey David, could you please talk about why SubaruWRXFan wasn't invited to the Pittsburgh subscriber meet? It would be wrong to ignore so many of your subscribers who want to know, especially because Matt is the only one who is responding.
He dumb
This car should have a huge following
This video made me happy being a owner of a S12 , it was a gift from my mom and I've always been a fan of box cars! , its not the 86 but its the 87 and needs a lot work, A LOT haha. Someday I will have some extra cash to fix it up nice :)
I have an 1986 hatchback S12. I love it
Finally a review of the Forgotten Silvia...
If you get the chance, a Cressida or Soarer could be a neat 80s early 90s import to review
Really great to see a a modern review about this car.
I just wish parts were't so frustratingly hard to find for it especially for the FJ20e engine.
There was one of these for sale near my house not long ago, wish I would've jumped on it.
i love boxy 80's cars man, this is on my wishlist haha
If you ever get the chance to review a 2nd gen MR2 don't pass it up! I'd very much like to see your impressions with one. Keep up the awesome reviews.
In Japan its known as a "gazelle" and there was a turbo with a ca18det. it had a hood scoop. I had a chance to buy one. but the car didnt start. Its something I regreted not buying
Daniel Garcia its something i regret selling my 87 was also avail with the vg30de 160 hp v6
One was just for sale out by me in NEPA
Just sold my S12 hatch yesterday.. 190whp with the ca18et beast :P
I saw one of these yesterday when I was in my s13! I was like hey friend!
+RoadTripsAndSkateTips Where were you? Chances are I know them if it was modified.
New to this channel and im loving it! Really informative, and your voice isnt annoying hahah.
For a split second, I thought it was the same car that Mr. Regular reviewed today ahaha
It looks like an Olds Cutlass with pop-up headlights
I just noticed you've never done a full ae86 review
i think japan and Europe has the S12 Silvia ZX w/ OE turbo.
i would like to see a 95 200sx ser with or without a sr20
You should review a Toyota Cressida sometime!
One of these are for sale on craigslist in the VA area this might be it
It is same plates
Review a mx73 Cressida! Its pretty similar to the s12, but luxury. I'd let you review mine, but i'm in hawaii. lol
Those rims dished 😍
i miss my nissan 200 sx
do a Nissan pulsar with the weird hatch
Rb swap would be clean
I would've loved to do that but in hindsight, I am very glad I didn't. It wound up with a KA24DE and I made it look completely original to the car as if it had never been swapped. All the original plastics around the engine bay still remain and none of the engine is painted. I am much happier with the balance an inline-four provides to the car.
Know all about Ryans toils with that car from the day he got it to now lol
Reminds me of the Nissan Exa. Did you guys get that in the states?
Erhh wouldn't say the CA20E motor help make the skyline motors it would be more like the CA18DET. They had the CA20E motor in the 1987 nissan pintara.... Worst thing they ever did, car was way too heavy for the motor output. Should of put the CA18DET motor in them even though there same block pretty much. Ive heard stories of people putting the CA18DE heads on the CA20's. However the DOHC/SOHC manifolds are different and the timing pulley/belts are not compatible. However there is boreing out kits to make the CA18DE to a CA20DE.......Heavy breathing all round.
The CA20E motors are known for blowing up heads and lacking oil pressure which turns into rod knocks.....WIshed they made the CA18DET in 1986 instead of 1987 because in sure they would of put them into the 200sx s12.
didn't the ae86 have a digital gauge cluster?
Digital dash isnt that surprising. Nissan did the digital dash on the 280zx
Found one that looked super beat, eventually found the owner. 40 year old chick building it to drift it, wouldn't consider selling it. Fuck
Review a GTIR!!
First time I saw one at a car show I thought it was an AE86.
I felt so betrayed when I found out it was an S12.
I also felt like a complete idiot.
Hahaha they definitely look similar
Haha yeah everyone makes that mistake, no worries!
That's okay, everyone thinks my ae86 coupe is a Celica.
Boosted Don't feel so bad... I thought it looked like a Nissan Pulsar from the front
Boosted the 200 looks better. so there is no betrayel
I have an S12 hatchback. Love it so much. Mine has 3.0 v6 from the z31. And its from the Factory, for USDM only. Only S chassis to get a V6 i believe. Thanks for showing this!!
Elicansmile Now that would have enough horsepower to be interesting. The 4cyl version that I had was ho hum.
hell yea bro that’s awesome
@@clayz1 kaswap
Imagine if Takumi drove this...
We would be talking about the AE86 like the S12.
Mr. Regular reviews an S13. David reviews an S12. Touché.
***** IT WAS ALL NEAL
Andrew Cathcart Our saviour, NEAL, has given us these Silvia reviews to say "The power of NEAL is REAL. Down with Fink. EM is dead. Only the REAL will KNEEL before the power of NEAL."
***** dude dammit where the hell is this from??? Did I miss a mr.regular video or something?
Prince Charming He... he doesn't about NEAL?
EVERYONE KNOWS NEAL. EVERYONE KNOWS NEAL IS REAL. YOU must be.. one of THEM.
YOU... must belong to FINK. DOWN WITH FINK. DOWN WITH FINK. DOWN WITH FINK.
Andrew Cathcart ...can you help?
You should review those ducks in the beginning.
Jokes aside, love the S12! One of my favorite S-Chassis cars!
I was thinking the same thing lmao
I tried riding one. Didn't go well.
Those are definitely geese, just fyi
ThatDudeinBlue this is why is subscribed lmao :')
ThatDudeinBlue this is why i subscribed. Lmao :')
That was my FAV car ever! Wrecked it when I was pregnant with the guy in the pic. Ugh.
I had a Nissan 200SX. I loved that car. It's still my favorite car.
they are great
hey i know this comment is from 4 years ago but im thinking of getting my first car, is this a good option? if so how rare is it to find one of these?
My best friend had two of those, hatchback and fully optioned out, with five speed manuals. The first one we totalled out when a drunk pulled out in front of us at a light which payed for the second one. They we're pretty cool cars with a stick. I would have thought it had a higher bhp than 90. And yes, I'm old. I'm 53. My friends mom had a coupe with an auto. It was a metallic orange. The interior was dark gray with orange accents.
His first car was dark blue with a blue interior and the second was white with blue interior.
During that time I was driving a '73 Maverick with a 302 and 3 speed stick. Blue with black interior.
you can get shocks for that car at autozone lol.
I can confirm I work at autozone in mission Texas and we have them for 70 monotube shocks
Not performance ones
I’m sorry for sounding dumb but what are shocks?
@@georgellamas7286 shock absorber
Were this an import from Japan, you could get it with the FJ20 turbo engine or the CA18 turbo. Sure it is not an S20, but for the late 80s, the CA18 was a pretty decent engine.
PacificCoastAuto FJ20 was the best, probably better than the SR20DET, it certainly is stronger.
Super_Slav better than the mighty sr20 :O
Jaheel Frederick
Most likely, I like both engines just as much, but the SR20 is a better daily driver.
I love the sr20
+Jaheel Frederick Definitely better than the SR, way stronger and will produce good power so much more easily. Ca18 is also a good motor, they often need a little more work to get up to spec, but once you do that they can be monsters.
0:17 ... it has a keypad to unlock the door? this thing is reaching Toyota Crown coolness levels
Awwwww hell yeah. It's so rad. So much technology in this old car.
yeee
My mom has the manual shift, fastback version of this car. She stopped driving it about 15 years ago because the clutch was too stiff at age 65. My stepdad got it in perfect condition and mothballed it in the garage. She also had a Mazda Miata, 2 68' Mustangs, and a 67' MG convertible. She's almost 80, but loved her sports cars.
I bought my 86 notch from a customer when I worked at pep boys for $200 and slowly built it with parts I can find and some custom, it was the funnest car I ever owned and my brother crashed it trying to drift it. 10 years later I want to build another one! Great video
Whenever you say S10 my mind goes to the Chevy truck. Especially because my friend that lives with me has a 1994 S10 LS
RevoltTrain ayy
Its really S110 but some people say S10.
Gofspar Gofspar Ayye fam
ayyyy, learned to drive manual on my dad's S10, so it's also what i first thought
Actually from 1977-1979 there was the Datsun 200sx (S10) then 1980-1983 was the Datsun 200sx (S110) and so on.
I had one of these a long time ago and absolutely loved it!! It was like a burgundy/maroon type color and of course it was a 5spd. I miss that car!!
I had one of these in the early-mid 90s!!!! Was a fun cool car! This was right when the aftermarket wheel industry finally figured out what looked cool; i.e. low profile rims!!!! 😅 telling my age here! 🤓👴🏽🤡🤣 Good review!
Nissan; Bring back SX/Silvia!!!!!🥺🙏🏾😅
I have a 1987 Nissan 200sx xe coupe. It's black with tan interior, manual, no digital dash, the whole thing is 100% stock. I bought it off the original owner just in April :)
It's a rare car and even more so if you consider I live in Ontario Canada.
dude nice
My grandpa used to have one back in the 90's, he tuned it with my uncle's help, and won national rallies in my country. I am looking to buy it again since used cars in my country are a bit devalued; it was an imported USA S12 200SX, but with the original swapped to a Japanese specifications Silvia S12 engine since my uncle blew up the first one in a rally, the headgaskets were destroyed.
These were hugely popular for rallying, very cool!
Got a 85 200sx automatic transmission very little rust body is straight
Sad story time: I had one of these in high school, my uncle sold it to me for two hundred bucks.... if only I knew then what I knew now I would probably still have that car among other cars as well
Hey David the generation for the S-Chassis here in the states goes as this. 1977-1979 Datsun 200sx (S10), 1980-1983 Datsun 200sx (S110) and so on. I'm actually acquiring a 1977 Datsun 200sx that's lowered and has fender flares, has an automatic 3 speed, L20B sohc inline 4. Funny thing is I featured this same car once on my Instagram Datsun page, and it's nice to see these still around I see S12 from time to time.
Kick ass s12 ThatDudeinBlue must be so fun driving a lot of different cars.... And learning and showing us more a bout car culture.
hey david just thought id let you know next year i plan on driving down from canada in something with a engine to your local meet in hopes of meeting you. youve got me throgh some tough times in highschool a may have been bullyed for being a fruit but i always had your videos
wtf dude
+Brandon Clarke Same, I wanna go but i'm in PEI
***** BRUH SAME HERE 2 PERSON FAN MEEET
+Brandon Clarke Sweet man!
I own an 85 S12 with 78,000 miles. I just drove it from NC to Nashville and ran The Tail of the Dragon on the way. Mine is a 5 speed, all original and gorgeous! Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed this one!
Saw one of these in the parkinglot of best buy. At first glance, it looked like and 86, but the rear end was wrong as well as the grill. It was the same panda color too.
and the s12 200sx doesnt have a green dash lights it came stock with orange dash lights. if it has green they have been changed.
Nonya Btnes it probably has the DIGI dash that has green lights
I had a 1986 XE, it has 102hp, four wheel independent suspension and with four wheel disk brakes, it had a five speed which was supper smooth and new it had really good power on the high end, first gear was nothing but a creeper, all the life was on the high end, top speed was 120 mph. It was known to be one of the most reliable cars Nissan ever produced. It corners like it was on rails. I one I had was the NAPS-X it had 8 spark plugs. The XE also had a microprocessor that connect two aerials for radio, it would use the strongest signal one was imbedded in the back window.
Shit now I think I should get an s12 as my first car lol
If you could find one that would be sweet
You don't want one lol
Theres a cheap one on craigslist in my area i'm not sure if i should get it or a turbo diesel car
***** nah get it
Believe it or not it’s a factory Frankenstein, front end is from a 280 and rear end is from a 300! I had a late 85 notchback with the CA20 and made a few mods. Mostly all custom since nobody made anything aftermarket
Hell yea. I’m building a Nissan S12 right now. It’s gonna be a drag car tho lol
Nite Mare200 -- I think I saw a photo of yours in the S12 groups on Facebook perhaps and my jaw dropped. Love it so much man.
I have one question david. I know you will not answer this but there's a good chance you'll see this. You can make a video about thomas and talk about how we are all family and cry on youtube but you do not have the balls to stand up to DoctaM3 and invite subaruwrxfan to a meet in his home town? Are you kidding me. So is it acceptable for me to come to your house and throw a party and say david you are not invited. I don't know about anyone else and I'm only one subscriber but I have lost some respect for all of you. Yes subaruwrxfan has done some stupid things but if I am not mistaking he is a human and so is everyone else, know one is perfect.
Not sure how I've never seen this video until now ! I love these things I used to have a 1.8 turbo - wish I still had it, sadly long gone though :/
ca18et was one of those mysterious engines that matched the car better than the v6
i have one for sale but it’s the non turboed version
Yay! The S12 gets some love!
SO HYPED FOR THE NEXT REVIEW!!!!! #ItsWhiteNoise Great Video As Always
I believe the automatic was actually the option and the 5 spd was standard.
You should try to get a 1987 Buick Grand National to review!!
Ive always been a fan of these. Too bad to didn't find a turbo CA18 or a VG30 model.
heck yeah a s12 dont see many of them any more only know of one in the state of az your not joking about the backseat i rode in the back of one that is no joke if your super tall like me
Just bought one today for 1.5k still possible lmao
Absolutely, no tax has hit these quite yet. They have gone up in price but I don't think they are selling for that amount. I bought the one in this video 7 years ago now for $1,700.
Wow this is pretty cool. The forgotten Silvia.
Then you get hit by a smart car, and the smart car wins xD
Without a keen eye you could mistake the S12 for AE86 Sedan.
This was my first car! 1986! But I had mine in 2000 lol
I am picking up an 88 S12 hatchback with a vg30et swap that's running 506whp for 2100!
Deals are still out there! I got the car in this video for $1,700 about 7 years ago now.
I had a black 1984 version of this car when I was 16 i called it Kit because it can talk.
I really want to find one of the fully loaded ones... miss these cars
they have air flow sensor problems $$, other then that there good
Such a beautiful car, great review! 💙 them s12!
Someone has two ae86 and a 200sx layin around near me
i think im one of the only person that appreciates ur cinematography and editing
0:02 Look at all those chickens!!
Bringing my car to the states in like 8 months. If you like that car I think you'll like mine. Check it out on my UA-cam channel. 1986 Nissan skyline passage gt "R31" rb20et. Everything is original.
