  • As David was escaping from Jerusalem east toward the Jordan River, his son Absalom entered the city with the forces that had rallied to his cause. David was vulnerable and had Absalom taken the sound advice of Ahithophel, David's trusted counselor, turned traitor, it would probably have spelled doom for the exiled king. But in God's providence, another of David's trust advisors, Hushai, persuaded Absalom to wait, and by so doing Absalom paved the way to his own eventual destruction.
