  • For this video, we hop in a very rare (at least here in the East Coast of the United States) Nissan S12! The S12 is a semi-forgotten car which is a shame. The S13 was the result of many lessons learned from this platform, and I go for a backroad cruise to appreciate this awesome Japanese Classic. Thanks for watching and Stay awesome! I almost bought an S12 200SX for my first car, mostly because I thought it looked cool and I liked that it was a 5 speed... I didn't buy it because it wasn't running, and I strongly regret that decision.

In Australia they're called Nissan Gazelle's. Saw a blue hatchback version with black louvered windows on the back, it looked so sweet! I nicknamed it the Kawaii De Lorean.

I had an 87? I think, S12 that was well known in the Okanagan and Vancouver. It was rb20de+t swapped and had a Tiffany blue and black paint job. It’s too bad it just got tossed around and tore apart from the owner after me.
Also I had one back in highschool (2014 was when I graduated) and that 200sx Was a 1986 and had a Ca18et and it was sooooo reliable and the car I actually learned to time attack and touge the Okanagan back roads.

I love hearing you young guys talk about the older cars,. I wrecked one of those car is on the touge about 10 years ago. A really nice one in fact it was the nicest track car I ever had. a piece of history , digital dash only came on the turbo model of that car, yes there was a turbo model. very low numbers and a limited slip differential. that dash panel is swapped out of one of the turbo cars. That and the limited slip was a common modification back in those days

    • @MOPARLOWSRD
      @MOPARLOWSRD 9 років тому +1

The digital dash was an optional extra that was part of the $1500 electronic xe pack that any of the s12's could have if it was ordered with it this one was a fully optioned xe with sunroof i bought two and some change years ago off the original owner

That is such a cool car! I love cars like that, that are super advanced for the time. For example my father just sold his 1964 Cadillac Fleetwood that had power windows, vacuum locks (lock/unlock all doors with one button), and a sensor that sensed oncoming traffic and automatically turned the hi-beams off. No I didn't make that last one up I'm serious.

  • @matthiashayward

I had one. Was shockingly 80s but so much fun! That CA20 engine sucked though. It had this really awful tape deck that was embedded in the console and you couldn't get rid of it! But the sunroof and all the electrics were mad. Very expensive car back in the day. Always wanted to replace it with the FJ20T which is a bit long in the tooth these days

I would've loved to do that but in hindsight, I am very glad I didn't. It wound up with a KA24DE and I made it look completely original to the car as if it had never been swapped. All the original plastics around the engine bay still remain and none of the engine is painted. I am much happier with the balance an inline-four provides to the car.

Erhh wouldn't say the CA20E motor help make the skyline motors it would be more like the CA18DET. They had the CA20E motor in the 1987 nissan pintara.... Worst thing they ever did, car was way too heavy for the motor output. Should of put the CA18DET motor in them even though there same block pretty much. Ive heard stories of people putting the CA18DE heads on the CA20's. However the DOHC/SOHC manifolds are different and the timing pulley/belts are not compatible. However there is boreing out kits to make the CA18DE to a CA20DE.......Heavy breathing all round.
The CA20E motors are known for blowing up heads and lacking oil pressure which turns into rod knocks.....WIshed they made the CA18DET in 1986 instead of 1987 because in sure they would of put them into the 200sx s12.

The first one we totalled out when a drunk pulled out in front of us at a light which payed for the second one. They we're pretty cool cars with a stick. I would have thought it had a higher bhp than 90. And yes, I'm old. I'm 53. My friends mom had a coupe with an auto. It was a metallic orange. The interior was dark gray with orange accents.

I have a 1987 Nissan 200sx xe coupe. It's black with tan interior, manual, no digital dash, the whole thing is 100% stock. I bought it off the original owner just in April :)
It's a rare car and even more so if you consider I live in Ontario Canada.

My grandpa used to have one back in the 90's, he tuned it with my uncle's help, and won national rallies in my country. I am looking to buy it again since used cars in my country are a bit devalued; it was an imported USA S12 200SX, but with the original swapped to a Japanese specifications Silvia S12 engine since my uncle blew up the first one in a rally, the headgaskets were destroyed.

These were hugely popular for rallying, very cool!

Hey David the generation for the S-Chassis here in the states goes as this. 1977-1979 Datsun 200sx (S10), 1980-1983 Datsun 200sx (S110) and so on. I'm actually acquiring a 1977 Datsun 200sx that's lowered and has fender flares, has an automatic 3 speed, L20B sohc inline 4. Funny thing is I featured this same car once on my Instagram Datsun page, and it's nice to see these still around I see S12 from time to time.

Saw one of these in the parkinglot of best buy. At first glance, it looked like and 86, but the rear end was wrong as well as the grill. It was the same panda color too.

I had a 1986 XE, it has 102hp, four wheel independent suspension and with four wheel disk brakes, it had a five speed which was supper smooth and new it had really good power on the high end, first gear was nothing but a creeper, all the life was on the high end, top speed was 120 mph. It was known to be one of the most reliable cars Nissan ever produced. It corners like it was on rails. I one I had was the NAPS-X it had 8 spark plugs. The XE also had a microprocessor that connect two aerials for radio, it would use the strongest signal one was imbedded in the back window.

Believe it or not it’s a factory Frankenstein, front end is from a 280 and rear end is from a 300! I had a late 85 notchback with the CA20 and made a few mods. Mostly all custom since nobody made anything aftermarket

I have one question david. I know you will not answer this but there's a good chance you'll see this. You can make a video about thomas and talk about how we are all family and cry on youtube but you do not have the balls to stand up to DoctaM3 and invite subaruwrxfan to a meet in his home town? Are you kidding me. So is it acceptable for me to come to your house and throw a party and say david you are not invited. I don't know about anyone else and I'm only one subscriber but I have lost some respect for all of you. Yes subaruwrxfan has done some stupid things but if I am not mistaking he is a human and so is everyone else, know one is perfect.
