Wow what an informative video thank you very much. I am going to be an electronics tech student so I will be watching all of your videos

You are demodulating the FM by means of a technique called "Slope Detection", which effectively converts the FM to AM.

    Another well done video,,Thanks.
My 8566B has had a problem where it blows a fuse one of the 5 volts rails. I swapped the few once but it's down again. From some reading on the web it seems that the tantalum caps can have a high ESR over time and contribute to excess I draw.
I will start in a few weeks, checking for tantalums out of spec or with high ESR and swap them out.
Have you had any issues with your unit yet? Not sure if I'll use tantalums or some of the newer high value electrolytics if I have room.
Looking forward to getting the 8566B back on line soon.
Again thanks for the informative videos.

+wa4aos Thanks! I guess I am lucky, my HP8566B hasn't had any problems. Those tantalum caps are time bombs however.

I had to change out a couple of big filter caps in mine a few years ago. You can tell if one of those has gone bad by unsoldering it and put its leads across a power supply with a big current meter. If it's gone bad, there will be no inrush current (it won't charge).

HI. Great info. However im confused as to where you are taking the output for the audio amp from (I think you say the video out but my hearing is not great). My Anritsu MS610C does not have a 'video' labelled output, but X, Y and Z outputs? Can you advise? Thanks

That's correct, it is the video output. It should be your Y output. X is equivalent to horizontal sweep, Y corresponds to video and Z is usually designated as pen-lift.

What chip are you using for your amplifier?

Would like to know how to measure FM distortion with the spectrum analyzer. Nice Video!

Great video. When he is talking about upper band and lower band in fm, he is referring to the stereo effect. FM radio has two channels to transmit a left and a right. Hope this makes this video a bit clearer.

That's not really the case ..... stereo is encoded in the signal using pilot tone and mixing with 38 Khz

or i can just use my 20 dollar RTL dongle and demodulate any signal
