How To Remove a 1994-2001 Integra Front Bumper Skin
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- I needed to remove the front bumper skin on my 2001 Acura Integra so that I could repair my front license plate holder and also recondition the headlights. Since this is a common issue on this car, I thought I would make a video showing how to do this procedure.
It's not that difficult. Probably the biggest take away is to be sure that you remove the screws hidden behind the fender liner. Also be sure to use an impact driver when removing the upper retaining screws. Not a bad idea to soak them with some penetrating oil also.
Otherwise, a pretty straightforward operation.
If you want to see more detail on how I did my license repair, and headlight reconditioning, here's a link to that video:

great tutorial. this shouldn't be that big of a deal but it's nice to be able to see a video that lays everything out as simply as it should be :)
Loved the video, I'm gonna have to do this soon... could you also do one of the rear bumper?
That rusted plate has lasted well, the front of the car looks great too, nice car :-D.
i bought a manual impact like yours 33 years ago, still going strong, worth every penny :-).
The license plate rust is a common issue with this car in this area of the country (rust belt). It was nice to have this opportunity to showcase how to access it. Thanks for your comments as always.
This will actually come in handy for me, kind of a coincidence. My friend is about to pull off his front bumper and replace it with the Japanese spec Honda Integra front bumper and headlights. It looks a bit more like the front end of an accord or the 90-93 integra, no bubble lights which seem to be a love or hate kind of thing. This video will definitely be useful, thanks.
I'm happy to hear it will help. Good luck with the swap.
Thanks for the wonderful information as always, I'm paying closer attention to the tools being used.... As we all know, it's always better to use the right tools for the job. Speaking of which, the impact driver you used caught my attention. Years ago my dad gave me a tool just like that one, I never knew what or how to use it, until now. Thanks again and thanks Dad for your gift.
I'm always waiting for Eric to go Rrrrrrr when he says gsr, just wait for it you know its coming
Eric I love these videos on the GSR you need for make more I have a 99 gsr 4dr
Perfect! I just bought a 2000 Type R and it has a cracked bumper skin, so this makes it easy to pull it off to repair. Thanks.
Needed to take off my front bumper to install my turbo intercooler... Thanks Eric :)
great video, thanks Eric! Great hint on "pull straight out to release clips". that's good to know
eric is the only guy in history that calls it bumper skin lol
Eric your the best. You explain it very clear and make it look so easy. I have a question for you. Do you have a video showing how to change the oil pump o-ring. I have a bad leak on my 2001 integra. Thanks in advance.
Awesome and detailed! I must remove the bumper skin on a 2nd gen Integra soon 90-93 and I'm not looking forward to it, is it easier? Do the headlights have to come out first? Thanks Eric!
Idk something tells me @EricTheCarGuy and Mike Rowe might get along pretty darn well, they might even end up partnering and opening another shop.
Great video! Keep up the integra videos!
Thanks for the video Eric
What's up Eric! I rear ended a car with my Integra it was very minor nothing is broken but it did push the bumper in a bit and made my hood pop up. Any ideas what it takes to make everything line up again?? Thanks for all of your helpful vids!!
great video Eric helped a lot I have a question about installing aftermarket fog lights on the Acura Integra. the harness that came with the kit cost for using the brown plugs already existing underneath the dashboard. how do I get power from the fuse box or do i have to use the car battery?
can you do a video of how to remove side skirt and rear bumper on a Acura Integra like this one?
Very detailed video keep up the great work.
Awesome videos. Quick and shows everything easy and cuts the bullshit out that most people dont
Eric, Integra related...Where does the dipstick enter in to the oil pan? I get wildly different readings when the cars drivers side is higher than the passenger side as opposed to flat ground.
Love your videos bud!
Awesome! will there be a Integra or Fairmont video on Friday? =)
You live where it snows. right? Some of us live where it snows and it would be nice to have some sort of knowledge of installing some snow chains. Can you make a video on how to install some snow chains? Thanks!
Good video
I had to remove the front bumper on my 2000 Civic to replace the license plate, because it had rusted like yours did.
Have you ever done the hood latch cable relocation mod? It came up way back when these GS-Rs were new. Basically you relocate the latch cable so that it sits inside the engine compartment rather than hanging inside the left fender, keeping thieves from being able to pull on the cable and opening the hood.
Funny you mention that because Friday's video is on replacing the hood cable in this car. I wasn't aware of the relocation option. Interesting thought.
EricTheCarGuy here is an old link to the how-to (not that u need it) - www.team-integra.net/forum/blogs/vitamin_d/215-g3-hood-release-cable-relocation.html
Hey Eric long time watcher first time commenter. Do u ever sell any of the cars from your videos. I.e this integra. How much would it go for?
I have no intentions of selling this Integra. I waited 15 years to get it. I recently sold the Jeep I bough earlier this year to someone on Craig's List.
EricTheCarGuy snap, alright thanks for the reply. Enjoy that teggy!
That's jacked up. Should have showed us the headlight deal. That would have been a very good video for most of us cause there's so many crappy ones out there that don't work at all and give bad advice. Where yours would be good advice and done correctly
He has a lot of other videos where he restores headlights
There are 2 videos linked in the description I've done about headlight restoration.
It's REALLY easy to do right. Clean it. Wet sand with increasingly fine grit up to (start with 400, then do 600, then 2000), wipe it off with rubbing alcohol, then put 2-3 layers of Rust-Oleum clear gloss spray for plastic on, let it dry, reassemble. You can even do it right on the vehicle if you're lazy, just tape everything not headlight off with painters tape and trash bags.
Man i cry every time i see rust on a car as a southern man living in Chicago now even a car in as good of condition as this Integra is no match for the frozen tundra. Hell i used to bitch about just rusted out rotors then i moved up here and learned it could be so much worse when a good set of impact tools and a account with Zep became my best friends.
Do you really have to take the whole bumper off to change the license plate?
Hey Eric,
I was wondering if you have a video on replacing the starter motor assembly on a 8th gen Honda Civic (2007)
Acura's rule! hey I was thinking of Eric when I passed a 1994 Gold Acura Legend for sale near me.. looks to be in great shape.. 3k
too much money unless its perfect
If it's a '95 6 speed coupe I'm in.
OK, bonehead comment. I realize you said it was a '94. Sorry. Still, if it's a 6 speed coupe.
EricTheCarGuy I think there was no excuse for cars of the mid-90s to mid 2000s to NOT have 6 speeds. With increased need for mileage they should have been all over the place, but we didnt even get 5 speeds in a lot of models.
its a sedan.. not sure if its a manual .. guessing its an auto
That power tool is very handy.
Hello Eric do you have a video that repair the front license plate fasteners? If I can’t buy replacement for those 🙁
Dude you are awesome
Just watched the premium video, and I want to know where I can get an EricTheCarGuy license plate.
Check the description of the video.
yo EricTheCarGuy Jeremy Clarkson,Richard Hammon,James may has created a new show on amazon prime (the grand tour) its a new top gear
just letting you know
I'm already a tribe leader. facebook.com/drivetribe/
Can you tell me what that big white box is on the front right side behind the bumper? I don't have that on my 2000 Integra and wondering if I'm missing something. Thank you.
Did you ever find out what is was? I need help identifying it to replace it or see if I even need it.
@@dgomx95 Yes, it's the air resonator box. It is basically there to help with the air sound deadening. Most people with an aftermarket intake remove it. I have an extra one for sale. Let me know.
@@MBZS500 Ah ok, I was wondering cause I'm repairing some damages and that tank was broken along with my bumper and I couldn't identify it to save my life. With that being said I'll probably just remove it cause I have an aftermarket cold air intake. I appreciate the rapid response though!
Thank you very much 🇨🇺🇨🇦
Ha! I had that exact same problem with my license plate holder, hence the reason I had to remove my bumper as well.
What's the best way to repair headlights that gather moisture inside them? My Integra has that issue and it's especially bad whenever it rains. I've read here and there that some people just drill a hole in the bottom of the headlight, but before I whip-out the drill, are there any other alternative, less invasive methods?
peculiarmadman not really unless you buy new lights, a lot of people remove the headlights and bake them in an oven (not kidding) then remove the lens and put silicone around them and re seal them so they don't leak. You could just try putting silicone around the seal without taking them apart too
just out of curiosity, why didn't you just put the other two videos on you tube? I guess being a premium member helps you pay bills? Plus was the "impact" just your hammer or is that a special driver?
I'm not sure what other 2 videos you're referring to. Yes, the Premium Memberships help pay for my website. Adblockers make it difficult to make enough money to maintain my website so I came up with the Premium Membership program to help cover the cost. All tools used are linked in the description.
EricTheCarGuy I was referring to 4:38 you mentioned that repairing the front plate holder and restoring the headlight would be contained in a video on your website for the premium members.
Would love to be a premium member and help you out but My 97 f150 got t-boned last week so now I had to get a newer truck that set me to 10k. So now I'm keeping an eye on what I'm spending until I get the new to me truck paid off. Anyway the headlights on the truck are fogged out but I'll just refer to Chris fix's video.
I understand and I'm sorry to hear about your truck. I was actually referring to 1 video, not 2. Both the license plate repair and the headlight recondition are in the same video. Also, there are 2 videos in the description that I did on headlight restoration that are available on UA-cam. The hardest part of the license plate repair is removing the front bumper which was shown in this video. The PM video goes into the details of those repairs, but the information on how to perform them is available for free.
EricTheCarGuy ok I'll take a look at the video, the truck isn't that big of a deal, went from a 97 to an 07. Definitely a nicer truck but has a vibration at around 40mph, the dealership realigned and balanced the tires, it helped but it's still there, maybe a U joint? Otherwise love the truck!
Enjoy the videos, keep em coming!
similar to my opel corsa, 4 10mm up top, 2 T25 torx on each side, and 5 T25s undeerneath and clips
on the edge, also i never heard anyone call it a bumper skin just the bumper
premium members? leaving the little people behind :(
It's how I'm paying for all the free repair information available on EricTheCarGuy.com. Websites aren't free, and even harder to make profitable these days with ad blockers.
EricTheCarGuy actually I prefer only the UA-cam channel, why should I go to the website while everything available here?
Actually I think watching my videos on my website is a better experience as the metadata is laid out so much better. www.ericthecarguy.com/body-videos/1728-how-to-remove-a-1994-2001-integra-front-bumper-skin
Will a 1998 integra front bumper fit on a 2000 integra?
hey erick i kno this is off topic i was wondering if you could help me or at least tell me why my driver light flashes still i replace the shift solenoid nd it still flashes plz get back to me i drive honda civic ex coupe 1.7 automatic trans
How would you go about repairing the front plate holder?
Pulled a bumper off a 2012 Malibu the other day just to change a headlight. Wasn't that hard, but could have been designed better I think.
If you were just changing the bulb, you might see if theres access behind the inner fender lining. I'm seeing that more and more lately.
EricTheCarGuy that was the hope, but no. Solid metal behind the inner fender. Took an hour from start to finish. Stupid.
Indeed.
I say if your there, it's a pita to get to do do the other.
What kind of screws were used to hold the turn signal assembly?
thank you so much
When removing that black strip at 3:25 is there suppose to be a vin number beneath it on the bumper cover? I’ve heard that there is, but mine doesn’t have it.
Sir i have a question now that u show how to take out the bumper and work on the car i have a 1999 acura integra and the driver headlight when i turn the lights on is not bright like the passenger one and the bumper lights one work and the other one dont turn on if i turn high beams the hole side turns off and if i only turn the arm one time the bumper light bought work fine what can that be?
@00:19 I instinctively said thank you 👽
Amy suggestions on where to buy a new cover
Come on +EricTheCarGuy ... Say it right.. it's a GS-ARRR!
This is totally unrelated to the actual video. But since I just re-watched the fixing it forward sentra videos. I can't help but to anxiously wait for you to slip up and call the Integra type Rrrrrrr (insert pirate accent).
3:00 when you use that impact driver, do you twist it yourself when you hit, or does it have a mechanic that twist it?
The impacting motion twists it when it moves down, that's like the original impact
on rock auto they have a front bumper cover. is that this he keeps saying skin so im guessing?
Does the impact driver turn a small bit when you hit it with your hammer?
I have that same driver. if you noticed its not completely round like your normal inexpensive hardware store model. I have put a wrench on it on occasions so maximum impact or torque will go to shock the bolt or nut. your right some times in your hand it will give some depends on your grip.
Yes
Yes but I should let Eric awnser it his show guess I'm being rude.
+Jason Powell Hmm, how about that. Thanks for the reply :)
where do I find the screw like things that he soaked in penetrating oil .....mine are all stripped out😥
08 DTS is kind of the same but a little bit trickier.
That’s a lot and if it has fog lights?
when will we see more fairmont, eric?
Next week. And you'll have plenty of it. The engine series begins.
that's the spirit!
What sizes were you useing for all thst
thank you?
I'm going to remove my bumper for one reason only. To install some stucco mesh wire from hardware store behind the grill opening. Then it will match my carbon-fiber glovebox vinyl sticker. +55hp at the wheels yo.
JK
Stay gold.
Hey can i put a 2000 honda civic front end into a integra ??
…….premium membership 🤣 😂 😂
I know and completely understand with the UA-camrs Premium stuff and would get somewhat annoyed or wouldn't bother getting it but with ETCG I've been wanting to get premium for a while and now I have a job and probably will. Q1: How many premium videos and things have we missed?
Q2: If I wear glasses regularly should I wear those big goggles over them?
Anyone can answer these btw.
What size dewalt impact is that?
I had to remove the bolts at 2:43 and and 3:53 on both sides; all but one white clip was damaged, because of this.
Where did you buy the integra?
I've been searching on Craigslist and dealerships in Florida, I'm yet to find something so clean and stock.
Fairmont build????? or that never to be heard of again?
TRX VLOGGER maybe "premium " is the key to it!
***** I'm not paying for a Video.
hey , i know it has nothing to do with this video , but can you make a video of a 1998 honda accord 2.3L vtec on how to change the heads , it got water in the engine . looks like chocolate milk . can you help out please thanks man .
@ericthecarguy
@ericthecarguy
When you are doing jobs like this that have a bunch of fasteners, how do you remember where they all go when replacing them. I always find myself getting confused and putting thinks wherever they will fit hahahaha
I swapped out those pesky fasteners for 10mm bolts much easier to work with
could you not advertise your premium membership videos it makes us cheapskates feel like cheapskates. JK
I'll look into it. ;)
Wow looks almost the same as my civic did. Nice
The Civic and Integra are built on the same platform.
EricTheCarGuy
I see that, by my 2001 civic looks nothing like a Integra. Plus mines the slow crappy LX model. Cool how honda does that. Must save the dealer techs a lot of time and effort looking for tools and fasteners
The platform is the chassis the vehicle is built on, not it's outward appearance. Think of the chassis as the base they put different bodies on. The Civic and Integra may not look the same from above, but from underneath they do. To your second point, Hondas are very easy to work on compared to most other vehicles in my opinion. ua-cam.com/video/q1AZnb4ft1s/v-deo.html
Thanks what a breeze
where i come from we call turn signals indicators, and gas petrol because that's what it is called when its produce petrol
Not in 'Murica!
"Where you come from has not put a man on the moon. Checkmate." - Check 'Space 1999' we were on the moon alright and f*cked off with it! Checkmate in 1.
? dont wanna sound like a party pooper but really? All of you are asking for videos on how to take off the side skirts or rear bumper? Eric when did u start doing chessy easy videos. all bumpers are different and are all held on by diff bolts. like the tranny fuild change is something someone not gunna know off the top of there head so yea thats a good video. i have an integra and the front bumper was the easyest thing to come off the car. only problems i have to yet to fix is some honda rust on the rear quarters but only one side needs to be replaced and the cv axles that are in now are shot to shit(need a thick fork peace to pop the drivers out of thr half axle, tried prybars, people pulling on a breaker bar tied up with two tie downs around the back of the cup connect to the half axle and shit still wouldnt budge) includeing the suspension but thats just money i need to swap that out in due time.
what's with the short vids
Yup u just pointed at me🤣🤣
Funny how we can edit Integra videos, but still can't edit fairmont videos.
He's giving the fairmont videos a break. Gotta keep the videos interesting. Some would lose interest if it was only fairmont.
www.ericthecarguy.com/blog/1721-october-2016-newsletter
I have several #FairmontProject videos edited and uploaded. The thing about this month is that I have a lot of travel through the beginning of November. Basically, I'll be traveling almost every weekend which is when I do most of my editing. In order for me to cover that time off, I've had to edit and upload a months worth of videos to keep with my posting schedule. Truthfully, these videos were easier to edit than the #FairmontProject videos. So for the time being, I'm working through my stock of other videos, including this one, to carry me over while I do that. Next week I'll start into the #FairmontProject videos which will run for the foreseeable future. Lastly, it's not as though these videos don't contain useful repair information. They're not sponsored, and they're more like the videos I did before I started the #FairmontProject. I'd ask that you'd kindly be a little less critical.
ha u got r3kt
Oh lighten up.
You must have stock invested in penetrating oil, don't ya?
Don't lie now, we know the truth!!!! Haha!!!
No, but now that you mention it I wish I did.
All ETCG videos must contain penetrating oil and a pocket screw driver.
Haha, I'll work harder on suggesting certain things before I watch the video ok?
Oh hey, don't forget to tighten that control arm fastner over there ok?! Also, you may need more loctite; that other bottle is almost completely dried out!! lol!
For me??
Step one: acquire crowbar
Mouth, the third hand lol
will this fit my mg rover? looks kinda similar. jk
Integra GSRrrrrrrrrrrrr
please restore the headlights :/
I did in the PM video linked in the description. I've done several videos on headlight restoration already is the main reason I didn't include it. Those are also linked in the description.
oh nice :)
