I love everything about this movie. The dialog, the cinematography, the music, and especially the game it's about.
How can you not be romantic about baseball?

I think this is one of the best movies ever made. It brilliantly exposes how a team with one of the lowest payrolls in Major League Baseball could be a Championship contender and win 20 consecutive games because of mathematics and sabermetrics. Absolutely groundbreaking for sports!

Does anyone remember he already had the best starting staff and an MVP along with Dye and other good young players?! Enough with this idea

Michael McNaughton it’s funny you say that as he’s doing it again this year with Kris Davis and a bunch of no names

He had Miguel Tejada as well. He gambled on players that other teams passed on. His gamble paid off. That’s what should be remembered about the 2002 Oakland A’s.

Moneyball... Great way to win the division. Win the World Series? Not so much.
They did set the record for most consecutive wins though.

Horkslair not really, winning in the playoffs comes down to a lot of luck.

You can only do so much with the most affordable championship team.

that because in the end you can't rely on cheap players. is like inexperience vs experience. A's went on winning but can't bring world series. Right now 2018 season, they are hot and cheaper payroll but does not have a solid pitchers staff especially it's starter rotation. Can't depend on the bullpen deep in the playoffs

Even a 100-win baseball team only has a winning percentage of about 62%. Match them up against another good team and their odds are not much better than a coin flip. The baseball playoffs are a month-long series of coin flips. Superior teams lost in the playoffs all the time before Moneyball and they’ll keep losing long into the future.

LBJ's dream team of Ivy League egg-heads also tried fighting a war this way and we all know the end results.

James Robert what? Vietnam? Since when do war and baseball have anything in common besides America?

Just pointing out that number crunching works-only in certain circumstances. A thing such as baseball is ALL about numbers and averages and the system and formula was ingenious. However trying to fight and win a war through such a system is bound for failure as there are too many variables at play. LBJ's 'Dream Team' of scholars actually came up with an equation stating if they expended so many bullets, with x amount of actual hits, the equation stated the US would win.
