I have to pay to register my car every year, keep my license updated and that's not to mention what I had to go through to get the license originally. And that's a much-deserved annoyance because cars are expensive and dangerous, and we need to know who they belong to, and that the people using them are educated and trained enough to be safe using them.
I fully understand all the reasons one would want to have guns, for fun, for defense, for hunting, and I don't want to see any of that to be limited, but I don't see how a registry would undermine any of those things. And if we have to get licenses to hunt and fish and drive and sell food, why not have one for guns? I want people who own guns to be responsible with them.

Horses lost their jobs to vehicles. They didn't get new jobs and the horse population saw a decline. When humans lose their jobs to automation, most won't get new jobs and many will die.
The market can survive and prosper if we let unskilled humans die but we can't let humans die because humans are not docile. Humans will tear down the world on their way out before they learn to code. Populists demagogues will use the opportunity to gain political power and scapegoat the breadwinners of tomorrow.
Automation kills more jobs than it creates and it will intensify when the autonomous revolution goes parabolic. UBI buffers the instability while we transition into an autonomous world.
They claim unemployment is at record lows and yet the fed halts all rate hikes due to a weak economy. So which is it? Because it sounds like market corrections are coming and it's coming after human labor.

Liked your comment because I agreed with (a). There're a lot of instances where I don't watch a 30 - 40 minute video, not because the title & thumbnail don't look interesting, but just because I don't have the time. However, with regards to (b), have you actually tried to slow the playback speed & listen to it? On my end, the audio becomes not just a little "distorted", but it resulted in a bizarre doubling effect that made listening to it more-or-less impossible. Downloading and playing slower through VLC had similar issues.

They are not coming from an ideological standpoint that he has, rather he lets the math shape his policies. He's not a career politician, the same politicians from both the left and the right that have really been letting us down ever since Nixon, you can probably trace the death of the trustworthy and honest politician to the assassination of RFK in 68. Also you have to look at why the mainstream media has been largely ignoring him and belittling him from the very beginning, he's not prepared to sell his soul to the corrupt fake news media outlets, he is willing to side with the average people over them.

This all stems from the fact that innovation in non-computer related subjects (anything to do with atoms) is on the decline. If there were more rocket companies, for example, there would be more jobs in physical labor. Physical labor works well when there is not a well-defined process for creating a thing. The real problem is that innovation in atoms is regulated to hell.
If innovation in bits stops, like it's doing right now, then we will need massive re-training programs to transition people to program computers. A lot of people won't be physically capable of doing that, so there WILL need to be some sort of UBI or safety net.
The ONLY solution is to stop regulation in bits like allowing nuclear power plants to be built, relaxing safety standards, and disincentivize labor from moving to China.

It's no more virtuous to pander by offering other peoples' money for free than it is to pander by signalling virtue. The greatest counterargument to Yang's plan is -- "Why not $1,100?"
Because $1,000 is an arbitrary number. It just sounds nice, it's clean, it isn't calculated/optimized via complex economic models to find out the best balance for a UBI. It's simply a big, shocking number that makes you think "Oh shit, I could get that for free AND believe that it's for the good of the unemployed truckers, not just me being bribed for votes by money!"
Because even if you can calculate the exact, feasible amount for UBI, it doesn't matter; the other candidates on the left will simply jack it up a notch, or two, or twelve. There's already another democratic politician offering $600 (for political donations) with her proposed policy. They're catching on to "Oh wow, we can get votes by just promising the voters money." If Yang's UBI is ever implemented, all the catastrophic economic consequences aside, do you genuinely believe the next election won't become the battle of "which democratic candidate says they'll give you more money?" Which one is BOLD enough to ratched it up to $1,400, $1,500? Who's going to be the big name -- Harris? Yang again? -- who comes in and says, "Actually, those are child's numbers. We're going to *stick it to those rich old white men* by increasing UBI to $2,000!" It buys your vote and sells you a false sense of virtue.
There is no economic thought behind this. It's just as Benjamin Franklin said: "When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." All it is is a slippery slope of "rich people exist, vote for me and I''ll redistribute their wealth to you, economic consequences be damned!" It'll be ruinous on the American economy -- but even if it weren't, even if it somehow stabilized, all it'd have achieved is making every citizen completely dependent on the government. Enshackling us.

Yang has definitely gained my respect.
Any Democrat that is confident enough in his policy to do an hour-long interview with Ben Shapiro deserves some recognition.
I know that in this space, some of his ideas surrounding social improvement and weapon control may get some pushback. But on the whole, I see his ideas as being well thought out and operating in the best interest of the majority of Americans.

He won't win in 2020. This I can say with near certainty. He's intelligent enough and aware of the issues facing Americans that he has attracted some positive attention from libertarians and conservatives, but he is running as a Democrat, which means he has to embrace a bunch of crazy positions as well, even if he doesn't necessarily believe in them. Even if he doesn't personally buy the intersectional nonsense, he still has to bow at the social justice altar to some extent, or the establishment media will eviscerate him. Because of this, he's sort of in an impossible position, because endorsing crazy policies and embracing social justice garbage is the only way he can survive the Democratic primaries, but it's simultaneously going to repel most of the potential conservative/libertarian support he could hope to accrue. In the end, I just don't think he's intersectional enough for the establishment Left. If he gets close, they'll likely screw him over the way they did Bernie.
Which is sad. I don't agree with everything he says, but he clearly understands the issues that are really plaguing younger Americans, which is more than I can say for pretty much any other Democrat.
As for him winning in 2024, who knows. The Democrats are likely going to crash and burn in 2020, so by 2024 they could have reformed and become a party someone like Yang could actually run in again. Or if they still aren't, he could maybe run as a more moderate Republican.

The Obesity crisis, opioid epidemic and some of the suicide issues can all be fixed if the Average American had a better relationship with food and did some weight training.
Even car accidents can be fixed by having people just be a bit more disciplined. Like knowing when you're too drink to drive, not drinking to the point of drunkenness, not driving while tired. Those three almost completely eliminate car accidents, which will result in cheaper insurance premiums.
Reducing obesity will address almost all issues within the healthcare industry and insurance as well.
People maintaining their fitness and not putting on weight in age will result in less injuries meaning less people taking painkillers, meaning less opioid addictions.
Plus physical health results in less suicide for multiple reasons. The US has a self-discipline issue more than anything else.

All the advocates are pointing to the current plight of lower middle class, while ignoring the fact that there is a blue-collar labor shortage in the US right now.
