Maybe things are different in America, but here in the uk I have seen plenty of female pilots and chefs! Was hoping they would be speaking to builders, electricians etc
We have plenty of women that are pilots, chefs. And even rocket scientists. Where are the plumbers, sanitation workers, armored guards, coal miners, etc..
I'm so disappointed by this video. I'm an industrial mechanic, I fix gearboxes, ac and dc motors, pumps, etc and it's hard for me to find other places to work because recruiters see my first name on my resume and don't even read the rest. They automatically count me out because I'm a female even though I've worked in two different male dominated industries that required skilled labor. I have the skills, but alas, my name is kate and not kenny
The only reason I got my current job is that my name is unisex and my boss thought I was a man. My boss admitted this to me, I work as a facilities attendant, (all my coworkers are male and I got lucky because they are great), he didn't intend on hiring a girl, but after he met me he still hired me on the spot. I am very thankful he did. I love that job. It's awful that we have to go through this.
HVAC Technician and no one told me just how hard it would be for us women in this industry...I knew it would be difficult alil but dam...its like I don't even fit in...
Certainly in the UK I am seeing a lot more women in director / management roles, which is awesome. I have also seen first hand sexism in the workplace. As an IT guy in the course of my work I have periodically seen things such as e-mails, the content of which totally crossed the line. I have a duty of care to my customers (the businesses), and when these have been reported back, I am thankful to say every-time it has been treated seriously, and with the compassion it deserves. My thoughts on this from my limited experience are to report any incidents back to your manager / director, there is no place in the workspace for sexism/racism/ageism or any other discriminatory behaviour.
I'm going into pipe trade this year and I'm kinda nervous because I'm probably going to be the only woman in every class. I'm mentally and psychically preparing myself to deal with whatever this class throws at me.
I wish you all the best! See if you can find supports outside the class (online or visiting workplaces and see if you can speak to any female workers to get pointers). You can do it!
Look at the comments from men. I'm a landscaper and let me tell you, beinga woman in a male dominated industry is difficult asf. Most women I know quit not cuz they can't handle the work but because they can't handle the sexism. Men take the idea that we should "stay in our place" much more seriously than most women will ever understand. All these years and I promise you the attitudes of most men have not changed one bit. This aint for the faint hearted. Not to discourage, just keeping it real.
No. Women quit because the work is difficult. I've never heard a woman say, "I want to be a landscaper". As soon as they can, they move on to better jobs.
@@nerychristian, cause accept the fact that no one wants to do it. If you can provide yourself a comfortable life then even a man will not do it. Basic common sense is dead in men these days
I studied & trained in a profession that is 98% female. I was not welcome. The tutors treated me like I was there for some nefarious reason, then when I entered the job experience I was made to feel so unwelcome & uncomfortable that I had to give it up. I conducted myself with nothing but polite & professional behaviour, yet was still treated like I was there just to score phone numbers, yet I never once attempted to chat up a single female. The profession was vet nursing. I didn't care it didn't pay much, I wanted to help animals, but was made to feel like a perv. I am not some gross older bloke either. I was in my early 30's & above average in looks, well spoken, polite & respectful. At the time I had a long term girlfriend so was not interested in a single one of them anyway. It was obvious that as a male I simply was not welcome in this female dominated profession. So it's not just men who deal with sexism in certain industries. men just don't complain about it so you never hear stories like mine.
I worked in an office that was 10 girls and myself and my line manager who were blokes. The girls would tell me they introduce themselves with low cut tops saying they have boyfriends which I found offensive as I wasn't here to chat them up but earn my living. I find it offensive that I was thought to be there automatically to chat them up
The interesting question here is: how do you know that you are safe to continue your path? Being a woman in any career seems to be fraught with hurdles - this is really appalling to me, as a woman who was taught and encouraged to be anything I wanted to be.
I hate the idea that men even if they work hard, they get catoragized as "just being able to", like they worked to get there. Women don't get the jobs because they don't like the jobs or don't work hard enough for it, one of the main reasons is these videos try to tell girls that they have to work a lot harder, and so they try not to do it.
Good for you, theirs about 3 billion more woman that could do the same..."I can create." You can't be special because of something you did obtain by yourself.
